Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomBecause of its Grade listing there are no elevators/lifts, so please be ready to ascend the stairs with suitcases. Needed more for breakfast for the £12 per person and certainly not another £7.50 for the eggs and bacon. Only drawback to the whole week.
Perfect location away from the centre of Edinburgh, but within walking distance and near to trams for the West End and Haymarket. Staff very friendly and approachable; sorted out our issue with the bed immediately and without attitude (which we see alot of these days). Very eclectic decor and ornaments which lent an air of attention to detail you very rarely see in the hotel chains. Room 2 was a suite and at the back, very quiet and we did not hear any traffic. Built-in wardrobes perfect to hide away clothes and suitcases, and the bathroom had an opulent, but modern feel. As it was my wife's significant birthday the hotel kindly accommodated the bouquet of flowers ordered from a local florist.

United KingdomNo tea and coffee making facilities in the room, which in itself is not a problem as you can call reception and they will bring a fresh cup within minutes. however, when reception is closed there is a coffee machine on the landing right outside room 1’s door - convenient but not very quiet when your neighbours are making drinks at 7am on a Sunday morning.
The room (room 1) was large and comfortable, as was the bed. The location was great and an easy walk into the city centre. Dinner in the restaurant was exceptional.

United KingdomDrawing room maybe had too much furniture. All large pieces because of room size but perhaps too much of it (all elegant tho)
Great living spaces. Huge bathroom and bath. The bed was extremely large and extremely comfortable. Outlook from bedroom window was beautiful, all trees which is amazing for a city centre hotel. Decor was mostly traditional but also eclectic and very tasteful. With easy walking distance of town, close to Playhouse.

United KingdomBreakfast was not great. The stairs up to the rooms were a challenge particularly when carrying one's luggage . A porter would be an advantage
Breakfast was very ordinary, not much choice or variation, considering this is a fine dining destination. Room and on suite bathroom were spacious and well appointed. A plus factor was the quiet location close to the old city centre.

United KingdomIf I had one bit of feedback it would be perhaps get some better glazing or if that is not possible due to regulations on older buildings, perhaps secondary glazing for the windows of the room(s) at the front as although the road is not excessively busy, noise did travel. I am quite a light sleeper and I forgot to take earplugs but to be fair on the first night the bed was so seductive that I never woke up fully by any noise, I was so comfortable I just went back to sleep quickly. If you sleep like a log then you'll absolutely love it. (If there are rooms at the back I should imagine they are wonderfully peaceful.) I would not let this point stop me from staying again, I'd just try hard to remember my earplugs or go out and buy some! Everything else completely makes up for it. Do not let this put you off.
Good location - walking distance from railway station (not flat) if you're able to or a short trip in a taxi otherwise. Literally next door to Calton Hill and the monuments and a fantastic view on clear day. Round the corner from cafes, pubs, Theatre Royal, cinema and many other things. Easy to get to Princes Street etc. We walked everywhere but I saw many buses going close by the end of the road too when going to & from the hotel. I asked when booking if I could have a room with a bath and although this was not guaranteed I wasn't disappointed. The bathroom was huge with a walk in shower and the most beautiful stand alone bath as well. We stayed for 2 nights and I had a lovely hot bubble bath on each night which is a real treat for me and made the break extra special. There were lovely large white towels, luxurious face cloths and white bathrobes available too (also new slippers in wardrobe too though I didn't use any). The bed was massive and unbelievably comfortable, I didn't really want to get out of it! We had breakfast one morning which was served in an extremely graceful room. If you are planning on having breakfast at the hotel and have any dietary requirements do let them know in advance as they will assist! The first morning we did eat at a lovely café around the corner which had vegetarian and vegan options too. There is a large lounge area you can relax in at the hotel if you want to read or just have some quiet time. Room and bathroom were utterly spotless. View from the room was lovely. There were no hot drinks facilities in the room (there was fresh mineral water daily) but a Nespresso machine was literally 2 steps outside the room with plenty of options available. Fabulous Bluetooth speaker to connect the TV or your phone to as well to enjoy some radio or Spotify if you wished. The staff were all very friendly and very helpful. We didn't need much by way of assistance but when we did they were there.

United KingdomThere really wasn’t anything we didn’t like.
We stayed here for a couple of days, had a really friendly greeting when we arrived, our host was excellent and all of the staff were of the same standard. Our room was stunning with an amazing view and an extremely comfortable bed. We went to the drawing room in the evenings for drinks before going out which was beautiful! It was very comfy with excellent service. As a beautiful old town house, there are lots of steps so be aware of this when booking but we would fully recommend staying there on absolutely every level!

United KingdomThat there was no tea trays and kettle in the room. Or small fridge. All would be a huge plus. I prefer to use my own teabags, sugar and milk so that was a disappointment to me, but the only downside to my stay. Another customer complained too, so think these should be considered
