If you love diving and snorkelling, it's a paradise.
If you love diving and snorkelling, it's a paradise. I got my first open water diver license while staying in Mindelo. And there's always something going on in the city. Full of activities and cultural things to enjoy!

I liked the atmosphere and vibrance of the city.
I liked the atmosphere and vibrance of the city. Everywhere at night is live music. During the day you can walk around town or do an island tour or relax at Laguinha Beach. At night its best you take a taxi everywhere you go, because it can get a little sketchy. The taxi's are 2 euro's per ride.
Don't forget Mindelo is a city with it's own problems. There are a lot of homeless people, junks and other people who want something. Especially when you are a tourist. You have to find your way.
Nice places to eat: Casa Cafe Mindelo, La Pergola, Nautilus (these are all pretty touristic)
Nice cafe: Jazzy Bird
I would say, maximum of 7 days is enough.

Mindelo is a city with a vibe.
Mindelo is a city with a vibe. Its vibrant, full of colours and lovely people. I was there during the annual carnival -- a must see. But Sao Vicente, Mindelo, is a place where you can mingle and jingle at the same time.
I loved the different arts on the streets. And of course Cesera Evoro's house.
Mindelo is full of artists -- musicians most of all.

Mindelo is a place that you can like or not be too sure...
Mindelo is a place that you can like or not be too sure about. I liked it. It was a bit rough edged,, but more interesting and lively than Praia. The exhibit on Cesaria Evora in the museum was interesting. Buy some CDs- you won't regret it! Some of the restaurants are too European and cater to the yachtie crowd- find ones that are more Verdean. The markets are interesting- be sure to go into the fish market. Walk the streets and look at the wall murals and architecture. Go into the artisan area. I wan't there on a weekend- so live music was less easy to find, but in Cafe Mindelo you can listen to it.

It is not too big so it's easy to get around.
It is not too big so it's easy to get around. You have an accessable beach nearby, also great for snorkelling. The best places to eat need some exploring, ask other travellers who have been around for longer. Watch out for pickpockets. Was a major problem now.
The host (hostess) upgraded us to the bigger room, since we were the only one staying at the apartment at the time. The hostess is living in one of the 3 available rooms in the apartment. There is a huge living room with exit to small balcony with nice view to the beach and the round-about straight below. We only stayed for one night, so I can't say is it loud during the working days. It seems one of the newer buildings in Mindelo. The apartment looked clean; and the bed was very big.
Hands down the best place to stay in Mindelo. Stayed here also 2 or 3 years ago, and will probably come back again. A well equipped 1 room appartment (with an enclosed bathroom) with everything you need for a minimal price. Some of the rooms even have airconditioning and offer a stunning view over the Laginha beach and Mindelo's bay. Very quiet area, though during the day you might hear some heavy machinery due to several buildings being constructed nearby. Very pleasant host Carina.
Carlos the manager was a very friendly and helpful manager. He showed us how everything worked and where to go to purchase supplies. The apartment had an amazing view over Mindelo, with easy parking in front. It was equipt with kitchen utensils, coffee pot and washing machine. The beds were very comfortable and sitting/dining room family friendly. There was even a very good grocery store in the same building as the apartment. All worked out well.
Wonderful staff, prompt and friendly communication and they helped out with info or arranging car transfers always with a smile. Breakfast was very good, with local sourced fresh fruits and dishes (excellent cachupa)! The room was comfy, nice mattress and had all amenities one would expect. The hotel is located very close to the main beach of Mindelo, Praia da Laginha- amazing beach with crystal clear blue water.
Casa Cafe Mindelo is located in the heart of Mindelo within walking distance (with a small bag) from the ferry terminal. The rooms in the hotel show some wear from frequent guest turnover, but are otherwise fine for a short stay. The restaurant is fine for breakfast, but I'd dine elsewhere for dinner. Under booking's old rating system, I would rate this hotel a 7.5/10.
A modern, clean hotel in a great location for exploring the city and access to the port for ferry's to Santo Antao. The room was bright, clean and quiet. Very modern bathroom (fab to come back to after a few days hiking on the neighbouring island!). Breakfast was plentiful. And a good bar downstairs serving delicious tapas. Recommend.
Perfect place for a stay in Mindelo.
The provided breakfast was much enjoyed: fresh fruit platter, very good bread, yoghurt and a good shot of caffeine to get your day kickstarted. All this served on the wonderful rooftop terrace overlooking the bay of Mindelo.
Room is spacious and has a nice, warm shower.
Excellent place to stay if you're on a budget. The Basic Hotel is indeed, as the name literally says, basic, but it's a really great basic, with super friendly staff, a clean room, an ensuite bathroom, wifi, and a great breakfast. It went far beyond my expectations, and I would recommend it to anyone.
Insane location in the very heart of Mindelo, built in the harbour. Crazy views. Extreme proximity to literally anything in Mindelo. Paradise-like environment within the hotel courtyard. Amazing views form the pool. Nice staff. If you travel to Mindelo / Sao Vicente, look no further!
The house is very comfortable and located a maximum 20 minute walk from anything you'd want to visit in Mindelo - just bear in mind you'll be walking uphill to come back in the evening. The room is huge is very comfortable.
Everything about this place is excellent. The hosts are super responsive and Cindy and Marlene are on hand to answer any questions or provide support. Would highly recommend this as you place to stay in Mindelo.
What a great apartment. Well appointed, and spacious. Great views as well. A short walk to the beach or downtown Mindelo. Nuun and his staff are attentive and really care about their renters having a good stay
very comfortable and well located hotel. The Cape Verdean women who run it are fluent in English and work tremendously helpful and responsive. They arranged airport pick up and a taxi to take me to the port.
Carlos & Celestina are so nice people, so warm and welcoming, so supportive. The flat is so clean, the kitchen is so well equipped and the breaky is delicious. In Mindelo - this place is easy and no stress.
Nice little hotel. Good location in Mindelo, within walking distance to everything in town. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable, and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Very creative space, immediate contact with the owner and close to everything in Mindelo. Quiet neighborhood despite being next to the city center, maybe the dogs bark a little ;)
Great location on a quiet street but centrally located. Luxurious accommodations with a warm welcoming staff and nice breakfast. We will surely be back when we are in Sao Vicente.
