Great and friendly owner, beautiful garden. Calming place.
Montezuma is such a great place. So chilled, the locals are so welcoming and it just does its own thing. There are a number of good places to eat in the very small town so try everywhere out especially in the farthest reaches of town. And shop around for trips. There can be quite a difference in price with the different outlets.
During turtle hatching season, be sure to go to the beach to the left of the town and you'll see them dug up and then marching to the sea. It's a heartwarming and unique experience. Also, go back to that beach at night to see the most wonderful stars.

Small but charming and lively resort.
Small but charming and lively resort. Excellent restaurants (particularly fish dishes in 'los Artesanos') and cafes and very easy to book tours through local operators. Crashing rollers and risk of dangerous riptides made swimming somewhat risky, though ideal for surfers. A 40 minute walk along beachside path to north brings you to the magnificent beach of Playa Grande where swimming is a little safer, if not risk-free. A short walk to the south is Montezuma waterfall; it's a must-see although access requires proper footwear and some scrambling/rope work. Swimming in the refreshing pool and launching oneself from the adjacent rocks beneath the falls is highly recommended; not so, climbing up the slippery rocks immediately adjacent to the waterfall as exhibited by some foolhardy locals!

This is a very welcoming place made with a thought for the guests and their comfort! It has everything you need for a top experience, the team was perfect - they take care of all you may need, so you can simply be and enjoy life at the Montezuma beaches! Having the option to cook your own meal, makes it perfect for families with children, but very near-by there are also good restaurants - from 5 stars ones to the simple Sodas - and if you can - dont miss the Soda (Artesanos) nearby, the food there was superb and the prices - surprising in a good way!

It's a very small village, but it has its vibe.
It's a very small village, but it has its vibe. Moreover, there are many things to do around: hiking, surfing, swimming, watching bioluminescence, trip to the Isla de Tortuga is also possible.
There are plenty of beaches around, which are within walking distance.
Despite its size, there are a few very decent restaurants where I would like to go back.
If you are not looking for a crazy party place, it's a fantastic spot for a vacation.

Montezuma is a beautiful place!
Montezuma is a beautiful place! People are rather friendly and there are a lot of different travelers from all over the world. There is often live music and the environment is rather lively! Is possible to go hiking to the Montezuma Waterfalls, or for a delightful walk to Playa Grande :)
It is a long way to get here, but I really think Montezuma is a special gem!

Montezuma is for the adventurous traveler who wants to avoid crowded beaches and more developed areas. It’s a bit like a small town that time forgot, but it has all the essentials—except an ATM machine. Bring cash! Most stores & restaurants/bars accept credit cards but our hotel did not. Also local street vendors need cash. If you are driving, make sure to use the WAYZ app; Google maps will lead you through rivers. We found the hike to the Montezuma Water Falls to be a bit too daunting for our age/physical capacity and we’re in pretty good shape in our mid-60s. We enjoyed the day-trip to Turtle Island to go snorkeling. Many other options, such as horse-back riding on the beach and fishing trips are also available for a cost.
Owners seem nice, accommodatin, helpful. Rooms are so small and although bed mattress are ok. You have only have 3 clothes hooks on a wall, and a lonely little shelve. Good thing is, it's very near Montezuma Beach and Montezuma Falls as well. But there are better options nearby for nearly $10 usd less per night, with more accommodations exclusively in the rooms; not in a shared facility. And not only that, but located right on the beach TOO!
We had a very good time at Aves Hotel. It is a great spot from where to explore beautiful Montezuma. The hotel is up the hill, a very short drive from the village center. The owner and his team were all very attentive and made us feel at home. The girls loved the pools. it wasn’t always easy to convince them to leave the hotel.
This is the place to stay in Montezuma. It is a private property up in the Heights which means you get an amazing view.
The cabins are secluded and private but stepping outside you imediately have hummingbirds feeding on all the flowers the owners have planted. It is a great spot for your day trips out exploring.
Montezuma is beautiful. Luminosa is simple, a great spot for backpackers. The staff works hard to keep it clean, but it's next to the ocean, so it's a challenge. The room I had was nice, I met cool new people. The small town and waterfall were well worth the stay, as well as listening to the waves at night.
The Stuff was super friendly and helpful. The location amazing in the jungle. There is a Bus going Downtown and it stops directly on the Mainstreet where the sideway to the Hotel is. My Room was clean and big. There is a Hamrock on your terrace which i really loved.
Staff were super friendly and helpful. Breakfast at the restaurant was wonderful. Breakfast bowl smoothie was the best. And had the best nights sleep in the massive King size bed.
Access to the pool at Ylang Ylang hotel was the cherry on the cake!
The hotel is located in a primo spot right downtown Montezuma. The property is gorgeous with multiple levels of pools. The rooms are simple but clean with nice wood decor. Theres a great area with a hammock to hang out in right by your room.
I liked the style of the building (paired back colonial), the swimming pool which was a nice size and salt water with a great outdoor shower, the grounds, the balcony with hammock. It was a nice little hotel, perfect for a romantic stay.
Great location overlooking the beach. Close to waterfalls and great restaurants nearby. Montezuma is lovely and chill. Spacious, clean room. Very kind and friendly staff. No breakfast but lots of lovely places seconds away from property
A cosy and clean wooden house in the jungle, only five minutes walk away from the centre of Montezuma town. The staff was really friendly and always helpful. I wish I could have stayed even longer! Nice breakfast too!
We ate at the hotel restaurant. We were the only family dining but they had a chef and waiter on hand. I had the good fortune to enjoy a fish fillet of snook, which was wonderful. The sushi was excellent as well.
the hotel has the most beautiful setting and grounds. it offers well place hammocks and lounging chairs around the property adding to an inspiring ambiance! the staff were very pleasant and lovely to speak with.
We stayed for 3 nights in Montezuma and had a gorgeous time at this hotel ! Nice, big rooms with a daily room service! The location is at the beach and directly in town, but still quiet. We loved it !
This was the best hotel of my whole trip in CR. Excellent breakfast and great facilities and service! Its just a few walking minutes away from the beach and at the end of the village.
A lovely location in the hills above Montezuma. The restaurant and dining area were beautifully situated. It was clean and well maintained with lots of character.
Blanca is an amazing host and such a friendly person. The house is more of a "home-stay" than a hotel and you really feel like you're a part of the culture there.
