This stay was purely for transfer to the airport the next day, so just needed a bed for the night and a taxi to the airport the following day
However I have stayed in Kalamata many times before, and it is a wonderful city for a short break, with a great choice of lively cafes and eateries on the seafront.
The traffic is lighter along the seafront than in most Greek cities; Kalamata feels safe to walk around at night and in the daytime there are some interesting historic areas and museums to visit.

Kalamata is a fantastic place but it does take a while to become familiar with it. We've been on many occasions and we prefer to take the bus in (from Stoupa) because we find driving in Kalamata quite stressful. This is not because of the Greek drivers who are very courteous but more because we are not too familiar with the roads.
Our favourite place to visit is the market, which is on Saturdays and Wednesdays and it is fantastic. The quality, selection and price (and especially the price) are fantastic. The bus station is just across the road from the market so not far to walk.

Kalamata is a great small city in the Peloponnes, which caters for every interest. It has a some historical places, a beautiful old town with tradtional shops, an amazing coast with beaches, super clean water, very good and afordable restaurants and bars and a great ambiance. A city which you can explore easily by foot.
Further it can be used as a base for some of the most interesting places to visit in the Peloponnes like Mani, Mystras, Koroni, ancient Messene, the Apollon Temple and a lot more.

What an absolutely amazing growing metropolis!
What an absolutely amazing growing metropolis! Safe, secure, welcoming, fashion oriented, health conscious residents and simply a pleasure being around.
Simply attending a town square on any given night will be demonstration enough to illustrate the hospitable welcoming people of Kalamata with children of all ages playing with each-other, (no phones included, LOL), laughing, talking as kids should!
Everyone is not only healthy, but fit. It was astonishing that we struggled with my wife to find any unfit person in hundreds of people, especially the kids in town!
Bravo Kalamata... you are doing things right!
By far the best location in Kalamata in terms of hotels.
There is no noise from the busy streets, they have a direct access to the beach and absolutely beautiful garden. Perfect for finding some peace, at least after the peak season. Minimalistic continental decor of the rooms supports relaxing mood. Those who appreciate modern design may say things are slightly outdated in Filoxenia, but for me that was an advantage. Simplicity is the key. You can’t beat falling asleep with the sound of the waves, palm trees and crickets.
The Kalamata Art Hotel is a very clean and comfortable modern hotel located very conveniently on Vasileos Giorgiou Square in the commercial centre of Kalamata. The hotel is adjacent to many excellent restaurants and coffee shops and located just a short walk from many retail shops and stores. Easy (and cheap) parking is conveniently located just a hundred metres away. Checking in was very easy and the staff were most helpful and friendly, providing very useful advice and assistance whenever required.
Very nice hotel in the outskirts of Kalamata (it is located in Verga beach, which is approximately 7km from Kalamata). The breakfast was very good with both savory and sweet food. The hotel provides a parking for its customers and also there is a little beach downhill, where the customers can seat and relax.
Regarding our room, we booked a twin room with one bed. It was comfortable and it had a balcony. Finally, the room service was what you'd expect by a hotel of these standards.
The hotel is located in a strategic position on the road from Kalamata to Southern Mani. The room was basic but equipped with a fan on the ceiling, basic toiletries and balcony. It is easily reachable by car from the airport and a good base for people who land in the evening and do not want to take Winding mounting roads late at night. Breakfast is available at €5 per person per night but we did not have it as there is a bakery nearby.
Very clean, spacious and well equipped room with good size bed. Hotel is comfortable and right on the beach. The rooms with the sea view are the best. The breakfast at the hotel is brilliant. Also the Hotel is a walking distance to the restaurants and you get there within 15-20 minutes walking by the sea. I recommend Horizon Blu Boutique Hotel resort with love!
Aside from the unforgetable views, the beautiful stay and location that was close to local beach's, restaurants and attractions, the hosts and essentailly Dimitri were lovely and
very accomondating and attended to very need. We loved our daily chat's with Yiayia who we will miss dearly. Petra Thea has been a highlight of our holiday to Greece !
The owner is very hospitable and kind. Thank you so much for being friendly and welcoming! The hotel is right on the beach and you can go for a swim very easily. Walkable to a bus stop. There is also a small cat named Stella that was very cute. The owner goes out of his way to make you feel welcome and it shows.
Breakfast was heaven! Very special that you could order breakfast instead of buffet. We have known the previous owner and stayed in Hotel Amerika many times. It was beautiful to see how beautiful this hotel is build up again after the earthquake.
Amazing breakfast! A hotel full of happy surprises!! the location was excellent the staff was really friendly helpful and willing to fulfill all our needs!! would come back to Kalamata just to stay at this beautiful and historical hotel!!!
Very helpful staff, amazing breakfast area on 5th floor, overlooking Kalamata beaches and mountains. Very good breakfast.Large bedroom. Tip: reserve a hotel parking spot ahead of time as it can take time to park outside the hotel.
Love the stay, clean, bright and good room. Nice location, easy to park and use a car, to explore this part of Greece. The host was so nice, and helpful. Recommended us, great places to eat and it was easy to accommodate.
The staff went beyond expectations to meet our needs during our stay. We checked out early and the staff prepared us a to-go/take away breakfast. I highly recomend you stay here during your time in Kalamata.
Lovely boutique hotel in a quiet part of Kalamata near the port. Very beautiful room, large common garden courtyard and great breakfasts. The host is very kind, helpful and accommodating.
Amazing refurbished hotel in the center of Kalamta, with parking. So much thought was put into details and amenities. Great breakfast, including espresso, capuchino fresh fruit.
Really good covid precautions in place. Breakfast was good and staff were very friendly. Location is great with good sea views. Hotel sunbeds available on the beach for guests.
Modern, spacious apartment. Great for relaxing a bit after travelling through Greece visiting archeological sites. Walking distance to the beach and restaurants.
