Machu Picchu was completely abandoned for nearly 400 years.
Machu Picchu was completely abandoned for nearly 400 years. There are no know written records of who built it, what it was used for or the part it played in Inca history. The guides are totally speculative. They have good stories..... but completely from their imagination. Do your homework and prepare for the visit.

It might seem almost heretical to not give MP top marks and to admit I planned too much time there, but it is really only the sanctuary that is worth the visit (for me). Had I been up to the mountain climb then another day would have been worth it. It is probably best to arrive the night before, get up early to visit in the morning, then leave after lunch.
Overall, I may have been slightly underwhelmed as it was a rubbish day, overcast and a bit drizzly so the views were less than ideal. Also even taking the bus up to the sanctuary there is still al lot of climbing and at that altitude...!
The front staff were very nice and the triple room had huge windows to riverside. Breakfast was great with eggs, bread, ham, cheese, avocado and plenty of fruits to get you full enough to start a day. They also let us check out late as our train was in the evening. Nice extra time to shower and relax after coming back from Machu Picchu. A bit more expensive compared to other hotels in the area but we would stay here again.
Check in was super smooth, thorough and very friendly. Cheaper accommodation often skips on the extras but Machu Picchu Land didn't. There were extra pillows, extra blankets, a bath mat, a fan , a heater, huge TV with Netflix.and free tea. We liked the location as it was far away from haggling touts. Three bridges cross the river that divide Aguas Calientes in two. This accommodation is near bridge three.
Omg. I don’t know where to start. This is such an adorable little hotel. With all the amenities of a huge chain. I travel fir business. And I have stayed in hotels all over the world. I didn’t know what to expect but I have to say. For my next time here in Aguas Calientes there is no other place where we will be staying. Thanks for giving us such a pleasant comfortable stay.
We stayed 3 days in aguas calientes town, it was a family trip. The host was kindly, he helped us with all our questions about trips and good restaurants near the hotel. Futhermore, the rooms were clean and very comfortable. The location is excellent, it's 6 min from train station on feet. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Machu Picchu.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. Someone met us at the train station to guide us to the hotel. We were able to leave our backpacks at the hotel while we explored Machu Picchu. Location was great, next to the river and away from the noise of the trains and main square, yet within easy walking of everything.
The hotel was within walking distance to the train station and they kindly kept our luggage until we could check into our room. Our room overlooked the fast flowing river which was amazing . The breakfast was great and the room overlooked the river as well. Staff were very friendly and helpful!
We were pick up from the station in Aguas Calientes as it is a little maze. The gentleman in the hotel was very nice, kind and caring. The breakfast was home made.
The place is very quiet and the bed comfy, exactly what you need for a night after visiting Machu Picchu.
They came to the train station to help with our luggage and our return trip. The breakfast was good. Be ready to climb stairs in the town and the hotel. The owner and staff were so nice and helpful. They helped us find a guide for Machu Picchu who did an excellent job
The staff are very helpful and go as far as going to pick you up from the train station. They are very communicative and go out of their way to help you ease into your stay.
The hotel is very central to restaurants and the bus to Machu Picchu.
location of the property is really convenient to take train or to take a bus.
lots of restaurants are around. staff is polite snd helpful.
Room with the mountain view is impeccable. breakfast is good too. overall best hotel in aguas calientes.
The staff was really friendly and the buffet breakfast was good. For a budget hotel, it was a good choice. They also stored our bags once we checked out. It has an amazing view on the top terrace!
It was close to the city and in a good place to start Machu Picchu Hike.
We got little lunch paket instead early breakfast, but you get these in other hotels as well
It is cheap
We were met at the train and accompanied on foot to the hotel. We were in the central area of Aguas Calientes, could walk everywhere. The bed was very comfortable.
Everything is adapted to the traveler’s needs to finish Machu Picchu hiking trip. I really appreciate the flexibility and convenience this hotel provided.
