I definitelywould recommend staying at least overnight to be able to enjoy Guatape. The day trip just doesn't cover it. Plus a bonus is being able to walk around in the morning when nobody is around!

We absolutely enjoyed our stay in the cute little town of Guatape. We climbed up the Piedra del penol rock and the views are mind-blowing. We also enjoyed our stay at La Pausa hotel with stellar lakefront views. Loved Guatape:)

I spent 3 nights in Guatapé. Lovely town.
I spent 3 nights in Guatapé. Lovely town. Such a relaxed vibe. I think it’s a shame to just come on a day trip to take of few photos of colourful buildings. It’s a nice place to stroll the streets, especially in the evening, with many great restaurant options. I could have stayed longer. There are plenty of things to do like go on a boat tour, or climb la piedra. Walk throughout the streets and shop or chat with the friendly locals. Or just relax with a coffee and a treat at the many cafe’s, or a beer at one of the pubs. If you are not in a rush to cram everything into a day, I’d recommend staying at least a night.

What a colorful town.
What a colorful town. I read so many people do just a day trip but I’m so glad we spent the night. I wish we would’ve spent 2 nights. You have to climb the piedra but also give yourself enough time in the town itself. We did a boat ride but I wish we would’ve had more time to do other water activities as it’s just so pretty.

Gutape is cool, not polluted and so safe that people leave doors open. I wasn't given a pavilion key and the door could easily be opened if the nearby window was open. There are two main towns, El Penol and Guatape. El Penol is larger and more everyday paced; Guatape has restaurants by the dozens to cater to the tourists from Medellin, Colombia, and, increasingly, from another continent. The altitude is such that it is between 62 and 78 F. year round; however, global warming seems to have raised the maximal temperature to 80F. or a bit more. The "lake" is beautiful, steep promontories along a winding "coastline", dotted with secondary homes of wealthy Colombians for the most part. Last notice is that the place is above 1800 meters and I had altitude sickness, which would have dissipated over a few days. The only tourist landmark is a giant black rock that Colombians seem to find attractive and they can climb to the top. I found it a dark, mass that ruined the overall scenery. To each his own.

Busy but charming town. Lovely waterfront.
Busy but charming town. Lovely waterfront. Makes every effort to entice you to buy beautiful things you don’t need. These are well-made crafts. Charming houses. A bit noisy with most cafes playing loud music, although I found one playing delightful piano jazz and I lingered there. A few hours in town was enough for me, though, and I was glad I stayed a few km away.
The rooms are perfectly equipped with everything you need and they encourage the use of room service, which is great because the rooms are little private cabins perfectly distributed along the hill; each enjoying their own privacy, hot tub and view to water. The food is great, rooms are spectacular and they have water activities onsite. This for us was important because not all hotels In Guatape have easy water access. Boato basically ticked most of the boxes because of this.
Everything! The room design was stunning, so was the whole area around it. Every detail was special and had some creativity in it. We loved how artistic everything was and it looks even better than in the pictures! The hotel manager Sony was extremely reliable and helped us quickly with everything we needed. It was an exceptional experience staying here and we left with so much inspiration🫶🏼
Room has a great open room of the courtyard. Although many of the trees cover the view of the lake from the room, you can sit on the balcony and get a better view. The hotel is definitely quieter than staying in the center of town, but be prepared to take a taxi or tutu to get lunch or dinner. The hotel is about a 15 minute walk from the center of town.
The food was amazing, and they offer many activities to do during your stay.
My room was called "La Clarita" and it had a spectacular view of the natural forest and lake. I would strongly recomend visiting this hotel if you are looking to get away from Medellin for a weekend or if you intend visiting Guatape.
This was a very nice hotel, located far enough from the center of town to be quiet but not too far that you couldn’t walk. The common areas were very nice and it was fun to sit in the patio in the morning and watch the birds. Our room was big and comfortable and nicer than the pictures. Overall, a great place!
The hotel itself is great! Loads of things to enjoy (from the garden to the hammock area, etc.)
Breakfast was good! Room for 3 was a bit too small, we had 3 luggages and almost couldn’t fit all in there.
Breakfast was good - we could either eat in the kitchen or outside in the garden to enjoy the view.
Gorgeous hotel with a view that defies logic. It is also right next to the rock that you will be ascending if you visit so that is a plus. Tuk-tuk ride into Guatape town, which is very worth visiting, runs $10-15k COP (about $4). You won't regret staying here.
The hotel has a great location and a beautiful view of the Peñol and the lake. You can easily take a tuc- tuc to Guatape. Breakfast which was included was excellent and the staff was very friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend to stay here.
Modern, clean and comfortable hotel. Huge terrace on the third floor with views of the town and La Piedra. Nice outdoor dining area for breakfast. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. The hotel is a short walk from town, across the bridge
Beautiful and huge apartment in great location to explore Guatape. The apartment is clean and kitchen is well equipped with all utilities (including coffee, sugar) you might need. We enjoyed our visit and totally recommend the apartment.
the best hotel we have stayed in Colombia. staff are fantastic and there to help, rooms are very nice and clean, views are amazing! we suggest a boat ride from the hotel to Guatapé.
We loved the location and the views. We loved the way customer service handled themselves through my complains related to the hotel versus cabins stays.
