Ocotal beach and the surrounding beaches are mostly for sun-bathing and wading. There are warnings for undertow. The sand is sharp volcanic cinder sand, thus a mix from dust to small stones. I can be uncomfortable to walk on some portions of the beach with bare feet. The beaches are very clean, uncrowded and very scenic. It is easily accessed.

Lovely beach, nice kids playground, some shade on the beach from overhanging trees. Very few activities nearby unless you want to fish or go out on a yacht. Father Roosters hours 11-9 serves good drinks and meals at American prices.

Having a car made it possible to visit several beaches in...
Having a car made it possible to visit several beaches in the area-Ocotal , Coco, Hermosa, Potrero, Brasilito and Conchal ( the shell beach!) We loved the bird sounds and feeling of seclusion. Soda Teresita at the Coco Beachfront was good for cheap Costa Rican food. Watch out for the sand fleas at sunset!

We loved this beach much more than the neighbouring Coco Beach. It was quiet, clean and perfect for families just wanting to chill without the hustle and bustle of a crowd. You can grab a bite to eat at Father Roosters on the beach which has delicious food and drinks. If you can stay to watch the beautiful sunset 🌅AlexandriaCanada - 8.0Scored 8.0
This Bed and Breakfast is excellent value for your $.
This Bed and Breakfast is excellent value for your $. The location is very hilly so great walks to the beach and up to higher neighborhoods for excellent views. The breakfast was great and an opportunity to meet other travellers. There are a couple of restaurants within walking distance and you may need a car or a cab for dinner after dark. I also took advantage of the day pass at Maracuya - great value to use their pool, beach and restaurant. Its about 20-25 min walk from the Hotel Ocotal.

My stay was too short - would definitely come back again If the opportunity arises. The staff was so helpful, even scheduled for someone from a Lab to come to our villa to take our covid tests for the return home, which was so convenient for us.

With a north facing vista you could get some nice late afternoon shade. We had tasty breakfasts daily (thank you Lili Alvarez) in the upper dining area. We used that same area each evening to unwind, listen to music, play cards, and hang with our travel companions. Our room (room 3 lower level) was clean and comfortable and the bed was very comfortable. Thisbe and Mark were friendly and informative about the area.

Sandra and Patrick were excellent hosts and communicated well prior to our trip, as well as made us feel very much at home during our stay. Sandra was especially kind and took time to give us local recommendations and offered us homebaked treats as well. If you like cats and dogs, they have many to love on 😊 Highly recommend staying here during your visit to Ocotal - we would love to come back one day!SylviaUnited States

It had a garden area with seating, hammocks etc., It had a very nice tiled pool, it had a large veranda. It had a lot of what you might call "old world charm". The breakfast was good: buffet style to start, then hot scrambled egg with or without beans served to you. There was some interesting paintings adorning the hallways. It was about an eight minute walk to the Ocotal beach.

No supermarket of any kind near beach so I would recommend buying food and supplies before you reach the hotel. Cocos is a few miles away (taxi ride was 3,000 mil) each way. The only restaurant was very cool but very commercialized and caters to expats. And...it was expensive. Was hoping for a traditional Soda with traditional Casados

The room was great, the pool was awesome, the dogs / cats are cute and the kitchen has everything you need if you want to cook. Ocotal beach and beach bar is stunning! Our hosts were super friendly, helpful and interesting to talk to. We had an amazing few days enjoying the area (having your own car is recommended to help get around). Peaceful bliss!
