Northern Brazilian Lush Beach Resort
The Brazilian city of Maceió is surrounded by lush vegetation, tranquil and crystalline waters, coral banks, and white sandy beaches adorned with coconut trees. Capital of the Alagoas state, it owes its name to the word the natives used to call the natural springs that form lagoons in the area. It is today one of the most popular beach resorts in northern Brazil.
Founded in the 19th century around sugar mills and sugar plantations, it became an important trading port for primary products. It was officially recognised as a village in 1815, and it was declared state capital of Alagoas in 1839.
The coastal areas of the city are packed with services for tourists, like hotels, shops, restaurants, nightclubs and cafés. Some of the best Maceió accommodation, including apartments and 5-star beach resorts are located here.
The June Festival is one of the most important celebrations in the northern Brazilian regions. Great beaches. Wonderful weather considering it was winter. Hangs restaurant and Bodega do Seratou were great restaurants. Park and food trucks were good for the children. Low tide allowed us to walk to reef. Children enjoyed their first snorkelling experience. Hired a car and drove to beaches north and south. Praia São Frances was great a low tide. Saw plenty of species of tropical fish at Praia Paripueira. Not from from Parque shopping centre for movies.
