Samara is a funky little beach town with lots of little eateries and shops, and a number of restaurants right on the beach undercover with enough variety to make it interesting. There were also enough activities and beaches in the area to enjoy.

This is a great little town with a beautiful beach and yummy food options. We wish we could have spent more time here to explore the different restaurants a bit more. We hope to come back soon! We also really enjoyed the neighboring beach of Carrillo, which we drove to - but it didn't have food options the way Samara did.

A wonderful walkable town with many restaurants, excellent couple massages, friendly community, and beautiful beaches. I did the Warner preserve tour with a native Samarian - he was EXCELLENT - a fantastic visit. My husband and I are thinking about coming back and staying much longer. The community seems very low key - just the right pace for us :)

Very easy to get around.
Very easy to get around. Everything is close and you feel safe walking there. Very friendly local people.
I would recommend checking out the restaurants Las Olas, AhoraSi, Mana, Malehu coffee shop, L'Ulvio, and the Saturday local market.

The beach and ocean are beautiful.
The beach and ocean are beautiful. There are lots of restaurants and fun bars to have a drink. The city government has to work harder at keeping the town clean. Sidewalks, store fronts and some restaurants need to be improved, there were so many flies at one of the restaurants where we ate, that we ended up having to leave. There is very limited parking, there should be a place where excursion buses can park further away from town, it feels chaotic.

Samara is a beautiful beach town on the West Coast of Costa Rica. It was our first time visiting and we were very impressed with how beautiful and safe the area is. We expect to be returning many times in the future with our adult kids and their partners.
The Town itself has everything you need to visit, enjoy and live here. Every place we visited was exceptional and the staff very professional!
Our hotel was a pleasure to stay at. A small place with everything you need to have a wonderful experience. I fully recommend Bellavista Suites by Villas Verdes for a great time.
Laura is a brilliant host and the location is stunning. She’s has created a little slice of heaven up on the top of a mountain. Yes you will def need a 4x4 and the roads are very ‘Costa rican’ but what awaits is truly worth it. The food - from breakfast to the dinner options were really nice.
Laura went out of her way to help us with her onward travel and we can’t thank her enough.
There is also 3 lovely friendly dogs, 2 cats and a pig called Brad Pig. What more could you really ask for…
The location was excellent, five minute walk to one of the nicest beach’s in Costa Rica. we stayed in the “Bungalow” which was a stand alone unit with full fridge and stove, we did not make us of the stove as there are a few great restaurants within a few minutes walk. there are also two small “grocery” stores close by. the breakfast that Millie served each morning was excellent, 4 or 5 different options, I think I had them all! we would not hesitate to stay here again!
This hostel is in the heart of Sámara, great location. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Nothing fancy just a good room for the price and can walk to everything. 7 minute walk to the beach. Grocery stores across the street and restaurants all around you. Go on the dolphin tour, for $50 US it was four hours long. We watched dolphins for over half and hour then we watched 8 humpbacks for about 35 to 40 mins, it was amazing!!!!!
I liked everything. The style, you really feel in Costa Rica with the plants around, wooden balconies, birds singing, etc. It's relaxing. Very cute private single room with private bathroom, balcony and hammock. Super clean, there's everything to cook, good free coffee, clean beautiful pool, very welcoming and helpful staff. One of the best hotels I have been to in Costa Rica. I would certainly come back and for many nights.
We absolutely loved our stay here and would highly recommend it! The hotel is the best we saw in Costa Rica and one of the best overall. It is a small family-owned hotel. New, beautifully and smartly designed, with beautiful pools, friendly owners and staff, an amazing tasty breakFast. The absolute highlight was our room with a tropical shower. Beautiful and peaceful beach is located in 7 mins walk from the hotel
We live in Costa Rica and escape to Samara as often as possible. We have stayed Casa Maiana for many years under prior and found the new owners Thierry and Christina to be gracious, welcoming and available to answer any questions you have. Casa Maiana is perfectly located for discovering Samara on foot - close to the beach, restaurants, cafes and supermarkets but off the beaten path and quiet. Highly recommend!
By far, our favorite place to stay in Costa Rica! A perfect oasis, a true garden of eden. Not only were the grounds kept perfectly and the bungalows gorgeous, but Emma and her sweet family made it feel like home. The pool area was also so wonderful and peaceful, lots of cozy little nooks to chill out in and birds and iguanas everywhere. If I could give it 6 stars I would! Highly recommend!!!
The property is beautiful. The only reason to stay here is location. Right on the beach is a wonderful thing. Staff are so welcoming and kind. Being able to use the next hotels, Lo Canda, restaurant for breakfast and their pool was the highlight of our stay besides the location. I will book there next visit.
Very well located hotel in Samara. You get a sense that you are staying in a traditional Costa Rican lodging here not only because of the decor but the friendly hosts. Danielle and Luis are very friendly as are the housekeeping staff. Close to restaurants, shops, Samara beach and bus stop.
Everything Really, the staff is very nice, the location was fabulous, the rooms are big and spacious, big bed, nice shower. In Costa Rica we are only into local food... This hotel has also a italian restaurant, the plates looked amazing...we didn't have dinner but the smell was amazing...
It’s just Minutes to drive from Samara beach , has a beautiful secret beach that is about a 20 minute walk through the jungle with only a handful of people at sunset , swimming at 11 pm , well equipped kitchen , outdoor shower, swimming pool and staff.
it’s a gem, a hidden gem. This is the best spot in Costa Rica to truly be on holiday. the fields and grounds there are beautiful, the food is great and cheap. the owner Reiner is a very fun and musical guy. It’s a great experience to be there.
The room and share areas like the pool were clean. They offer pool and beach towel which is convenient for light packers. Also there is a very good Italian restaurant in the first floor were you get 20% off if you are staying in the hotel.
secluded hotel with private patios, very close to the beach, but still quiet at night. lots of beautiful plants and wildlife right at your doorstep. breakfast was very good (available 7-930 for $12USD). staff was very friendly and helpful
Lovely small comfortable hotel in a quiet location. Spacious rooms. Well located near the beach….albeit the quieter end of the beach away from central Samara. Near Playa Carillo which is also worth a visit…less touristy.
Bahia was one of the best places we stayed at in Costa Rica. The location, the vibes, the staff, the services, everything was up to our expectations. We can only recommend it to anyone who is visiting Samara.
Very nice quiet, small resort in beautiful area, with very friendly staff, good breakfast , nice room. The best , we think, is the warm attention they have for their guests.
Best place, so far, in Costa Rica.
Great installations, amazing breakfast. Highly advise getting detaled instructions BEFORE setting out to this place. We are Costa Rican and still had to ask the owner to come out and get us.
The place is wonderful ! , nice decoration, super clean, front beach , you have the beach at 20 feet from the hotel. excellent jacuzzi , big pool, fancy restaurant.
