A very safe and beautiful city with amazing forrest and not crowded beach. You can walk day and night without fear. Its possible to see tiny monkeys, hummingbirds, crabs and more. Quadrado and centro are both well worth a visit. Many restaurants at the quadrado, some overpriced, but in the back inside amazing views over the jungle. Trancoso is still a nice historic place worth a visit. Yet be aware: places like Praia de Espelho and some other beaches are packed during weekends and even during the week in the holidays crowded. So while being a charming village still, it is fully discovered, overpriced and hard to spontaneously find a table in any restaurant, since it is generally full. Trancoso is pure magic.
Trancoso is pure magic. There wasn't one thing we didn't like about this beautiful place and hope to be back very soon. Our favorite spots were Capim Santo for dinner and the UXUA beach bungalows. Trancoso is a hidden gem, a small town with the most beautiful beaches, it has a lot of character with beautiful buildings around the quadrado, walking is the easiest way to get around, but the street s and roads are narrow and there are lots of hills so it will certainly help you to be fit! There's a big selection of restaurants and cafes around the quadrado, some are quite expensive and not necessarily better than the cheaper places, don't judge a restaurant on how full it is as the nicest restaurant we ate at there, the UXUA Pousada was very quiet, there are also many beach bars from expensive to affordable, it all depends what appeals to you

My daughter and I had the chance to visit other local pousadas. Le Refuge is, by far, the best in town. Marc, the owner, is originally from Corsica, France. He brought the French charm and the warm atmosphere that represents his home country. The place is impeccable: clean, beautiful, delicious breakfast and peaceful. We will definitely be back.

Out of the three towns/cities we stayed in, Trancoso was the absolute best. I hope to return here in the future and stay in one of their beautiful villas again. Very clean, natural and even has coconut trees growing behind the property. We were also visited by around 7 small monkeys that stole our bananas which was so funny and cute. 10/10 experience here.
