We only spend one night at Hostal Puerta Roja but were very happy with our stay. The room is very modern, the bed super comfy and the shower is a bliss. The hosts Antonio & his wife are super friendly and even helped us print our ferry tickets - much appreciated! We were also able to leave our luggage at the house after check out and use the common areas before continuing our travel, which was great. Thanks for everything!

The hotel was quite interesting. It's an gorgeous, older building (though it seems to have been remodeled and kept up well). In a nearby restaurant, we saw a painting of the hotel from an earlier time. The staff at the hotel were very helpful in pointing us to a shop that could help us with a phone problem. I wish we had stayed more than one night, as there were other things we would have done in the area (like see condors).

All staff made us feel welcome, helped us in any way we needed them at the front desk.
Came back each day to the cleaner been with clean beds, towels and personal touch with the kids teddy's on the bed.
Breakfast was amazing with so much to choose from and all the restaurant staff were exceptionally helpful.

Charming hotel with a nice bedroom. We couldn't have breakfast because we had really early excursions planned, but they ensured that we got a really nice picnic instead.

It really is only a place to go to other better places in Patagonia. The restaurant scene is not great and there’s really not much to do there. I’d say use it as a place to stay overnight to go somewhere else but if you do don’t expect to find any great options for food or entertainment.

A great (very windy) city at the end of the world.
A great (very windy) city at the end of the world. Close to breathtaking scenery (Tierra del Fuego, Torres del Paine) and historical sites. The city felt secure. The fish market offers amazing good value dishes (no vegan options:(). There are good walks close to the city (a national park 15 minutes by car). Punta Arenas is easy to navigate on foot if the weather permits - the wind can bowl you over!!!

Punta Arenas is a nice town.
Punta Arenas is a nice town. But don't expect too much of it. It has really fantastic, great coffee places. And very good restaurants, actually it is amazing that there are so many nice restaurants and so many great coffee shops in such a small town. Apart from that, it is a small town. Don't get me wrong: it is the *town* to be if you want to be at the Strait of Magellans!

Punta Arenas had more to do than I expected!
Punta Arenas had more to do than I expected! I had heard from others that it was a sleepy residential town, but we enjoyed walking along Playa Colon, walking up to Mirador Cerro de la Cruz, shopping for handmade gifts at the Municipal Artesanal Market, petting the community dogs at the Plaza de Armas, touring Cerveceria Austral (reservations needed in advance), going on one of the penguin and sea lion tours, and eating authentic classic Chilean food at La Marmita restaurant. If we had more time, we would've visited some of the nearby museums to learn more about Magellan's sail through the strait. We loved that Ubers were quick and plentiful but that the town was very walkable just about anywhere.

The center of town is quite a distance from the airport.
The center of town is quite a distance from the airport. Punta Arenas is good for a jumping off point to explore Patagonia. For birders, there is a great e-Bird hot spot just out of town towards the airport.

It is an amazing place to visit.
It is an amazing place to visit. There are so many things to do, especially if you compare it with the homologous city in Argentina, Ushuaia. I was from Sunday to Friday, and it was not enough to do more trekkings, namely the Glaciar or around the Strait of Magallanes. I highly recommend staying in Punta Arenas for around two weeks and programme as many trips as possible before. I was not able to do the trip to Puerto Williams, because it required 30 hours on a ship. There are only ideas in my opinion.
The hotel is amazing and very comfy. Located approximately 7min walk to the city center - uber and taxi are available 24/7.
Breakfast was amazing and there was tea available 24/7.
The staff is very good, specially Juanita and Marisol that were very polite and helpful.
The bedroom is really good, very clean. The shower is good and hot, beds are large and comfy. You can also enjoy the hotel common areas in the rooftop or near the fireplace.
I recommend it and hope to go back another time.
Excellent location within a walking distance from the center/shops/restaurants/cafes, but still quiet at night and 1 min from the ocean where you can walk on the beach. We were welcomed with delicious chocolate muffins. The lady who owns the place is absolutely lovely - super friendly and welcoming, gave us her WhatsApp if we had questions. Bed is comfy, place is clean and has a large window. Exactly as advertised. Very safe, properly locks with a gate. Punta arenas is generally very safe.
Ana was such a special host! She provided much more than was expected. She was helpful w local restaurant suggestions, was willing to take me to a lookout of the town, and helpful w everything along the stay.
Ana had a knack for educating about local Patagonia history.
The condo was very clean. It had all the amenities one would need. The views were very nice as well.
I would highly recommend Vilanita to anyone looking for a place to stay in Punta Arenas! You will not be disappointed.
We were in 810 and 811 on the top floor with ocean views. The windows were small, but they told us that would be the case. The room was large and well equipped with a small sitting area. Staff were all very helpful and all front desk staff spoke English. They were also knowledgeable about the COVID requirements for guests leaving Chile and did print out our documents and negative tests. The breakfast was plentiful. Room service was quick, affordable and tasty.
We flew into Punta Arenas late and out early for our tour - the staff mending the Recep at night was great, making sure we had breakfast packed and ready to go super early in the morning (including a pack of shortbread in different shapes - hopefully not something his family baked for him to last him through the night!!) Overall a great stay. Also super near Solo Expedition which we were doing our tour with the following morning.
Nice private room and bathroom has hot water! The kitchen is big enough and they provide free coffee/tea. It is not a hotel or hostel, but literally a little house for different people so take that into account. The owner is also really nice, he even let me stay a little longer for the day and drove me to the harbour when it was time to go. He also wanted to give me a tour of Punta Arenas, very nice guy.
Filipe is very kind and clean, he is very friendly and helped me with great recommendations of restaurants and Chilean culture. Very sympathetic person.
But the highlight of the stay was chiri the cat. She is such a sweet cat curious and making sure you have a good company. I wish I could take chiri with me
My partner and I recently stayed for 6 nights here and felt comfortable throughout our stay. It is a small apartment that is well equipped with a nice garden area in a pleasant residential area close to the centre of Punta Arenas and all amenities. The host Alejandro was friendly and helpful.
Breakfast is decent they let you take sandwhiches with you and wrapped it for us! They were nice about it! The staff are awesome and super helpful with recommendations! The location is good and easy to get around Punta Arenas! They also let you leave your baggage with them and it’s safe!
Great location, close to the mirador viewpoint, very warm and cozy space with free simple breakfast and 2 cute dogs! We had a lovely room with a view overlooking Punta Arenas which was a beautiful surprise, and a bathroom across the hallway that was private only for us. 100% recommend!
Very nice hosts. Room is quiet and clean and has 2 separate bedrooms along with a full kitchen. They informally reserve a parking space on the street with an orange cone. Good value for spending a quick night in Punta Arenas on the way someplace else.
Good location. Safe area and easy walking to waterfront and downtown. Super sweet lady who runs/owns hostel. Gave us a great recommendation nearby for dinner. Son provided a car shuttle to airport which was convenient (not free).
This hostel is so perfect and beautiful. The owners go above and beyond to make it a comfortable stay for everyone. So clean, awesome breakfast and warm, comfortable rooms. The perfect stay in Punta Arenas!
Comfy typical Chilean hotel. Excellent location, and the folks who run it are very friendly and helpful, even at odd hours. Good place to spend a couple of days. Bring cash to pay with (CLP / USD / EUR).
Fine budget place in Punta Arenas. Staff was great. Good location and the gelato place next door is awesome! Easy walk to the bus station and they let us check in early.
