We picked this hotel for their sustainable credentials and we could see once there that they tried their best to follow a much more sustainable approach. The location is just unique and the views are stunning. We gad tent 14 and it was everything and more we could ask for. The room was really comfortable and the monkeys, lizards and racoons kept us entertained! I highly recommend the spa. The massage was great with views to go with it.

A slightly absurd but totally pleasant place to stay. The hay-days of this sister-establishment of that Caribbean hotel from the Godfather movies are, however, long gone. There is maybe even a casino (advertised but not seen). There certainly is a lovely pool on a desolate roof but it seemed to be out of hours. Checking in, you get a festival-like bracelet which is most annoying and entirely unnecessary. We ripped ours off which ever so slightly disgruntled the otherwise helpful and correct reception guy. The queen beds are HUGE, as in much broader than long. AC works. The antiquated feel of the whole place is more pronounced in the bathroom where a 30cm shower cabin threshold makes for one of many interesting interior design solutions some of which weren’t cool even back in the 1970s. This is, however, not a bad place to stay at all. Rooms are nice and clean. There is a supervised parking and 24h reception and the ferries of Puntarenas are at 75 m which makes this. Perfect stop for those early ferry departures.

Very run down. We went passed the local prison 2 roads away from place we had originally booked. No trees,no green, just run down building with barb wires and high gates, corrugated iron....not nice, avoid.

While the hotel and staff were lovely and helpful the common verandah didn't allow for much privacy. The hotel was also at least 5kms from the rest of the town with no shops or restaurants nearby, so a little isolated. But the beach just across the road was a bonus.

Plenty of restaurants, activities to explore, etc. For me, It totally depends on your hotel. I’ve stayed in Puntarenas many times, but my trip this week to Hotel Puntarenas Beach was, sadly, my worst hotel experience in Puntarenas.

Puntarenas is only worth the visit if you're gonna take the ferry boat to the islands next to it. The beaches are not great, full of trash, plastic , i guess because of the location and the currents? Not a lot to see or do. Not impressed.

Friendly town with lots of friendly people.
Friendly town with lots of friendly people. Great spot to visit the smaller islands and their virgin beaches. Please visit the light house area and Isla Cocos restaurant. The fresh seafood is excellent and the staff wonderful.
The hotel is located opposite a beach, so we had a nice sunset to watch shortly after our arrival. The owners were pleasant and they also own the little shop next door, which is pretty well stocked. There is a small restaurant attached to the hotel and the food there was fairly good. The breakfast included was tasty. There is a balcony area outside the room with a table and chairs.
The Villa was perfect, we had everything we needed and the location was ideal to visit famous surfer spots and national parks. The owners of the house are super helpful and kind and always there if anything is needed. We felt very safe and comfortable and recommend it to everyone who is planning to stay in the Puntarenas/Jaco area!
Location is great, also in this creepy ghostlike port town the hotel has a lot nicer atmosphere than the rest of the city. Some of the staff was really friendly and helpful. There is a pool where you can chill out after a long day but only until 21.00... Room was clean and tidy. Really really close to the ferry, 3-5 mins walk.
THIS IS ACTUALLY A REVIEW FOR PUNTARENAS BACKPACKERS, they moved me because there was no wifi in my room when i specifically asked for it. The room before i moved though was pretty dismal, musty and not really a hotel, just some rooms around some plants and some hammocks.
Bed was comfy
Good wifi
Close to beach
it is a very nice and calm hotel, with a small pool, where you can enjoy the evening in front of you room. Very nicely decorated. An open lobby and reception, providing free coffee and tea all day long. Very friendly and helpful staff. Private parking space and very close the the ferries to Nicoya peninsula.
This is not a nice hotel. It consist of an open inner court which is the pool, surrounded by two storeys of rather small rooms, all leading to this pool. No privacy, no nothing. Almost as in a prison. Two storeys, but elevator. Good thing is the closed parking. Breakfast kind of OK.
This hotel is not a 3 star hotel what so ever. We stayed here for 1 night and felt like we were misled. It's not all bad, but it's definitely not what booking . Com or Google says it is.
Pros:
- Host and staff are really great and helpful.
- Beach is right across the street.
The hotel is built like and old school US motel. The rooms are grouped around a pool. It’s pretty new and in really good conditions, very clean. The pool is beautiful and everything is kept nice and neat. Breakfast gets made to order, fresh.
Great place very close to the busstation. The host and her mother were super kind and helpful. The place is very very clean and the beds are very comfortable!
Would recommend to stay here if you need to spend a night in Puntarenas.
The host was friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and comfortable. It had a mini fridge which we like to have in our room. Nice restaurant close by and close to the beach.
Close to the ferry. The kitchen staff were very nice. ok for one night to take the ferry. we found a great restaurant 500 meters from the hotel. “el Joron” expensive but good
Clean, warm showers, air conditioning and two double beds. staff were very friendly and helpful, and the restaurant paired with the hotel was very affordable and lovely!
The location was great and the service was excellent. We feel as if we made a few more friends…..the staff! The hotel was perfect…..water in the shower….hott! Enjoy!
The pool and the staff were amazing! The location was perfect in its proximity to the beach and restaurants. Jairo was especially great and took very good care of us!
the view from our room and from the entire hotel where breath taking. the staff where all very very nice and professional. Good breakfast. i liked the pool area
The restaurant was excellent & convenient. We had all our great meals there. They are friendly & helpful. The beach is right at the front for nice sunset view.
