The location within the valley was great, with short walks through the neighborhood to other areas full of birds. There was a very good restaurant about 100 meters away and a well furnished kitchen.
The beds were comfortable and everything was very clean, and sitting on the verandah drinking our morning coffee or a glass of wine in the afternoon listening to and watching the birds was very relaxing and pleasant.
There were panederias, restaurants and markets within easy walking distance of the property.

Absolutely gorgeous area and a must-see for nature lovers!
Absolutely gorgeous area and a must-see for nature lovers! Tenorio National Park was wonderful, although quite crowded, so get there as early as possible. I highly recommend the hanging bridges trail at the Heliconias lodge because it was incredible and hardly anyone was there. We also got to see toucans on the road up there.

The town is essentially a series of businesses along Rte 6, a major road heading North/South. It’s about 1 mile in length. Beautiful vistas coming from the south and heading between the 2 volcanoes of Tenorio and Miravalles. The town is not picturesque but it’s surroundings are. Besides hiking to the waterfall and the lagoon of Rio Celeste, which is an amazing color, there’s not a lot to do (or not a lot to do that you haven’t done elsewhere in CR). For bird watchers, Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge and its boat tours on the river and lake come highly recommended. 2 nights of accommodations is good for most people. We stayed at Finca La Amistad, a working cacao farm, which I highly recommend. Bucolic surroundings, great owner and staff, nice accommodations and a nice chocolate tour makes it a great place to stay.

Great little hike, we were happy to have Jose, as our guide.
Great little hike, we were happy to have Jose, as our guide. He was very knowledgeable and fun. We only wished his english or our spanish were better! We saw lovely birds, including scarlet macaws, a bat, monkeys, lizards. The park has 2 access points and the unofficial one was better as it was more natural and you didn't hear traffic noise.

Be prepared for daily rain squalls even in "dry" season.
Be prepared for daily rain squalls even in "dry" season. Great cloud-forest hiking, especially to Catarata Bijagua--not many wild animals, but plenty of beautiful forests, rushing river, and waterfalls. In Bijagua, Restaurante/Pizzeria El Barrigon -- popular with locals as well as tourists -- has good-value casados.

Great lodges in wonderful garden with ponds, many birds , frogs, plants and trees. Fantastic host Victor who is most friendly, his wife also cooks great dinners and serves healthy breakfasts. Not far from national PARC and the lesser known but wonderful canu negro
The pictures of this property do not do it justice. It is stunning. There was a family of howler monkeys right on the property. If you love nature and wildlife, this is the place for you!! The home was clean and Kamal and Bertha were excellent hosts. They provided many recommendations for activities around the property and we were very happy with all their suggestions. This property is in a great location if you want to visit Rio Celeste waterfall, sloths tours and chocolate tours. I highly recommend this property.
This was the first place we stayed after we landed in Liberia. We wanted to see Rio Celeste before heading to Arenal and La Fortuna area. We were the only guests for that one day/night - it was green/low season (me, my husband and young daughter were traveling), and Frank was so hospitable and kind. We enjoyed our short stay so much. The room was very beautiful and it felt like you were in the middle of all the gorgeous nature that surrounded you. Would definitely recommend this to anyone traveling in this area.
This is hidden gem, family who runs this place is amazing and since you feel like part of this home, such a precious traveling experience,it's not really like your ordinary hostel it's more like staying with family in their house.Despite place being little bit put of the main touristy paths(even better no) there is plenty to do,famous Rio Celeste hike, check the Tapir valley tours, hot springs on Rio Negro reachable in hour and half as well, definitely recommend this place,i had wonderful time, thank you!!
The manager Johnny one of the nicest persons we met very helpful and accomodating, gave us tips and information regarding activities and upgraded us to 2 rooms instead of 1as the place was empty. The rooms are very big although simple. Warm water not working very well. Overall we had a nice time at this place but the price was really steep for the conditions, a nice and friendly hostel at best. Stayed in 4 star hotels with lots of amenities for much less...
We had a wonderful stay with Luzbeth and family! They were so welcoming and friendly. The garden is a peaceful oasis full of beautiful flowers and plants that have been lovingly cared for by the owners. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful.
We loved the nighttime frog walk and cacao demonstration and great conversations with our hosts!
We enjoyed getting to know the Bijagua area, including a great walking tour at Frog's Paradise!
This hotel is a real gem, tucked away on a hillside near Tenorio Volcano. The grounds are beautiful and the public areas are very comfortable. The food was excellent and the owner is very helpful and interesting. There are trails through the gardens and into the jungle across the street from the property. They put out fruit for the birds, so the tree in front of the big windows that open are always full of beautiful birds.
Cecile's breakfast was always wonderful. And so lovely to enjoy it with views of their incredible garden. The best homemade bread!!!
The property is stunning and the pool was great for relaxing and cooling off after long hikes exploring the rain forest around Bijagua. Plus the fact that you can get a delicious dinner delivered from local restaurants and in a timely manor made it perfect!
It is a lovely finca which provides the experience as indicated - outdoors, chocolate making, comfortable cabins, surrounded by nature, close to The national park, Rio Celeste and a beautiful waterfall. The staff was very helpful with tour information as well as serving delicious home cooked breakfasts and dinner. We (a family of 7) enjoyed our stay and experience there.
Incredible setting with great views, lovely gardens, and a very unique property / eco-lodge concept.
Wonderful open common sitting and eating area. Friendly staff. Clean and comfortable rooms.
Joel has done an excellent job with the property and I would highly recommend staying here as a base to explore nearby Rio Celeste! The dinner (extra) was excellent.
Beautiful location, basic but comfortable accommodation in lovely gardens, with wildlife in abundance. Staff were welcoming and very helpful - organising a fabulous tubing trip for us which was great fun. Pool was lovely. Restaurant next door served good value local food. Breakfast at hotel was a bonus - all in all a relaxing and good value stay.
We loved La Finca Amistad Cacao Lodge. Nicely located closed to Tenorio park. The staff were incredibly nice and helpful and the lunch, dinner and breakfast were delicious. This is the best part of our trip with the cacao tour, chocolate making and jacuzzi time! We highly recommend to stay at least 2 nights!!
The rooms was breathtaking! Great beds, the option to take an outside or inside shower (both are ' in' the room), a great pool with several hot tubs (each their own temperature), a game room to enjoy time with the family (from Jenga to pool to chess to Uno) and walking distance to Rio Celeste.
The hotel and its amenities was fantastic. This is a cloud forest area, with two fun trails on their property. It is close to many other destinations/parks to enjoy. The town of Bijagua is right there and has everything.
The trail is awesome. The other hotel we tried had a trail as a checklist kind of item that was not very long or very interesting. Heliconias trail is awesome. The hanging bridge...Not so much. The view was also great.
The room was comfortable and clean with a 'frig and AC. The apartment is a bit hard to find, especially since we arrived at night. Pull in to a small, grassy driveway area right by the Rio Celeste Dreams sign.
- Delicious “traditional” breakfast.
- Supernice and supportive owners.
- Great location for visiting Tenorio park and close by bathing spot at Rio Celeste.
The family that hosts the property were agreeable and offered to assist me in contacting other helpful persons in the Bijagua area. Very pleasant people.
