Canto do Ile was the highlight of our trip to Brasil. The property is absolutely beautiful, and the way it's set up brings everyone together in the dining room to make it feel like a home. Everyone who worked there treated us like friends that they have known forever -- Lisa, Sergio, Fabiano, Emilia, Daniel, Leonardo, Maruscka and Rafael were so warm and had such excellent recommendations for us. We loved our diving experience with Sergio and Emilia's cakes and cookies were incredible. The historic center is a must-see town with amazing food and views, and the short bike ride into town was a great way to see more of Paraty.

Paraty is surrounded by emerald green forests attached to mountains that plummet directly into turquoise waters or white-sand beaches. The cobblestone streets and colonial houses of the city centre pay homage to its Portuguese roots, and accessible islands and secluded beaches lure the sun-seeking crowds.
White buildings decorated with colourful door arches and window surrounds line the small lanes of the historic old town. The 17th-century First Church of Our Lady of the Remedies watches over the shaded eastern meeting point of Matriz Square.
North of the canal are Pontal and Jabaquara beaches that are split by the Perpetual Defender fortress, built by the British in the 18th century. Hiring a boat will take you out to more remote islands like diving hot spot Ilha dos Meros or unspoilt Paraty-Mirim Beach, south of the city.
As part of Brazil’s Costa Verde coast, the nearby Gold Trail and Serra da Bocaina National Park highlight the native Atlantic forest and fauna such as the sloth.

Paraty is a magical place. Worthwhile the trip. I visited the place in 2004 and now again after 20 years. Much has changed (many more shops and lots of boats), but the essence of the historical center and the magnificent bay did not. It will make you happy.

Paraty is a little bit of heaven.
Paraty is a little bit of heaven.
I love the water, the beaches, the islands and the jungle. Hire a boat and explore!
Every night the city is a block party with tables in the street and music spilling out of restaurants.
Don't miss the historical museum.

It’s a must see for any visitor or even Brazilian.
It’s a must see for any visitor or even Brazilian. A beautiful town with a historic center. The city has various nice restaurants (but usually quite pricy) and shops.
Since it’s not in the mountains, it’s easier to visit than for example ouro preto.

I think 1 or 2 nights is just right.
I think 1 or 2 nights is just right. It is nice to do a layover in Paraty because on the bus ride to and from (Rio/Sao Paulo) you can see quite a bit of the smaller towns and nature. If you did a bus direct from SP to Rio it would stick to the main highways and you wouldn't see as much. Worth a visit if you have time but keep in mind everything will be slightly more expensive as local tourists also like coming here. There are also lots of festivals so depending if you like festivals you could time your trip to coincide with one of them. During my stay there was a gastronomy festival which was pretty cool. They had cooking demonstrations and free samples of stuff.

Paraty is nothing more than a tourist trap and scam.
Paraty is nothing more than a tourist trap and scam. It is just 4 streets of colonial buildings with arrogant people. It is marketed extremely well as you believe that Paraty is a village of only colonial buildings however to our surprise they have added (obviously quite some time ago) more buildings and a bigger village the new town shall we call it. It is full of homeless people and danger the floor is disgusting and the people are intimidating. The supermarket is poorly built shed with insects everywhere and extremely overpriced. we left a day earlier than planned as we could not wait to escape the hell hole.

Paraty has a very smalll historical area.
Paraty has a very smalll historical area. Unless you want to take a boat trip you can view the area in a couple of hours. The beaches in Paraty itself are not very nice for swimming but outside there are beautiful beaches and areas.
Karine welcomed us very friendly and gave us good advices for the city.
The little garden was nice and welcoming. Overall the facilities were very clean.
The room had a good size and comfortable beds.
In general the location was good. You can easily have a short walk into the center of Paraty. AND the Hostel has a very good noise cancelling fence. You don't hear any traffic inside.
Beautiful Pousada with nice rooms. It's a very small unit with only 4 apartments so everything is really familiar. The owner will give you advice on what to do in Paraty and it was a good choice. The breakfast is good and you will get fresh juices and fresh eggs. Or whatever you ask for :)
The showers have warm water which is not always the case in Brazil.
Everything, lovely setting within the beautiful Paraty. It was an oasis and one of the nicest hotels in the area. Joao, Junior and everyone were so helpful, kind and attentive. The breakfast was delicious (recommend scrambled eggs) and filling, eating it on the terrace with the sun and sounds of Paraty was one to remember! We’d definitely come back again.
An amazing stay! The location is at the heart of Paraty historical center. The room had all the comforts of any 5 stars hotel while maintaining a colonial feel with modern Brazilian decoration. The staff was super friendly and the facilities of the hotel were excellent. What a pleasure to look out the balcony to the streets and the sky of Paraty!
We enjoyed our stay at Pousada Arte Urquijo thoroughly. Very comfortable bed, cozy rooftop room with view, friendly staff and great breakfast. We enjoyed talking with the owner Maria Cruz very much and hope to return again one day. A perfect spot to stay for anyone enjoying art and a little getaway in Paraty.
This was a nice pousada, located just a few minutes' walk from the old town centre. The environment of the pousada is welcoming, with a sheltered patio for guests to relax.
I was mostly in contact with Manuella, who was very pleasant to deal with, and helpful in organising a tour with a local tour company.
A small inn in a quiet neighborhood within walking distance of the historical center and the beach. The staff was caring, friendly and attentive. Marcos gave us excellent restaurant recommendations. Go for a meal at Restaurante Caminho Do Ouro. One of the best meals we had in Brazil!
Excellent location right at the heart of Paraty, the house is very well conserved and services are amazing. The food is excellent, both on the delicious and (in our case included) breakfast but also for dinner. I regret not having more meals at their restaurant during our stay.
The host who received us was kind. She shared 2 power adapter with us.
The place was quiet and the main bedroom was clean (see below).
Breakfast was ok. Far from an excellent breakfast when compared to the Brazilian standards for hotel breakfast.
Location near the bus station
Excellent location if you want to be by the beach in a quieter part of Paraty far from the nightlife. Rooms are simple and clean. The staff are nice. The bar/ restaurant is very good with reasonable prices. Perfect if you want a quiet place to relax by yourself or with friends.
Everything was great. Location is close to the city center, walking distance, staff was so kind, accommodation was clean and comfortable.
I totally recommend Che Lagarto for solo travellers and people who like getting to meet new people, both from Brazil and from abroad.
Beautiful setting, lovely pool, friendly staff. This is a gem of a hotel and I'd really recommend staying here. It's a short taxi into Paraty and worth it for the view, easy access to the beach etc. We loved borrowing the kayaks and exploring around the area too
Location was perfect only a short walk to the historic center. The property is very calm and peaceful, such a relaxing vibe. Great variety at breakfast just what’s needed to start the day. Would recommend Boutique Hotel Carpe Diem to anyone visiting Paraty!
The Pousada Alecrim Dourado is a good starting point for exploring the city, right in front of Paraty's historic old town. The rooms are well equipped and the staff are very friendly. In addition, the breakfast was very extensive and delicious.
Comfortable hotel in a historical building in the center of the historical city of Paraty. Near all main attractions within a walk distance in the center. The restaurant in the hotel serves a really good meal too.
The location is amazing, hotel is comfortable, we had the rooms with the balconies upstairs and it was really nice. it’s everything you can expect from a good Pousada.
We liked everything, the view, the breakfast, the staff, everything was really perfect. I can only highly recommend to stay at this pousada when visiting Paraty.
