Hotel Nya, hotel in Montezuma

Nya is a design hotel encased in a tropical garden that merges into the jungle of Montezuma with.

Such a pleasant turn of events. We ended up at Hotel Nya for one night last minute after booking at another hotel in the area that was just a bit too noisy and hot for our 2-month-old infant. I had seen the property before and thought it was stunning, but was nervous to book a typical hotel stay (sharing walls with others) with an unpredictable, potentially crying, infant. Hotel Nya was able to accommodate us last minute and allowed us to enjoy the pool facilities while we waited for our room to be ready. I wasn't sure how baby-friendly a property this nice would be, but they provided a travel crib, left some milk in the fridge, and even had a kiddie pool and toys next to the main pool. Great water pressure, comfortable bed, great AC. The property feels very boutique and was mostly young couples and one other young family. The location is just minutes from the Montezuma waterfalls and Montezuma Beach but still feels very lush, private, and part of the natural surroundings. Though we loved our visit to Santa Teresa, Montezuma felt like a much more authentic Costa Rican town. We had one of our best wildlife experiences of the trip here when we were treated to both Capuchin and Howler monkeys swinging from the trees at dusk-- right outside our room! We watched them play for half an hour from our balcony. I would have loved to have had more time to explore the trails on the property. We ate dinner at the hotel restaurant, Ubin, which was one of the best meals I ate during our week in Costa Rica. (Get the sea bass.) Even though it's a very upscale experience, we never felt uncomfortable when our baby was a bit fussy during the meal. Breakfast at the restaurant (included in our stay) was also delicious. We would absolutely stay here again if we returned.

You must have a car to get around to the beaches of Montezuma and the roads are rough. Grocery stores are hard to find if you want to cook at all in your rented villa. Ocean super warm and wonderful--loved Tambor beach. Wonderful fresh fish market there.

Very small town with little to do. 3-5 nights is more than enough time to see the area. Tourists (and locals) on loud motorbikes and ATVs are everywhere day and night. Not the quiet jungle getaway we imagined.

Montezuma is such a great place.

Montezuma is such a great place. So chilled, the locals are so welcoming and it just does its own thing. There are a number of good places to eat in the very small town so try everywhere out especially in the farthest reaches of town. And shop around for trips. There can be quite a difference in price with the different outlets. During turtle hatching season, be sure to go to the beach to the left of the town and you'll see them dug up and then marching to the sea. It's a heartwarming and unique experience. Also, go back to that beach at night to see the most wonderful stars.

Small but charming and lively resort.

Small but charming and lively resort. Excellent restaurants (particularly fish dishes in 'los Artesanos') and cafes and very easy to book tours through local operators. Crashing rollers and risk of dangerous riptides made swimming somewhat risky, though ideal for surfers. A 40 minute walk along beachside path to north brings you to the magnificent beach of Playa Grande where swimming is a little safer, if not risk-free. A short walk to the south is Montezuma waterfall; it's a must-see although access requires proper footwear and some scrambling/rope work. Swimming in the refreshing pool and launching oneself from the adjacent rocks beneath the falls is highly recommended; not so, climbing up the slippery rocks immediately adjacent to the waterfall as exhibited by some foolhardy locals!

This is a very welcoming place made with a thought for the guests and their comfort! It has everything you need for a top experience, the team was perfect - they take care of all you may need, so you can simply be and enjoy life at the Montezuma beaches! Having the option to cook your own meal, makes it perfect for families with children, but very near-by there are also good restaurants - from 5 stars ones to the simple Sodas - and if you can - dont miss the Soda (Artesanos) nearby, the food there was superb and the prices - surprising in a good way!

It's a very small village, but it has its vibe.

It's a very small village, but it has its vibe. Moreover, there are many things to do around: hiking, surfing, swimming, watching bioluminescence, trip to the Isla de Tortuga is also possible. There are plenty of beaches around, which are within walking distance. Despite its size, there are a few very decent restaurants where I would like to go back. If you are not looking for a crazy party place, it's a fantastic spot for a vacation.

Great Hotel. Noisy Room. I hate to give this hotel anything but a 10 rating as the hotel, staff and location were excellent. But the constant noise in our room detracted from the stay. The hotel property is quite gorgeous with a stunning garden/lawn area backing on to equally beautiful oceanfront. The grounds are immaculately kept, the breakfast was fresh, hot and tasty and the service from all staff was exceptional. The rooms that face the ocean (away from the road) and on the top floor are sure to avoid the issues we had.

We had a rental car, so the location was great ( it is a steep distance from town, so it's quite a walk otherwise). The staff were great, pool phenomenal, and breakfast was wonderful. The room we had over looking the forest and looking towards the ocean was beautiful. Room/bed are extremely comfortable. Coffee in room a plus. The hotel also has trails on the property you can walk around. Photos did not do the property justice, so it's always nice to have things over exceed your expectations.

I love Ticozuma. This room was for a friend visiting from the states who wanted air conditioning, which worked very well. The room was cozy and comfortable. Had great wifi, which he used to make calls home. Great forest views from the balcony or the seating area near the stairs, also with wifi. Howler monkeys in the trees right off the balcony. He didn’t use the pool, but it looked great for a dip and a place to catch some sun. The hotel is family run with friendly helpful staff.

After staying in a rundown hotel in Montezuma, we changed for sunshine sanctuary. We were pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness and amazing sea view of the place. The breakfast was good ( coffee , fruit plate , French toast , eggs). The owner, Anastacia, was warm and friendly. There is a private hanging bridge to Montezuma (15 mins walk) .If you are staying in Montezuma, come here instead of staying in town !

The hotel was fantastic! It was a serene, calm oasis with a laid-back feel to it. The rooms are basic but comfy with the addition of a lovely balcony with hammock. The pool is AMAZING - it was super hot whilst we were there so we spent most of our days at the hotel then when down to Montezuma in the late afternoon. Breakfast was really yummy and served on the open terrace everyday.

I met many friendly people in my short time here. A social hostel in an extraordinary location. Right by the beach and walking distance to town. Affordable and comfortable. If you’re here you have to try the soda across the street! If you’re visiting from San Jose, plan for a day of travel. I took 2 buses and a ferry and got to Montezuma in ~8 hours. Glad I made the trip!

You hear the sea in every corner of the hotel, even in the rooms. The location is great, close to beach and in walking distance to all Montezuma „highlights“. The breakfast choices were great, too. The yoga space is superb, and available to use (but you‘d need your own mat). You see a lot of animals.
