We were disappoined in Tamarindo ~ it felt like a tourist trap with all the sidewalk tour booths. We went snorkeling with one of the booths by the beach which was definitely NOT worth it as there was absoluately nothing to see. We discovered Native Way & booked a tour to the Estuary which was excellent compared to another guest who booked from the booths by the beaches. I also heard many of them are scams as they want a deposit which will be the last you'll hear ofthem. We would recommend Native Way if you want to book any tours. We were disappointed becaue Tarmarindo was more expensive than we expected. There were only a few "shops" that were not filled with "souvenirs" that were probably not even made there. Go to the Night Market on Thursday or Farmer's Market on Saturday for unique gifts made by local artisans. Food at Restaurants were good but not the prices. We recommend Tabu & Pico Bistro. Pangas is over rated... food was so so but atmosopshere was out of this world.

Excellent villa but disapointed with the reception.
Excellent villa but disapointed with the reception. We told them we were arriving at 1 and when we did they said we had to come back at 3 - why ask what time we coming then? They gave us the keys and the map on check-in but noone took us to the villa to show us around and tell us how everything worked. So off to a bad start. I am sure the owner thinks they are paying for a better service to be delivered. The villa itself had everything you need and was comforatable and clean. Cleainng staff were very good. Travelling around Hacienda Pinilla at night is challenging as no street light and easy to get confused (we did) - OK afer a couple of days and you know your way around. Good restaurants at the Marriot. Need a car to go anywhere.

Everything is walking distance.. lots of shops and restaurants to choose from. Love that you can walk the beach to anywhere and also access the town from the beach. Lots of different food options. Town is small but big considering and noisy with traffic but beautiful! A 5 to 7 day stay is good!

This was our 4th time in Tamarindo.
This was our 4th time in Tamarindo. We usually stay a couple nights at the beginning of our trip to pick up our car rental and then head south. This trip around we ate at La Palapa restaurant. We also LOVE eating at El Chiringuito. We had a great time hanging out on the patio of Handle Bars where they have great craft beer and people watching!

Tamarindo was a busy tourist town when i visited in January.
Tamarindo was a busy tourist town when i visited in January. And every body seems to rent car so even this small town has its traffic jams. The people are friendly. There were some sketchy guys offering the usual sketchy stuff but a simple no worked and I never felt unsafe. Lots of great food, farmers market on Saturday morning and craft market on Thursday evening are a must-see. Restaurant and tour prices are not cheap. Buy basics like sunscreen in advance. The country's commitment to environmental issues is outstanding however be prepared for open grey water ditches that come with a musty smell. Also you need to keep your eyes open walking around as there can be unexpected potholes and hazards like open drains.
But overall a nice vibrant little town. Well worth the stay.
Diria was absolutely amazing. Our travel plans got a bit messed up (our airlines fault) and we were only able to stay here one night. We then went to Occidental Tamarindo for two nights and the experience was not nearly as nice. Occidental was all inclusive, so a bit more expensive, but Diria was soooo much nicer. The staff was incredible, the facilities were beautiful, the beach was impeccable and the location is literally unbeatable.
My partner and I will definitely be returning and will only stay at the Diria Hotel.
I travel a lot and I don't think I've met friendlier or more helpful hosts at this hotel. Due to a shortage of rental cars throughout Costa Rica, I was without transportation when I arrived at the hotel. Jeffrey and Shirley gave me a ride to downtown Tamarindo and even took time from their busy schedule to provide a personal tour of the town. Shirley even arranged an Uber taxi for me to travel to my next stop at Coco Beach. They are renovating the hotel and it is now modern, clean and reasonably priced.
I’m from Costa Rica and I must say, this is the most beautiful place I’ve ever been to. Not only the place is beautiful, but also the people. Tibo and Sana are such great hosts. They really care about you and make you feel at home. I recommend this place 100%, you will never regret it.
Tibo, Sana, thank you so much for the great hospitality. We were very happy while we stayed at Les Voiles Blanches. We are definitely coming back again!
P.S. Do not miss trying the breakfast, it is AMAZING!
Hotel Marielos is in the best location, since it is across the street from the best surfing area of Tamarindo beach. The surf shop is right next door and 2 doors down is a great grocery store with daily delivery of fresh french baguettes and delicious chocolate croissants. You would love the hotel for it's wildlife living in the compound: Howler monkeys, iguanas, birds, free range chickens. We enjoyed the firm beds, air conditioning, and warm showers.
Our stay at Villa Maj was phenomenal! The property is beautiful and Kayla and Cory are super helpful and friendly. Traveling with children can be tough at times, but our week in Costa Rica was easy & enjoyable!! Both of my daughters loved the pool, the extended shallow end is really fun. Our casita had everything we needed for our stay - the king size bed was great for our family. We will definitely be back!
Amazing B&B just outside of Tamarindo, you can rest in the quiet property but get to all of the local beaches and restaurants really easily. Their homemade breakfast was fantastic and they brought it to our front porch, and they were incredibly attentive and helpful during our stay. When, not if, we come back to Costa Rica, we will definitely stop by again.
Highly recommended, one of the only places Ive stayed in Costa Rica where you get what you pay for!
Lovely friendly and helpful staff
Spacious comfortable rooms
Amazing big shower with hot AND water cold taps, good pressure :)
Breakfast included too which the other places I stayed for the same price had only cold water tap in shower and no breakfast!
This was a very nice resort hotel in tamarindo. It’s great for recovering after all the hiking and sightseeing in Costa Rica. The grounds are beautiful and there are plenty of monkeys and animals in the trees. The 3 pool areas are great and getting a sunbed is not a problem. You can get an Uber to the airport which is 10 minutes away.
We had a great stay here! The pool and the grounds were beautifully kept. Richard was welcoming and helpful. The location was great-- we were close to lots of great restaurants and shopping. Tamarindo is one of my favorite spots in Costa Rica, and this hotel was a really great value for its location and its beautiful surroundings!
The room was clean, comfortable, and quiet. Staff exceeded all my expectations and the hotel made it easy to meet other travelers. The weather was very hot in Tamarindo, and the hotel's pool was a great way to cool off. AC and a mini fridge was also a relief to the extreme weather. I would definitely stay again!
Beautiful, chilled out hotel. Great location. Spacious, clean room and bed really comfortable. Relaxing pool area and tasty, varied breakfast. Even seen howler monkeys and raccoons outside back of hotel in the trees. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Would recommend as a base to explore Tamarindo.
The location was perfectly located right on the beach and by the Main Street of restaurants and bars. We stayed in bungalow 10 and it was so comfortable for our group of 4! This hotel made a lasting memory on our trip to Tamarindo!
Hotel was new and clean, pool was lovely. Breakfast was amazing, the best hotel breakfast we had in the whole of our stay in Costa Rica. Owner of the hotel was also lovely and helpful too. Highly recommend
Nice pool, seems to be clean and not too much chlorine. And the beds are really super comfortable! the shower has hot water too, never had that before in Costa Rica!
