Talca's got a very different vibe to other cities in the area. It's a great base for visiting Altos de Lircay National Park, and if you get the first bus there and the last bus back you can do the Enladrillado hike which is spectacular!

In my mind, Talca itself is not an interesting city at all.
In my mind, Talca itself is not an interesting city at all. However, it's a very good stepping point from which to visit Vilches, a village in the magnificent Andes mountains, and wineries in the Maule river valley.

Moderately expensive comparado to some others in Chile, but doable. My onlyncomplaints: the safe didn't work and they never replaced it (I notified them but didn't push it) and wall had been repaired for some reason and replastered, but the dust from sanding and prep work had not been properly vacuumed. Our room was lovely with a nice balcony, and the breakfast room was gorgeous. The location was great because it is near a square, with several restaurants and bars nearby. One of the staff recommended a restaurant to us (Pisco Lima), and even made suggestions on what to order. We thought it was one of the best meals we had during our month-long trip to Chile.

Even for Chilean standards Pia and Kay are the nicest people you will meet. They were super helpful in everything we needed and made us feel totally at home. They were super flexible and even helps us clean our tent in the garden. Could not wish for anything better!

Hostel Casa Azul was a little off the main plaza and we were given a large room and access to the kitchen ( no other guests were there). Close to Diagonal Street with restaurants and even a trendy cerveceria.
