Samara is a fairly busy small town that has a lovely beach.
Samara is a fairly busy small town that has a lovely beach. There are many other beaches nearby. It has quite a few restaurants and cafes to choose from. Lots of great fish. Prices are "reasonable" by comparison with some fancier locations along the coast, but all prices in US dollars are high for Canadians.
Just two hours from Liberia airport, this town has a laid back feel. Not sure how long that will last.

Samara is a funky little beach town with lots of little eateries and shops, and a number of restaurants right on the beach undercover with enough variety to make it interesting. There were also enough activities and beaches in the area to enjoy.

This is a great little town with a beautiful beach and yummy food options. We wish we could have spent more time here to explore the different restaurants a bit more. We hope to come back soon! We also really enjoyed the neighboring beach of Carrillo, which we drove to - but it didn't have food options the way Samara did.

A wonderful walkable town with many restaurants, excellent couple massages, friendly community, and beautiful beaches. I did the Warner preserve tour with a native Samarian - he was EXCELLENT - a fantastic visit. My husband and I are thinking about coming back and staying much longer. The community seems very low key - just the right pace for us :)

Very easy to get around. Everything is close and you feel safe walking there. Very friendly local people.
I would recommend checking out the restaurants Las Olas, AhoraSi, Mana, Malehu coffee shop, L'Ulvio, and the Saturday local market.

The beach and ocean are beautiful.
The beach and ocean are beautiful. There are lots of restaurants and fun bars to have a drink. The city government has to work harder at keeping the town clean. Sidewalks, store fronts and some restaurants need to be improved, there were so many flies at one of the restaurants where we ate, that we ended up having to leave. There is very limited parking, there should be a place where excursion buses can park further away from town, it feels chaotic.
The rooms were clean, very comfortable, and the staff was amazing. They went over and beyond to help make my stay enjoyable. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Samara. The staff (Cedric and Beatrix) at this property are all great! They all go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable. Las Perilitas is one of the best hotels in Samara. The best hotel I’ve ever been privileged enough to stay at. I have stayed at dozen of hotels in Costa Rica. This was on the top of the list of best stays/experiences ever. Pura-Vida.
The owners were so personable as well as all the staff! They arranged an amazing turtle excursion for us where we saw hundreds of turtles hatching. Absolutely amazing! We were greeted on the first day of opening after being closed for Sept/Oct, we were surprised with an upgraded room. Our Casita was spectacular with an outdoor shower! The grounds are one of the prettiest we've seen in Costa Rica, lots of animals visiting us, raccoons and coatis. The pool was refreshing and there was a trail from the property to a secret beach.
What can we say....you have a property where almost every imaginable detail is taken into consideration. it's a new, modern build. Rooms all are comfortable and have air conditioning. Shower's great, mattress is great, pillows are great (these are always issues in Costa Rica). Having a small soaker pool on the property was a great way to spend our afternoon after we went dolphin watching. We spent 3 nights here and wished it could have been 5. Would recommend to everyone.
EVERYTHING, Good Life Lodge was by far our absolute favorite place we've stayed in Costa Rica. Holger greeted us with a smile and cold beer when we arrived, I mean what more can you ask for! Every morning the fresh hot coffee waiting for us on our patio was delicious. The location is quite and beautiful. The rooms large, sparkling clean and very comfortable. At the end of our stay Holger presented us with bracelets to remember our stay, we will cherish them.
- Great, super friendly host Nathan and assistant Josue (who also offers photography services)
- Exceptional dinner (fresh, grilled tuna) and breakfast - best food we had in our whole trip through Costa Rica.. Try it!
- we received many helpful tipps from Nathan for the local area and Costa Rica in general
- very modern, spotless clean rooms with plenty of space and comfortable king-size bed
- Awesome sea view from pool and the bungalow's terraces)
Garden: well-maintained with beautiful flowers. my wife really likes.
Shower and bath room: very large space.
Beach: it is located rip current. but we enjoyed sitting down in front of the beach. The hotel provides several shade between trees. we moved the beach chairs to one of them and enjoyed a relaxing time.
Breakfast: basic but enough and tasty. we can choose one from 4 options
Restaurant: no restaurant for lunch and dinner.
I loved my stay at Casa Terra! Samara was my first destination in Costa Rica, and the trip was my first as a solo female traveller. Andres and team made me feel welcomed, safe and included in the Casa Terra family. The dorms and kitchen are simple but clean. The common space out fun is really nice and perfect for socializing with others. Best part is the location, which is close to everything one needs: grocery store, soda & beach.
Beautiful location in the jungle just 100 yards from a beach. Beautiful Carrillo beach was a very short drive away. The restaurant was very good. All staff spoke excellent English and were very attentive. The room was spacious and had nice seating. We saw iguanas, 20 howler monkeys and several macaws from our hotel. Be sure to walk to the beach for sunset!
We stayed in the bungalow. It was newly built, beautiful grounds/pool, well decorated and very clean. The staff are super nice and helpful. Playa Carrillo is one of the nicest, cleanest beaches in Costa Rica. playa carillo is a not super touristy area and a great place to unwind. only a few restaurants it’s a bit we highly recommend
The family who run the hotel are so warm, friendly and helpful, they gave us excellent advice and help with trips, taxis and transport. The hotel was relaxing and peaceful and the room was comfortable and clean. The position was perfect, near Carillo beach which is quieter than Samara but you are within easy distance for a visit.
The stay at this hotel was beyond exceptional! Bridgette, the host goes above and beyond to make sure your stay is everything you expected. The tranquil waterfall by the pool combined with the great breakfast, comfortable beds, clean rooms and proximity to town makes her place a MUST stay when in Samara.
it’s a gem, a hidden gem. This is the best spot in Costa Rica to truly be on holiday. the fields and grounds there are beautiful, the food is great and cheap. the owner Reiner is a very fun and musical guy. It’s a great experience to be there.
The room and share areas like the pool were clean. They offer pool and beach towel which is convenient for light packers. Also there is a very good Italian restaurant in the first floor were you get 20% off if you are staying in the hotel.
Location was perfect! Right at the beach, close to everything in Samara. Room was good and I was able to leave luggage safe with them on both arrival and departure days. The welcome drink and goodbye gift were really nice surprises!
Beautiful clean and full of nature! So many birds to watch from our balcony and the pool was always clean and a great addition to our stay. The bathroom was amazing and by far the best one we've had in Costa Rica so far! Pura vida!
One of the best hostels I stayed in Costa Rica. Great location, Value for Price and one of the best, well stocked kitchens out of the dozens of hostels I visited in Costa Rica. Very helpful and friendly staff.
Super lovely staff, great room and the most amazing breakfast ever. The chef was so lovely, giving us advice on where to go and what to do in the area. Really great experience in a lovely place of Costa Rica!
Everything was perfect. The owners were very friendly and helpful. I would choose this Lodge right again. It was our best accomodation in Costa Rica so far!
