FAQs about hotels in Guangzhou

The City That Has It All

Historically known as Canton and China’s third largest city, Guangzhou is the birthplace of the most popular type of Chinese cuisine with iconic wonton soup and dim-sum. It boasts an impressive skyline, some of the oldest temples in the country and crowded markets with everything from tea to hi-tech electronics.

The busy city centre mesmerises with its futuristic architecture and beautifully lit skyscrapers but just a short trip away you can find yourself in the quiet haven of Nansha Wetland, a bird sanctuary. Rejuvenated with new energy you can then admire the traditional Cantonese architecture of Xiguan Residence, once occupied by the upper class.

One of the city’s most popular attractions, the Liurong Temple is an absolute must-see, dating back to the 6th century and featuring a 17-storey high pagoda. Make sure you don’t miss traditional buildings near Yide Road as they’re slowly being removed from the map due to the city’s rapid growth.

From a 1000-year-old lake garden, to plenty of theme parks, relaxing rolling hills and mountains, Guangzhou seems to indeed have it all! Add impressive street markets and shopping centres and you’re up for a fascinating ride.

Guangzhou Airport is a convenient metro or taxi ride away and Booking.com provides over 390 different accommodation options for you to choose from.

    My favourite city in China.

My favourite city in China. I lived here before for a year, and have visited many times. A great combination of modernity with Cantonese history and culture. Different areas, each with their own atmosphere. Very comfortable weather in winter, perfect to get away from the cold north of China. So much to see and do.

Not too much for the sightseeing and air quality is not always perfectly good, but the city is really comfortable for staying, we enjoyed every day being there. Couple days more there for shopping or going elsewhere wouldn’t hurt. We loved staying in the Huacheng square area. A lot places to eat there, couple of malls near and metro station nearby. Metro is a great way to get around the city. But like 4-5 days there for tourists is max

Guangzhou is a great, colourful, vibrant, multinational city which welcomes visitors with open arms. So many great places to eat, and a myriad of cultural sites in snd around Guangzhou to go sightseeing. Two weeks was too short to see everything, and I will undoubtedly return. Getting around by taxi or metro us easy and cheap. Late night shopping in the big malls is a great experience.

Wonderful city with great food, generally polite people and a plethora of things to buy. If you are into dried foods (flower mushrooms, sea cucumber, chilli, other herbs), this is the place in the world. We came across some replica items ... looked real, but the prices the people were charging were ridiculous so we walked away. Local fashion unfortunately suffers, but there are pockets where you can find some interesting stuff. The concierge told me that in 5 years that he has worked in the hotel, he has never seen a doctor visit the hotel and guests had to go to the hospital. If you fall ill, this is a nightmare if you do not speak the language. The hospital is chaotic and there is little to zero respect for queues - people just barge into the room and demand the doctor's attention. Naturally, they are all irritated. Bizarrely, the default in Guangzhou is to be Rude to you (in a hospital) until they realized you are not and then they are polite to you. But the service standard is atrocious. I'd say 2/10 for me because I speak some Chinese. If I didn't, it will probably be -5/10.
