Home of samba, Brazil’s 2nd largest city is sassy, seductive and spectacular. The Rio Carnival is legendary the world over for outrageous costumes and infectious rhythms.
Host of the 2014 World Cup final in Maracanã stadium and the 2016 Olympics and Paralympics, Rio de Janeiro is forward-thinking. High rises line Ipanema beach and you can find dozens of rollerbladers on the promenades at any time.
The hottest spot is Copabacana, a great place to try biscoito globo, a typical Rio beach snack. Sip a caipirinha here while the sun sets over the bay and mountains – it's unforgettable, but the fun doesn't end there. Clubbing in Rio is fantastic and ranges from techno to traditional bossa nova. Bohemian beats can be found in Santa Teresa and Lapa, where trams pass over a double-arched viaduct.
Overlooking all this from Corcovado mountain is iconic Christ the Redeemer, welcoming the world to Rio with arms outstretched. Take a cable car up to this statue on the edge of lush Tijuca Park for incredible views. Accessed by cable car, Sugar Loaf Mountain is also not to be missed.
Rio de Janeiro Airport is well linked to the ‘ Marvelous City’, but traffic can be manic, so leave enough time to reach it from your Rio hotel, apartment or hostel booked through Booking.com.

Rio de Janeiro is a beautiful city, full of life , plenty of nice restaurants an beaches. Is easy to move around as there are taxis services everywhere. Most of people in Rio are friendly and ready to help. Still a bit dangerous, so be careful with your belongings as mobile phones, jewellery etc... depending on the place like shopping centres there are lot of security, but not everywhere.
For the rest is an amazing place to spend your holidays ;-)

Rio is a great place to study for example at the PUC University in Ipanema or at the UFF in Niteroi. Perfect place to practice sports and meet friendly people! Highly recommend to explore Rio by bike, also surfing in Ipanema is great, not to forget paragliding and sailing. Would love to play football or volleyball at the beach with locals next time and visit the Museum of Modern Art. You might enjoy the pubs, salsa bars and live music in Santa Teresa and Lapa - I have joined a group, felt safe and comfortable. Beautiful beaches and exotic nature.

We arrived for final night at the Sambadrome, with about 70,000 people, and it was so amazing and wonderful! We felt safe the whole 2-1/2 weeks in Rio and also when we flew north to Salvador. We loved Rio. Cariocas are friendly and they like to have a good time. We liked the beaches, the scenery, the food, the prices (coming from the very expensive American northeast) and the pace!

The most beautiful city with the best swcenery. Anywhere you go, you see the beach, the Sugar Bush and Christo. I loved being there and wish i had more time to stay for another week. It is vibrant and full of life. We had a brunch at Copacabana Palace! first class :)

Rio is just amazing.
Rio is just amazing. Taking usual travelers' precautions, with an extra care on where your belongings are when you're walking in crowds, then you're safe. Food is great and people are lovely. Recommended to learn basic portuguese or even a bit of spanish before you go, so you can have a more pleasant experience. Sort out your roaming or phone before you go there (e-sims are life-saving but make sure your phone is compatible). Jesus is incredible as expected, and recommended to visit as early in the day as possible. I'm going again for sure.

I was extremley dissapointed with Rio
It felt like I was travelling back to a Soviet era grey communist era city.
Dull stained concrete buildings
No modern infrastructure
Very few modern buildings
- Large, comfy bed
- Lovely view from rooftop of the endless beach. Great to swim in the rooftop pool
- Good location 2 mins walk away from the beach and under 10 mins walk from a number of good and lively restaurants. (Obviously is in Barra da Tijuca so far away from major tourist hotspots like Ipanema, Copacabana, Santa Teresa, Centro, Lapa)
- Friendly and helpful reception staff who spoke fluent English
- 17 floors but lots of modern lifts meant you weren't waiting ages
- V clean
- Midday checkout always a bonus!
The hotel is located right in the center of Copacabana, it’s very easy to walk everywhere. You are 3 blocks away from the beach, 10 minutes walk from the Metro and 2 minutes away from any restaurant or bakery. The staff was very nice, and helpful! The breakfast was very good and had many options.
The room itself was a bit noisy because of the traffic (we were towards the street in the 6th floor). The mattress was ok, and you have enough facilities with the room for travelers.
Gerthrudes is an amazing hidden gem in Santa Teresa. The hotel itself is beautifully decorated with a mixture of tropical minimalism and old school grandeur. The views over Rio de Janeiro are unrivalled and it's just a short walk from neighbourhood restaurants, bars and a cute coffee shop. The breakfast is delicious, and served in the conservatory, overlooking the city bathed by the morning sun. I will definitely be returning!
The hotel is absolutely stunning. We have stayed at other hotels along Copacabana but the Palace is the one to stay at. To their attentive concierge to the friendly staff, this gem of a hotel is the place to stay! We had a bit of a situation with our flights and we were able to come back to our room to use it before our next flight out. Everyone is so friendly and nice, the breakfast is phenomenal and pool is incredible.
The location of this hotel is excellent, a block away from the Fairmont. Just steps from Copacabana beach and a quick uber ride from major destinations. Ipanema is a longer walk but posto 7 is a short 10-15 min walk. The room facilities are amazing and they offer usb charging a big desk, and spacious restroom. The value for the money is exceptional, and I have no regrets. Do not pay attention to the bad reviews.
Location of the hotel is excellent with a great view of the Copacabana. Many taxis are available in the area. Breakfast was not amazing but not bad. Room was clean but quite dated (especially the bathroom). Overall, nothing really to complain about and we enjoyed our stay there but it does have a bit of a run-down feel to it compared to other Hiltons around the world. Staff are all very friendly and helpful.
The Hotel is located right opposite the copacabana beach and from our balcony we were able to see both the beach as well as Christ the Redeemer which I think was awesome. The breakfast was scrumptious and fulfilling with assorted fruits and pastries. The service of the staff especially at the the breakfast table was exceptional! Overall it was a great experience at PortoBay.
The staff were very helpful and friendly - a special thank you to Elaine for helping us book Churrascaria Palace. The hotel itself is in a great location - handy for Copacabana and Ipanema. The views each morning looking out over the beach were amazing. The breakfast was also very good for a buffet. The upstairs bar also has great views in the evening.
The Copacabana Palace is a landmark in Rio de Janeiro, so it is always a special experience to stay there. Besides that, they've managed to have the best staff ever, so gentle and attentive, they make your stay even more special. It is wort every dime payed. The restaurants are an attraction apart, all are just superb. Unforgettable.
One of my favorite hotels in Copacabana, when the price allows I always try to book here. The renovated rooms are very stylish and the old ones still have a jacuzzi installed if you're lucky.
Very friendly and helpful staff and cozy little rooftop pool.
The hotel is in a perfect location. The hotel is a nice hotel unfortunately the room that I got had no view and was a very small room for the cost of the night. on the plus side it’s in a nice area and Copacabana and it is walking distance to Ipanema
It's right next to Copacabana Beach. The breakfast provided us with a great variety of choices and selections. There are facilities for those who would like to stay in the hotel in a rainy day. The staff is efficient and quick to respond.
The rooftop with a view of Copacabana beach is everything. Our stay at the hotel was perfect in every sense. The staff was accommodating and kind. I highly recommend everyone to experience their hospitality; you won't regret it. Thanks :)
Great hotel and location within steps of Ipanema beach and Copacabana Beach is right around the corner. Good food and drinks at the pool top bar and a wonderful breakfast buffet to get you going for the day.
They have a nice pool area and this hotel is really made for families with kids. The location is really good between Ipanema and Copacabana. They also have a laundry service at the hotel which is rare.
It's a scam, there is no apartment available. be careful!!! tis address is for Copacabana Palace Hotel, not the apartment, and you can't cancel the booking, I'm waiting for Booking now.
Location of the hotel just next to Aproador in Ipanema is great. Very easy to then walk to Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblon. Good breakfast and staff was very kind.
Owner is a very nice person, very kind, open and helpful. Hotel is very close to Copacabana and Ipanema beach and very close to the bus and metro station.
