On the south bank of the Ottawa River, the Canadian capital Ottawa is a grand symbol of what the country stands for: bilingualism, civic pride and wonderful vistas.
Facing Langevin Block (the prime minister’s office) is the city’s most famous landmark - the Centre Block parliament building. Its tall central tower and circular parliamentary library make a great photograph from Gatineau across the river, which is joined to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Rideau Canal by a series of locks. Skating on the frozen canal is a highlight of the huge Ottawa Winterlude festival.
The city’s history is detailed in Bytown Museum by the locks. Opposite is peaceful Major’s Hill Park, overlooked by Château Laurier, a historic hotel named after a former prime minister. Also named after him is Laurier House, his seat of office. Other important national buildings include the Royal Canadian Mint, Supreme Court, and Rideau Hall, the Queen’s official residence when in the country.
The business district and Ottawa Convention Centre are in Downtown, and nearby shopping options include Rideau Mall and ByWard Market - the oldest farmers’ market in Canada and the area with the best nightlife.
Ottawa accommodation on Booking.com includes luxury hotels with pools, B&Bs with parking and apartments near the train station, all easily accessible from MacDonald-Cartier Airport.

A city full of fascinating museums and government-related buildings, many of which you can tour.
Ottawa originally wasn't really on my destination list (a friend told me that stopping over for 1 day would be enough), but surprisingly I spent 3 days in the city and feel like I still had plenty left to see. You can tour buildings on Parliament Hill for free with advance reservation (eg: House of Commons, House of Lords, Supreme Court). There are also a lot of excellent museums like the Ingenium (science), Canadian Museum of History just across the river in Gatineau, National Gallery of Canada (art), and Royal Canadian Mint, just to name a few.
A great place to learn more about Canada, what it means to be Canadian, and gain a lot of cultural and sociological insights.

As I said earlier, my trip to Ottawa was expensive. Wanted to add in the ticket and then having to walk. I do have a severe back problem and I have a handicap sticker in my window and I still got $125 ticket.

I loved Ottawa and I can contrast it with Montreal (which I did not like that much). Ottawa is a bit smaller, a bit cleaner, a bit streamline (aka you can find things much easier) and everybody speaks English (unlike Montreal)...
PS. If you like history or tanks, I recommend the Canadian War Museum...

Went to the Air and Space Museum - exceptional!
Went to the Air and Space Museum - exceptional! Loved that the aircraft on display were all authentic, no cheap reproductions. Staff at the museum were very friendly.
Spent a lot of time in the parks doing birding - very spacious, lots of forest land, good trails.
Roadways were busy, but had wide lanes and multiple left turn lanes at main interesections which helped keep things moving.

Ottawa needs more Freedom Fighters.
Ottawa needs more Freedom Fighters. To many politicians stealing tax payers dollars.
I liked Ottawa better before the woke culture took over.
Why do Ottawa people never smile?
Parking is always a problem in Ottawa. And the parking patrol did ticket me. As I was waiting to check into the hotel.
Lots of good restaurants close by to the hotel.
You can walk from here to all sites. Parliament. City Hall etc
We had a small 2-bedroom apartment which is perfectly fine for 2 students. The beds were quite comfy. It's a little small if you stay with a family of four but it's OK for 2 nights. The location is outside of central Ottawa which could have been easily reached by bus but there was a huge construction going on so it took at least twice as long to go downtown as usual. It should be finished by now so that this problem shouldn't exist any longer. Bathroom and kitchen were cleaned well.
Will definitely stay here again. The staff were amazing and were so personable and helpful. This hotel has a wonderful breakfast offered with lots of seating and is not overrun with kids, like some other hotels. The rooms are spacious and recently updated. The gym facilities are terrific with lots of natural light and a variety of equipment (free weights, cardio machines, new cable machine). This is located close to the University and not far from downtown.
The staff was very nice and helpful and there was always someone there.
My room was on level 9 and there is no elevator but I could leave my big luggage at the reception desk and just ask to get something from it when I needed it.
I really liked that there was a breakfast with fruits included and the location was amazing to explore byward market, downtown ottawa and parliament etc.
The jail tour was very interesting!
Huge room with walk-in closet, lots of space, king bed (listed as queen, so a nice surprise), private en-suite bathroom with giant tub & shower stall, mini-fridge with freezer in the room (a big bonus). All very clean, in a quiet area with restaurants and stores nearby, 5 mins from the highway, 2-25 mins from downtown Ottawa. Host was friendly, check in was easy with combo lock on door.
- Parking was below the building and had access directly to hotel via elevator, however it was operated by third parties.
- Walking distance to downtown core and parliament hill
- Breakfast was good the bonus goes to the tea leaf they placed with empty tea back you could have a real tea not the fake one which is just color and flavor
Check in was great. No issues. Room was located on the 10th floor with a great view of downtown Ottawa. The room was spacious, clean and bed was very comfortable. Bathroom was also clean and newly redone. Very quiet at night. We will stay here again in the future. Location is perfect and offers lots within walking distance.
The room size was amazing, the facilities were great and the breakfast was perfect. Beds were really comfortable and nice size everything in the room was amazing honestly. Plus you're in the heart of downtown Ottawa so you're close to it all.
Location is perfect for us. Easy walking distances to downtown or even Hintonburg. Breakfasts that are included in hotel rate are excellent. Lots of choices and the staff are very friendly and helpful.
We choose this room as a cheap option close enough to downtown Ottawa to walk. It was exactly that. And we were lucky enough to find parking on the street both nights.
Comfortable, clean, spacious room. The hotel is located in the middle of downtown Ottawa, and it is within walking distance of just about anything you would want to do.
