Talca's got a very different vibe to other cities in the area. It's a great base for visiting Altos de Lircay National Park, and if you get the first bus there and the last bus back you can do the Enladrillado hike which is spectacular!

In my mind, Talca itself is not an interesting city at all.
In my mind, Talca itself is not an interesting city at all. However, it's a very good stepping point from which to visit Vilches, a village in the magnificent Andes mountains, and wineries in the Maule river valley.

The property sits in the middle of a lush environment with streams and beautiful gardens. There are goats, chickens, geese, rabbits a cat and 2 cute friendly little dogs ☺️ We loved it here. The owners were also extremely helpful and could advise us on the best treks in the area as well as the flora and fauna. And the food was the best in Chile - homemade and vegetarian! …by the son of the owner - Chile’s Jamie Oliver 😋

The best thing is the garden with the pool (which was closed...) which felt like an oasis in the city and is a nice place to hang out on a warm day. There's no lock on the door of the room but it is a small hotel with just a few rooms and the host seems always around and there are cameras. The main door was always locked. So felt perfectly safe.

Even for Chilean standards Pia and Kay are the nicest people you will meet. They were super helpful in everything we needed and made us feel totally at home. They were super flexible and even helps us clean our tent in the garden. Could not wish for anything better!

Hostel Casa Azul was a little off the main plaza and we were given a large room and access to the kitchen ( no other guests were there). Close to Diagonal Street with restaurants and even a trendy cerveceria.
