On the south bank of the Ottawa River, the Canadian capital Ottawa is a grand symbol of what the country stands for: bilingualism, civic pride and wonderful vistas.
Facing Langevin Block (the prime minister’s office) is the city’s most famous landmark - the Centre Block parliament building. Its tall central tower and circular parliamentary library make a great photograph from Gatineau across the river, which is joined to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Rideau Canal by a series of locks. Skating on the frozen canal is a highlight of the huge Ottawa Winterlude festival.
The city’s history is detailed in Bytown Museum by the locks. Opposite is peaceful Major’s Hill Park, overlooked by Château Laurier, a historic hotel named after a former prime minister. Also named after him is Laurier House, his seat of office. Other important national buildings include the Royal Canadian Mint, Supreme Court, and Rideau Hall, the Queen’s official residence when in the country.
The business district and Ottawa Convention Centre are in Downtown, and nearby shopping options include Rideau Mall and ByWard Market - the oldest farmers’ market in Canada and the area with the best nightlife.
Ottawa accommodation on Booking.com includes luxury hotels with pools, B&Bs with parking and apartments near the train station, all easily accessible from MacDonald-Cartier Airport.

We made the mistake of going to Ottawa in April as many places were closed until May. We made the most of it and went to other museums and were so pleased. The Diefenbunker was incredible and I highly recommend that as a MUST visit! Beautiful days made for great walks- city is safe and clean. Exceptional restaurants. Will visit again- in the summer!

I loved Ottawa! Such a clean and friendly city. It's a little quiet at times and in certain areas, but just make sure to look for the lively areas like Byward Market, Westboro/Hintonburg, and Bank Street. Transit is pretty good. Lots of great restaurants.

A city full of fascinating museums and government-related buildings, many of which you can tour.
Ottawa originally wasn't really on my destination list (a friend told me that stopping over for 1 day would be enough), but surprisingly I spent 3 days in the city and feel like I still had plenty left to see. You can tour buildings on Parliament Hill for free with advance reservation (eg: House of Commons, House of Lords, Supreme Court). There are also a lot of excellent museums like the Ingenium (science), Canadian Museum of History just across the river in Gatineau, National Gallery of Canada (art), and Royal Canadian Mint, just to name a few.
A great place to learn more about Canada, what it means to be Canadian, and gain a lot of cultural and sociological insights.

I loved Ottawa and I can contrast it with Montreal (which I did not like that much). Ottawa is a bit smaller, a bit cleaner, a bit streamline (aka you can find things much easier) and everybody speaks English (unlike Montreal)...
PS. If you like history or tanks, I recommend the Canadian War Museum...

We loved where we stayed (Delta Ottawa Downtown).
We loved where we stayed (Delta Ottawa Downtown). This hotel was close to:
- Parliament Hill
- Senate Building
- Rideau Centre
The hotel is a couple of blocks from Sparks Street! Great location.
I would avoid coming on weekends- can get really busy at Tourist Attractions.
I felt safe. I planned to do some things in Ottawa but took ill, so I stayed and wandered around downtown Ottawa. It was nice. The breakfast was a little lame, but I could go to a dollar store to get an orange juice. The staff were FANTASTIC. I especially like Simon, and I made reference to his recent marriage while in the eating room. He vaguely remembered me from September. Nice. I really can't wait to return for one night with my partner, and do the tour. EXCELLENT value.
Our Family has been coming to this hotel since 2015... We always come back for the Pool... water temp warm (perfect) ... due to covid they only allow one family in the pool at a time... (i think this is better)
We booked two rooms with both double beds... Hotel called and upgraded bcuz they ran out of the double bed rooms so we got 3 rooms (two with kings and one with 2double beds)...
Travelodge Ottawa East always tries to make us feel welcome the staff are friendly and helpful,
This is a great place to stay. Why just have a hotel room when you can have a suite? The suite was very comfortable with a separate bedroom and a useful kitchen area should you want to take a break from eating out all the time. The location, if not in the middle of downtown, was close with a short walk to the canal that gives a very pleasant short walk leading down to the parliament area. Nice balcony to sit on.
Location of the hotel is absolutely perfect! You’re not right in the downtown core but you’re less than a $10 Uber from most attractions. Rooms are great, lots of extra space compared to a typical hotel room. Having the separate bedroom is so nice! Makes it like an apartment more than a hotel. Staff were always happy and very helpful. Upgraded our room at no cost due to a booking error on my part.
The hotel is virtually brand new. It’s location was perfect. Close to the market, canal and galleries. It is in the more vitalized west side of central Ottawa. The design was very modern yet warm. The staff warm and helpful. Too bad pandemic restrictions limited the true scope of the amenities offered at the hotel. We will return.
Probably the best breakfast I’ve ever had from a three star hotel. The rooms were very comfortable and there was a great set up with a table for if you need to work from your room. was the best hotel we stayed at during our 3 city vacation. Location was also perfect, we could walk to the market as well as downtown easily.
Absolutely fantastic! Great location, easy to find parking entrance as with the construction happening downtown some hotel parkings are hard to navigate. Room is spacious and super clean and comfy. Ice machine available and tab water is drinkable and delicious.
I'd return for sure. Highly recommended.
The hotel is in a great location near the downtown area. The hotel was clean and the breakfast was great. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The pool is clean and open late for those who might have a full day's schedule. The rooms are spacious and have what you need.
Front desk and and housekeeping staff (very friendly and very willing to help)
Apartments (very spacious and the kitchen is fully equiped for a short stay with family/children)
Location (at the Ottawa's downtown core and a quiet street even during Canada Day's weekend!)
Location is very convenient - just a few blocks to downtown or just 5 min drive to center of downtown Ottawa.
Breakfast - it is free but you have hash, omelet (small but enough size for breakfast) as well as muffins (a bit cheaper version of McMuffins) and more.
Location: just by the ByWard market and downtown Ottawa, which is convenient. However, the immediate surroundings did not feel safe, with a lot of persons (probably under the influence of alcohol or other substances) shouting and hanging out in groups in the dark.
The inn is within walking distance of downtown Ottawa- it is charming and very comfortable and the staff is great - breakfast is exceptional - we’d like to have been able to stay longer
Comfortable, clean, spacious room. The hotel is located in the middle of downtown Ottawa, and it is within walking distance of just about anything you would want to do.
