We did a tour to the cheesemaking farm Herencia, high up on the slope of the volcano. Getting there via Google maps was a bit tedious but on the way back we got better directions - via Santa Cruz and Torito. The tour is a great experience! On the way back we visited the national monument at Guayabo.
We also tried to reach the Aquiares waterfall, but this is a bit difficult to find and we did not get there in time, had to turn back. The last stretch is climbing over big boulders along the riverbed.

We visited the Volcano Irazu.
We visited the Volcano Irazu. Amazing view of the crater and small lake inside. Beautiful drive to the volcano through the mountains. Worth the drive just for that. Another nice drive was the valley Orosi around the lake. Also did the NP Tapanti, great park to drive thru and do all the hikes. Did the thermal springs in Orosi, fun place to hang out with the locals. Not as good as LaFortuna but it is a thermal pool.
The hotel was easy to find with a large sign so it was a welcome respite for us after our red-eye flight. Our room was spacious, clean, and very comfortable. The property is in a beautiful location on the hillside above Turrialba and our room opened up to a deck overlooking the valley. In the morning, we were served a wonderful breakfast of items grown in their garden and eggs from their hens (included in the price of the room). The owner was welcoming and accommodating of our every need and I just wish that we could have stayed longer!
The best 2 days of my week vacation in Costa Rica. If you go with the mindset of adventure, disconnection from internet, camping style you will have a blast. This is a team of guys that do everything for you. They drive you , they cook , by the way excellent typical food, they are your rafting and adventures guides , the photographer, they eat with you and tell you stories and history of the place , the fauna , and flora etc, The experience is amazing ! Arturo , Fernando Negro and Jesus Andres were the best. Thanks for an amazing 2days
Casa Turire is a real hotel, not a lodge, in Hacienda style, located in beautiful surroundings, so that you can perfectly relax. The hotel itself is also nice, rooms are big, the staff is super friendly. Anyhow the place gives the impression that it has seen better times which is a pity because of its beauty. A little bit of refurbishment would do very well. Especially when you consider that it is at the upper price end for accommodation in Costa Rica.
Nevertheless we enjoyed our stay there.
The hotel is really nice and clean in a very quiet place, the breakfast is simple but ok, however the rafting activity was not at all what we could have expected, they do not select the participants (you are supposed to be in shape to do 5hours of rafting) and they prefer to fill the boat with a maximum of people even when the river is very low. To compensate the inactivity of the person whom randomly decided to
Maybe we were not lucky for the day but we didn’t enjoy it that much.
Very nice hotel with a very kind and helpful recepcionist, Sonja. The room was a good size with private bathroom. We had breakfast included which was a delicious, typical costa rican breakfast. We tried the restaurant one night and the food was tasty and good portion. The location is nice and peaceful. A bit far from the bus terminal but it can be reached easily by car/taxi. We had a nice stay there.
The grounds are beautiful with great views. This place has so much potential, and the staff/owners are very kind and accommodating. It seemed like the hotel had recently changed hands, and they were still still trying to figure things out/renovate. If the room was cleaner, the mattress and bed frame were replaced, and there was a desk (and ideally a mini fridge), I would stay here again.
It's typically the king of place where you have this special holiday feeling, where nothing can happen. So peaceful.
The place is incredible with one of the most beautiful view I had in Costa Rica.
The lodge is like a small studio, you have everything you need to cook, relax, WiFi, warm water.
Our hosts were extremely kind and took care of us.
We regret that we had 1 night only
The owner was a great gentleman. He showed us how to get to the waterfall whuch is not a simple task. The hotel is a bit out of the way and a little tricky to find. Our google map took us to the north of Turrialba near the volcano and down a very rocky road. I would avoid this way in the future, and come from the south through Turrialba town.
Amazing, definitely something we had never done before. A small cabin surrounded by beautiful nature and next to a beautiful river. The breakfast and dinner was wonderful as well. Some great activities on offer too. We went horse riding for the first time and it was beautiful.
We recommend a 4x4 even though the road has recently improved.
A wonderful ranch with an exceptional location and outstanding hosts where we had some beautiful experiences, including interactions with other guests. Overall, it was a very thrilling, extraordinary, adventurous evening. Food was delicious. We can only recommend this ecolodge. Pura Vida!!!
Spacious suite, great views, comfortable, lovely pool.
Away from the busy city which suites us fine - we prefer a out of town location. Possibility of cooking own meals, but a 5 - 10 min drive to restaurants. Activities close by (Catie, waterfalls, Guayabo). Staff very helpfully.
Mark and Anabelle are great hosts and helped me organize awesome activities and arranged transfer for me as I was travelling without a car :) they cooked good food and on request it was totally possible to also make it vegan which is great!
The view of the ranch is stunning!!!
This is a rustic place full of nature. It's on the mountains, so it is a bit colder than Turrialba. But we loved that. The view is beautiful. We were able to see toucans and other really nice birds. The breakfast was delicious. We would certainly come back here again
Very nice wooden building with 'mountain lodge' flair. Spacious room with 2 double beds (four poster beds with moscito curtains). Lovely flower decoration in the room and bathroom. Nice bathroom with open window (no glass). Strong hot shower and nice towels.
Located very close to the town and the white water rafting, lovely hotel with really helpful staff and a pretty garden and terrace. The book exchange is a lovely touch and I had a couple of books I’d finished with to leave behind. Highly recommended.
Friendly, family run, small boutique hotel. A spectacular location with far reaching views from the large covered deck. The family room was large, comfortable and very clean. Thank you for offering such a lovely place to stay.
We had wonderful 2 days at the Hacienda. We were absolutely amazed by the attentiveness and kindness of the staff. The food was great and was definitely one of a kind during our trip through Costa Rica.
