Uvita is a lovely area to stay in, with beautiful beaches and plenty of waterfalls to visit in the area. We recommend taking a trip to visit the mangroves in Sierpes. Our kids loved the surfing lessons they had here.

Uvita is my favorite beach in Costa Rica.
Uvita is my favorite beach in Costa Rica. It's huge, you feel alone on the beach. The wildlife is beautiful. Tons of restaurants and places to walk. There are different beach sectors that you can chose from. It is a National Park, so you have to pay, but it is well worth it. One ticket gets you onto all the beaches. Staff in the Nationals Park is very helpful and there are patrols on the beach from the police and the National Park Guards.

Uvita was ungodly hot -- so hot that we really couldn't enjoy the sights. Even the ocean is hot. An airconditioned hotel room is a must! Even if there are many interesting birds and animals here, unless you have a high heat tolerance, you'll likely be miserable.

It wasn’t my favorite place in Costa Rica.
It wasn’t my favorite place in Costa Rica. Part of the problem was that it was so unbearably hot. I couldn’t go out and walk around comfortably. I didn’t go to the beach because of the heat and that would’ve been a big attraction also although my hotel was not far from town because of the heat again I found it unbearable to walk into town and walk around which I’d like to do when I’m traveling, so basically, my problems with AveUvita were weather related

Uvita is not the typical beach town, as it's very spread out and you need a car or a taxi to move around. In Uvita, you can visit the Marino Ballena National Park, which is possibly the most famous attraction in the area, where you can do whale-watching boat tours and other water sports tours like snorkeling and scuba diving.
We visited the Marino Ballena National Park and found its whale-shaped beach very suggestive and unique. However, we were also very underwhelmed by the poor housekeeping of the park. There was rubbish everywhere and this is disappointing and upsetting given that this is supposed to be a protected natural reserve and you also pay for the access at a substantial price per person, which should guarantee thorough housekeeping.
We went also to Playa Hermosa on our way to Uvita, but the amount of signs warning visitors of possible thieves, ruins a little bit of the vibe and it's not very relaxing having to watch your back all the time. Overall the beach is very nice and nothing happened to us. Since Playa Hermosa is also free to access, we recommend a visit, at least a stop by.

The beach and marine park area are well worth visiting.
The beach and marine park area are well worth visiting. Costs approx $6 which is very reasonable for Costa Rica. We saw humpback whales and heard them singing on our boat tour. We also snorkelled. It wasn't the right season for dolphins (they come in autumn).
There is not much to Uvita itself. It's very spread out and hard to walk around. Most of the roads are unpaved and dusty. It's perfect for a bike though. Many places (including the marine park) close down at 6pm, including most of the tour operators. The restaurants are good. There is a yoga place there but it only seems to have classes Mon-Wed.
The Tracopa bus service in the area (and from SJ) is very comfortable, punctual and reasonably priced. However you really need a car to explore the area properly - waterfalls etc.
Keith and Joe have created a tranquil paradise in the hills above Uvita. Already before you arrive they open conversation to check for any special needs or interest you might have during your stay. Their level of hospitality and attention for details in and around the Casitas create a superb experience at another level! I loved every moment of my stay! Joe's freshly cooked breakfast at the pool can compete with the best.
Besides that the hosts are super friendly which made me feel at home.
Highly recommended!
The best hostel I’ve ever been!!! Facilities were great, design is amazing, very well merged nature and comfort. It has its own restaurant that offers amazing food (loved the house ceviche!).
What I liked the most was the good vibes and welcomness of Karo, she suggested the best things to do and was so friendly!
I was debating whether to stay in Uvita or in Dominical, and choose Uvita specifically for this hostel, I was not wrong! The hostel and the place is much nicer than Dominical, would recommend!
Probably the best hotel we stayed during our vacation in Costa Rica. The villas are in excellent condition and very well maintained. It feels as if the owners herself stayed as a guest in the villas and equipped it for every possible need of the guests. Our experience at the hotel was unforgettable.
The staff in the hotel were exceptionally kind, they assisted us with every need we had. The breakfast was very tasty and fresh, and could also be eaten in the villa if you would like.
We Loved our stay at the Tucan Hotel. You can see how much work the owners have put into the hotel in the past year: It looks fabulous. It's comfy, spacious, and feels intimate. The staff was so lovely. I also absolutely loved the presence of the animals around. It's right next to the big street in Uvita and yet far enough so we don't hear the cars all the time. The supermarket and many restaurants are also nearby. Very lovely stay!
Javier & Mira, have a wonderful place and they are beautiful people. They made a home-made breakfast with fresh eggs, bacon and truly fresh, mouthwatering fruit while we sat at the bar and enjoyed great conversation with them. And they made the best pina colada I have ever tasted. The food in Costa Rica is so fresh with no preservatives and additives. They have wonderful place to escape the pressures of everyday life.
This was so far the best place I have been in Costa Rica. Everything is cozy, specially the people. They are so welcoming, friendly, helpful and truly and sincerely care for us. They treat us like proper friends. The place is very clean, environmental friendly , with an unique decoration. They have 3 sweet rescue animals that also give us so much love, couldn’t recommend more this place.
The views, location, villas and pool area are all fantastic - especially for the price we paid! We would absolutely recommend this place and would consider visiting again if we go to Uvita.
It was the best WiFi and water pressure we had in Costa Rica (both weak in lots of the places we stayed) and we had an amazing member of staff looking after us during our stay, called Lady.
Pirates Hostel is the absolute best! Nick and Tom are amazing hosts…super welcoming and went out of their way to show us around town and organize nights out. The hostel itself is basically brand new…everything is super clean and all the appliances etc work. The people staying were awesome and there’s a very inclusive, fun and friendly vibe. Highly recommend this place!!
Situated on a dirt road, away from traffic noises. Nice pool area and the room was spacious enough and cleaned every day. Nice that you can park the car inside the gate. I loved how everywhere in Uvita you feel close to the nature, birds fly by, even the scarlet macaws and we saw a hummingbird one morning just behind the hotels gate.
The property is bigger than it looks when you dorst enter. The best part of the hotel are the friendly owners. Sylvia is very kind and helpfull, her husband makes fresh bread, pasta, the baked bananas with cinamon are the best we had in Costa Rica. Good breakfast and dinner. A good spot to do tours around.
I loved everything about this property. The staff was out of this world, the villa we stayed in was breath taking, our whole experience can’t even be put into words. They went above and beyond for us in every way and made my husbands birthday and all the surprises that came with it, the best trip ever.
It was close to the beach. It was an attractive and well equipped apartment with a downstairs chill area, complete with weights, rocking chairs and a hammock. The gardens and pool was lovely too... it was the best place we stayed in during our visit ( and we've been to several now)... it's a real gem
beautiful place, shirt walk to the best beach I’ve ever seen, and not too many people go there. Ronald the landlord was terrific, accommodated for everything. he even gave me 2 rides to the store, plus arranged the best whale watching trip I’ve ever had. Plus he arranged my rides to and from downtown.
it was a cheap no frills stay. great value for the price. host is very nice and they are responsive and accomadating. Dont expect luxury stay, but at the same the price is very cheap and AC works and clean enough
Great hotel! We had the apartment with 2 bedrooms and it was spacious! Rooms were nicely decorated, modern and clean. The pool is also a great addition. WiFi worked great. Great location not far from Uvita beach.
The location had the best view and the property was even better than we imagined! The host was super friendly, accommodating and met all of our needs. Highly recommend this property for a trip to Uvita!
