The location within the valley was great, with short walks through the neighborhood to other areas full of birds. There was a very good restaurant about 100 meters away and a well furnished kitchen.
The beds were comfortable and everything was very clean, and sitting on the verandah drinking our morning coffee or a glass of wine in the afternoon listening to and watching the birds was very relaxing and pleasant.
There were panederias, restaurants and markets within easy walking distance of the property.

Absolutely gorgeous area and a must-see for nature lovers!
Absolutely gorgeous area and a must-see for nature lovers! Tenorio National Park was wonderful, although quite crowded, so get there as early as possible. I highly recommend the hanging bridges trail at the Heliconias lodge because it was incredible and hardly anyone was there. We also got to see toucans on the road up there.

The town is essentially a series of businesses along Rte 6, a major road heading North/South. It’s about 1 mile in length. Beautiful vistas coming from the south and heading between the 2 volcanoes of Tenorio and Miravalles. The town is not picturesque but it’s surroundings are. Besides hiking to the waterfall and the lagoon of Rio Celeste, which is an amazing color, there’s not a lot to do (or not a lot to do that you haven’t done elsewhere in CR). For bird watchers, Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge and its boat tours on the river and lake come highly recommended. 2 nights of accommodations is good for most people. We stayed at Finca La Amistad, a working cacao farm, which I highly recommend. Bucolic surroundings, great owner and staff, nice accommodations and a nice chocolate tour makes it a great place to stay.

Great little hike, we were happy to have Jose, as our guide.
Great little hike, we were happy to have Jose, as our guide. He was very knowledgeable and fun. We only wished his english or our spanish were better! We saw lovely birds, including scarlet macaws, a bat, monkeys, lizards. The park has 2 access points and the unofficial one was better as it was more natural and you didn't hear traffic noise.

Be prepared for daily rain squalls even in "dry" season.
Be prepared for daily rain squalls even in "dry" season. Great cloud-forest hiking, especially to Catarata Bijagua--not many wild animals, but plenty of beautiful forests, rushing river, and waterfalls. In Bijagua, Restaurante/Pizzeria El Barrigon -- popular with locals as well as tourists -- has good-value casados.

Great lodges in wonderful garden with ponds, many birds , frogs, plants and trees. Fantastic host Victor who is most friendly, his wife also cooks great dinners and serves healthy breakfasts. Not far from national PARC and the lesser known but wonderful canu negro
After 10 days in rainforest lodging we splurged for this hotel for our last nite. Frankly, it was worth twice the high price! Everything, the room, the grounds, the pools, the food, the staff are all Category Luxe. The great part is that the owners have maintained a Pura Vida rural atmosphere for what is a Five Star property. A neat trick. We even were provided a COVID testing service for re-entry into the US at a reasonable price and one hour turnaround. Ive traveled the world and been in many great places. This place scores in the top five.
- owner and staff was very nice and helpful
- nice eco lodge
- you should book breakfast or at least dinner, they cook with local sourced ingredients, how they prepare it - it’s fantastic!
- they have an own private trail that you can walk on (saw monkeys, birds & some more animals)
- place fits perfectly into the nature, no lights at night so if it’s not cloudy you can see the stars very good
- options to do a night tour on the private trail with a local guide :-)
- 5mins drive away from Rio Celeste National Park entrance
This was the first place we stayed after we landed in Liberia. We wanted to see Rio Celeste before heading to Arenal and La Fortuna area. We were the only guests for that one day/night - it was green/low season (me, my husband and young daughter were traveling), and Frank was so hospitable and kind. We enjoyed our short stay so much. The room was very beautiful and it felt like you were in the middle of all the gorgeous nature that surrounded you. Would definitely recommend this to anyone traveling in this area.
I had a perfect stay! The woman that owes the house is adorable, she was super kind and gave me a lot of useful information.
It was sparkling clean and very confy.
She also prepared a delicious breakfast for me.
Her daughter speaks perfect English and will help you if you want to book any tour.
Plus the location is perfect, in the town of Bijagua close by the road to the National park.
I strongly recommend!! 😁
It is very very good location to go to the natural park and view the light blue river.
Exceptional, we went walking, only 2 km, the route is a bit difficult but possible. You can see the river before getting to the park , and take photos and also you will know if the river is blue or not before going to the park.
The hotel is in a very beautiful enviroment, the room is very normal, to stay one or two nights.
Nice basic room, clean and comfy. Great location for Rio Celeste Waterfall, and the nearby frog's paradise. Highlight was just sitting on the porch though, with views of the mountain, watching humming birds and toucans and dozens of other colourful birds happy to come right up to the garden. Really enjoyed our brief stay here
The bungalow was beautiful inside and outside in a wonderful location. The warm hospitality of the hosts made our 3 night stay really special. We will be back for a longer stay. The location is ideal for exploring Tenorio NP and Rio Celeste area. It's about 3km from Bijagua on a good road.
The hosts are super friendly. They gave us great tips over breakfast and were always happy to help with anything we needed. They treated us like friends. The location is also great to visit Tenorio Park/Rio Celeste as it is all walking distance.
Run by a lovely family who have built the cabins and grown the garden from the ground up. We were able to grind our own cacao, take a night tour of the garden for frogs, and explored the area around bijagua, of course including el Rio Celeste.
Immediately across from entrance of Rio Celeste waterfall hiking trail at Tenorio Volcano National Park
Short walking trail through banana, sugar cane plus other crop plantation and small animal barn.
It was a really nice room with a big king size bed and a klamboe. Everything was very clean and it was in the middle of the cacao plantation . The food was very nice . real Costarican food .
Hotel setting, view and location were incredible. Rainforest directly in your backyard and very private and peaceful. The breakfast was delicious, very filling and service was great.
They offer a great cacao tour. Cabins are very comfortable and clean, great water pressure in shower. Place well located not far from Volcán Tenorio National Park.
Very spacious apartment in central location in Bijagua. Perfect for exploring Tenorio Volcano and Rio Celeste. Big terrace with cozy hammocks and parking on site.
The family that hosts the property were agreeable and offered to assist me in contacting other helpful persons in the Bijagua area. Very pleasant people.
