ESTANCIA SANTA FE REVIEW I wanted to rate this place a ten. I wanted to for several reasons, but mostly because of the hospitality, friendliness, and helpfulness of its owners – a long-married couple who live on the grounds and take care of the place immaculately. They have been accommodating and nice, and have provided lots of useful information about Celaya, a smallish city in central Mexico where this hostel/hotel is located. A rating of ten pretty much means everything was as perfect as it could be, and that's a mighty high bar. Is any place ever really "perfect"? I haven't seen one yet. Truthfulness and the reality of the living situation had their way with me, as did my desire to give a full and fair appraisal of the place to other travelers. So, first, the two things which are probably most important are: (1) All factors considered, this hotel scores a nine, which is about as high as can be expected, and (2) It is probably the best deal, overall, you'll likely find in this area. You might find places that charge a little less, and you might find places that have more amenities. But a nice mix of locale, proximity to El Centro (downtown Celaya, less than a mile), budget, security, and amenities puts this hotel high on the list. It largely suited my budget and needs, and you'll probably do well, too. The Neighborhood This hotel/hostel is located in the San Antonio barrio (neighborhood) of Celaya (north, central part of the city) which features, among other things, a museum of mummies, two nice parks, a soccer stadium, plenty of American stores like Office Max, Costco, Wal-Mart, McDonalds, KFC, Pizza Hut, etc., along with plenty of authentic Mexican grocers, tiendas, and restaurants with some darn good food.
