The food and the culture were great. The views were amazing.
The food and the culture were great. The views were amazing. And although the tap water is safe to drink in this city, I would stick to bottled water unless you won't mind the rather poor (and metallic) taste of tap.
One thing to note if you are an obvious foreigner, there are people constantly hounding you and bombarding you while you are walking in the street just to sell you things, get you to dine with them, or simply give you money. This was my least favorite part of the trip. I am a tall white American woman. At certain times of the day/night, I could not walk 10 steps without being approached by street vendors or begging children.

The city if Medellin is a city like no other.
The city if Medellin is a city like no other. You have a mixture of city-like with the immersive of nature. It looks like a city with beauty and nature combined. I suggest taking the metro or cable car. Medellin is similar to NYC but way more eco-friendly!

be careful with taxi's they may run the bill up taking longer routes, UBER works better, but even they try to modify a trip for a greater fare .. You can walk el Pobaldo without any problem .

Pablano neighborhood is kind of revolting.
Pablano neighborhood is kind of revolting.
At the same time, if you are a tourist, how can you resist going there? It has all the high end restaurants, photo ops, boutiques, discos, and it is on fire with energy. Pergamino Coffee shop is fantastic.
The vibe of Lleras might be insulting to your soul though. Its full of scammers, prostitution, drugs, and beggars. Its dehumanizing and it will be hard not to burn through money when you are there.
In contrast Laurelas is more local and friendly. You will get some of the warm Columbian character from waitstaff and local coffee shops. There's a ton of partying in that neighborhood too, but not nearly as sleezy as Lleras Park.
Pablano in general is a tourist trap with high prices and a mediocre return on investment. It does not feel good to be there. Perhaps if I was local in Pablano I would know of all the cool little hang-outs, gyms, and dance classes. Which I am sure are abundant.
If I were to stay in Medellin for a while I would get a hotel in Laurelis and then look for a month-to-month rental in a neighborhood like Candelabra.
Its a relatively safe city for expats and has a great train system. The mountains are unique. If you were a local you could probably live there cheap.
Just stay away from Lleras is my advice.

It was our first time un Medellín 3 nights-4 days weren't enough. Beautiful city, nice people, it is simply amazing the change they went through from the 80's to now. Three infallible on the list of places to visit: Plaza Botero, pueblito paisa and Comuna 13.

Fantastic town, have to go there again.
Fantastic town, have to go there again.
Staying in El Poblado Manilla area was fantastic!
Slow moving place full of nice cafe's, restaurants and relaxing places to hang out.
Lots of places to go and see in the town and surrounding areas.
The hotel is fantastic with an unbeatable location, in the heart of El Poblado and 10 min walk to Provenza. The service from all of the staff is exemplary in particular Pablo in the roof top bar and breakfast area who always made me feel welcome every single time. Sure sound proofing isn’t the greatest between rooms HOWEVER it is only a minor disruption - especially as you’re in Medellin, who wants to be sitting in their room all the time anyway!!! Highly recommended and I will stay again.
we stay in a lot of hotels in a lot of places in the world but I can't think of one better than this (considering the price and place, of course). it draws an international hipster crowd, which has it's pros and cons (it's certainly not a very "colombian" experience to stay at landmark, if there's such a thing as the "colombian" experience), but if you're up for a hotel where simply, for once, everything works and every traveller's need has been considered, try this one.
This is a pleasant place to stay. It is very simple and basic. There is nothing that makes it above average other than the employees are very nice. The food offered at the restaurant is fresh and simple but taste good. It is your regular Colombian fare. Breakfasts could be better and portions could be a little larger. However it is OK for the price. This is a hotel for locals or foreigners that do not mind a average understated stay.
I loved the location of this hotel. The area offers all the amenities you need with options to walk, uber, cab, catch the metro, or whatever you need. The neighbourhood is both quiet and full of activity, and has to be one of the greenest in all the cities in Colombia. The staff were excellent - just really lovely people all around; so helpful and so kind.
It was my 2nd and 3rd stay at the Belford and I have been as happy as I was the first time: quiet location just 5 minutes by car from the center of El Poblado, stylish appeal, great pool, comfy rooms with everything you can ask for, good breakfast (for Colombia that is), very helpful and friendly English speaking (!!!) staff. At this price level a gem!
We had a great stay in this very charming hotel. They basically converted a very typical colombian house to a hotel. The room was very spacious for family like us and clean. All the staff is very considerate. The food is excellent and reasonably priced and made by lovely cooks. And the view from the rooftop is amazing by night. Highly recommend!
This is a very nice hotel, with very good rooms and a very good breakfast buffet every morning. In a southern area of Medellin. It takes a 5-10-min taxi to get to the area of El Poblado for evening dinners. It's also good value overall, given the price of hotels in Medellin felt more expensive than the rest of the country.
It was awesome. We were there as a couple, one who is more of a party type and the other more laid back, but we were able to have both world. The staff was amazing (people in Colombia are especially friendly and at Masaya Medellin it was as expected). We are vegan and the menu is really adapted toward our needs.
The pillows and beds were so comfortable, the free breakfast had a lot of great option, the free mini bar with Colombian products was a great touch, the roof top bar and some really trendy bars/restaurants downstairs...all in the heart of Poblado. The Click Clack is one of the trendiest places in town!
We enjoyed our stay here. The room was clean and the hotel is in a good area (El Poblado) with many restaurants and things to do. The rooftop pool and bar is nice. The Capture Colombia tour desk had some nice tours that we enjoyed. There is a cafe inside the hotel.
Beautiful new hotel, very well located in the el Poblado area yet still quiet and easy to sleep. Great breakfast. Comfortable spacious room and nice bathroom. Friendly staff. Amazing price. I would absolutely recommend staying here. it feels like a luxury hotel.
Centrally located near the busy streets of Laureles, Hotel Aura provides easy acsess to restaurants, clubs, bars and supermarkets without the hustle of the bar streets. The room was spacious enough and the matress one the best I had in Colombia.
Amazing place to stay in Medellin! The neighbourhood is really nice with supermarkets, bakeries, cafes/restaurants. All perfectly clean and the shower has to be the best we’ve had in Colombia in the past 2 months. The kitchen is also amazing.
Great design hotel in the coolest area in Medellin - El Poblado. Great location, a lot of coffees / restaurants around the corner. Staff was amazing, all of them were very helpful, (especially Julio!). Breakfast was delicious too.
Location and the staff. Everything you could need or want is within a block or two of the hotel. The staff is very friendly and goes out of their way to help. Good in room air conditioning, which isn’t common in Colombia.
This was the best hostel/hotel/airbnb I've stayed at in colombia. Such friendly staff and guests! Such a great vibe! Such a great and safe location! Would give this place more than a 10 rating if I could.
Location is good being in El Poblado, the popular Medellin tourist spot on a relatively (by Colombian standards) quiet street, other European travellers in the hostel so making friends was easy
A really cosy, personal hostel! A own room for that price is a luxury. A lot of people that stay for a long time, Colombians and Venezolanas, what gives it a really *home-like* feeling!
It was a nice bnb style hotel with a great walled of back garden area as well. Breakfast was good too. A interesting blend of fruit and Colombian food with some real juice too.
