FAQs about hotels in Cairo

Resting Place of Pharaohs

Born of an ancient civilization, Cairo is a vast metropolis centered around the Nile. Its sheer scale can feel overwhelming (especially when flying over Cairo Airport), so plan ahead. An obvious starting point are the Giza Pyramids. Although the pharaohs are long gone, the grandeur of their burial pyramids, the Sphinx and Solar Boat are testament to their ambition.

The city’s Egyptian Museum houses a dazzling display of ancient Egyptian artifacts, including finds from Tutankhamen's tomb in Luxor. Around the corner is Tahrir, a huge square and focal point of the 2011 Egyptian Revolution.

East is Islamic Cairo, home to the 9th-century Ibn Tulun Mosque, Al-Azhar Mosque (site of the world’s oldest university), and the Khan el-Khalili souk (remember to haggle). The Citadel, with its elegant Mohammed Ali Pasha Mosque, sits on a hill offering far-reaching city views.

If you need a break from cultural tours, take a Nile cruise by felucca, spot wildlife in Wadi Digla desert park or visit Egypt’s top theme parks: Dream Park and Magic Land, where you can tour Egyptian TV studios.

Before heading to your Cairo accommodations, sample the local cuisine – the falafel and fuul (bean paste) are delicious. Coffee is a staple and there are hundreds of shisha bars, while major Cairo hotels have bars serving alcohol.

Cairo is one of the best cities I have ever seen.

Cairo is one of the best cities I have ever seen. It is characterized by the historical attractions that takes you back in time and keeps you wondering. I was surprised by the fast progression that the country has reached . Its is easy to get around by public transport especially by metro . I recommend Sobhi kaber restaurant in Shubra if you want to try Egyptian traditional cooking as well as Villa Caracas, Maadi for middle eastern food . I stayed at 3 hotels , Triumph Eileen and Cleopatra Tahrir they were all great. Visiting The Pyramids, musiums , walking around down town cairo and trying Nile short cruise can be the for solo traveller .

There are so many places to visit, I went to the Old Cairo Musuem and walked from the hostel to Al Azhar park (40LE entrance fee) passing lots of markets and shops, sadly due to Ramadam, finding a place to eat during the day was difficult and if a place was open, the menu was restricted to a few items. It is currently safe and locals are pleasant, some beggars on the streets, you dont have to give money, because if you start you will not stop-but 1-2LE was what the locals were given to some beggars. Uber to the pyramids was 300LE, you dont need a guide, read up on what you will see before hand.

Cairo' s history is amazing, unfortunately the tourist areas are poorly managed and dirty. Most locals are desperate to make a quick buck off tourists. Taxis overcharge, rather use UBER - price difference is literally 10 times less !

Overcrowded city, crazy traffic and driving habits of locals,...

Overcrowded city, crazy traffic and driving habits of locals, very young children sitting right beside roads with busy traffic. Many dogs and cats walking around, but all friendly. Streets are dirty, seems never cleaned, I have seen police patrol cleaning their car and chucking rubbish from boot on the street. Constant beeping on the main streets. This is first impression and shock. But in few hours all this you wouldn't notice because will get used to it. Good friendly people, some beggars approach, but it is their job, ignore and go your way.I was scared to go anywhere with my kids at the start, but when I walked, all was good and safe.In Europe in some cities you wouldn't be able to walk normally. Here nobody tried to steal something or frightening with any weapon, nobody tried to attack or anything like that.Everything was safe , nice and cultured. We tried koshery(we all enjoyed), stuffed pigeon (very little something to eat, probably breast only), grilled quail, was good and delicious.Uber taxi is very good way to travel around city.we stayed only for one day so can't say more then I already have said. Don't be scared to go to Cairo,it is different to what we(my family) get used to,but it is great experience and adventure anyway and most importantly it's safe

Just opened two weeks ago. Completely new renovated 5 star hotel. Magnificent view of the pyramids from our room. Reception : the staff at the reception was very helpful , very kind . Great thanks to the Director of food and beverage: the breakfast is of high quality products. The staff was very attentive and the Director was asking our feedback. Location: you are in king Faisal street facing the pyramids : 6 km of shops, restaurants opened till after midnight , banks, etc Conclusion: we were very happy to discover this hotel.

Simple and uncomplicated guest house walking distance away from a wonder of the world. They allow early check in if you communicate with them and will also arrange a taxi from Cairo Airport at an extra cost. Rooms are small but clean, private bathroom, but don't expect 5 star hotel standards. Host is helpful and there is a museum and gift shop downstairs. Breakfast is served on the balcony from which you can look at the pyramids - that view is a winner, despite the poor state of adjacent buildings and the squalor of the area.

Overall the location was great right next to the airport and it was clean but what really made me leave with a sour note is that some of the staff after helping carry the bags to standing waiting for a tip. And when you give them Egyptian pounds the face that they give you as if they were expecting Dollars and not even saying thank you. Just standing there looking at the tip and looking at you. Its not befitting of a 5 star hotel to have this kind of culture. Because of this i’m not going back there again. Absolute disgrace.

The location is perfect and close to the pyramid, room view is perfect you can see pyramid straight through your room balcony. What’a even better the staffs! Thanks to Omar and Shima, they helped us a lot! We arrived very late and looked for food to eat, Omar took us to a restaurant, without his help we would be hungry all night. The next day Shima is on her duty, she also showed her hospitality and help us a lot! They are the best people I met in Egypt and I would definitely recommend Kemet boutique hotel.

The staff is definitely the best part of staying in the Atlantis Pyramids Inn. They were all very friendly, helpful and attentive. The terrace with views of the pyramids is downright breathtaking. It doesn't matter if you're there for breakfast and tea, water or dinner with a nice Egyptian lager, at sunrise or during the night, the view never disappoints. The room is small but tidy and clean, and so is the bathroom. They arranged taxis from and to the airport for a fair price.

My time at the hotel was really good. The service was excellent, and Marwan, a guy who works there, was super helpful. He made me feel safe in a new country and gave me good advice about avoiding tricky situations in Egypt. Whenever I needed something, he was quick to help. They cleaned my room every day, paying attention to small details. The water there was the best I’ve had in Egypt. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. Thanks for a fantastic experience!
