Amazing place... it was a very good surprise to find something like this, far from noise and contamination, and at the same time close to the city.
The comfort and cleanness of the overall installations is well noted. The shower very modern and spacious for a relaxing time...
Finally, the Staff is extremely respectful and polite... exceptional personnel!

It was good, but they were assuming that we like certain kind of juice when we don’t. Is a matter of customer service

The rooms ere clean and staff was super friendly and helpful! The restaurant is super cozy and has the best food we found in Otavalo! We also used the hotel driver on multiple days who enthusiastically brought us to the local sites and was timely in picking us up when we stayed in a place for several hours.

An ideal size city, big enough to have a lot going on, but small enough to be easy to get around on foot and feel safe even out in the streets at night. So many great places to eat, and of course the crafts markets including the Plaza de Ponchos (but be sure to check out the other markets more off the tourist track) are amazing. Outside the city, the surrounding villages and attractions such as the Peguche waterfalls are worth the time to go see.

We took a bus from Quito to Otavalo and then used taxis to get around very cheaply. The highlights were visiting Parque Condor (so many birds of prey to view in large cages, all rescued, including two condors), a ride on a boat (30 min) at Cuicocha National Park (its a crater lake created by a volcano), and of course shopping at the Otavalo Market (so many beautiful handmade items to purchase).

We went for the market, which merited the half-day we gave it. The local handicrafts and products are swamped by the imported goods (often Chinese nonsense and knock-offs) and household supplies that are of little / no interest to tourists. Even our most ardent shoppers came away empty-handed, which is unfortunate for the local vendors. It was a good jumping-off point for a trip to Cotacachi (famous for its leather but not on Sunday!) and Laguna Cuicocha, a crater lake with nice views and multiple hiking options, which we enjoyed.

Otavalo is lovely, the markets are amazing.
Otavalo is lovely, the markets are amazing. Just DO NOT STAY AT Los phonchos appartment. it is extremly noisey, the owner is a cheat and a lier. He will rip you off. He tells you one thing, then will rip you off. BE AWARE. DO NOT STAY THERE> Not to be trusted. There are lots of other lovely places to stay. Places that are honest.

Please to not do the Laguna hikes by yourself.
Please to not do the Laguna hikes by yourself. I did the laguna cuicocha hike on a saturday solo but had been seeing other groups and I was taken into the rocks off the trail by a man with a gun and knife. He robbed me and took advantage of me. It was the scariest moment of my life. Please please please do not to this hike alone and only go with a group. I only was able to visit the Mercado 24 de Mayo which was wonderful for local food before I left the town because I couldn't be there anymore.

The Otavalo market is a shadow of its former self.
The Otavalo market is a shadow of its former self. The market is flooded with cheap goods from China - microfiber children's clothing, trinkets, etc. It's hard to find the local products, and there are few left. Should be removed from tourist routes!
We enjoyed a lot our stay at Hostal Chasqui. First, the staff is highly accommodating and helpful. The room was nice and big enough for a few nights. The bathroom was relatively functional, and the water was very hot, which we enjoyed a lot. The WIFI signal was strong and worked during the entire length of our stay. They have an all-equipped kitchen which many amenities. You can either eat inside or on one of the two patios and admire the lovely view The hotel is adorable, colourful and very well-exposed sun-wise.
Amazing little castle near the wonderful waterfall of Peguche. Both the enterior and interior reflect the unique style of the owner Marcos, who was extremely friendly and helpful, and also knowledgeable about the local attractions (and as an extra, transported us to Quito Airport, which is quite far away). Highly recommended if you want to avoid the crowd and have a piece of Ecuadorian Paradise instead. (ps: there are real colibri birds in the garden, and words can not describe, how beautiful creatures they are).
It is a super clean and spacious apartment, still centrally located and within walking distance of major highlights in Otavalo. The couple that hosts you will go above and beyond to help you and make sure you enjoy your stay. The kitchen allows you to make your own food if you would like to. The shower has decent pressure and nice temperature. The WiFi works well enough for at least WA and streaming. We got an excellent deal, great value for money.
As a solo female traveler this hotel was perfect for me. I liked that the hallways had motion detector lighting and my room was at the top of the stairs. This is a family run operation and the young lady (I think eleven or twelve) took charge of the check-in. I was pleased and impressed by her attitude. My room had plenty of storage space, the internet worked well and I was within walking distance of restaurants and the market.
Markus, the owner and man who wears all hats, could not be more kind, welcoming, knowledgable and genial.
Our communication was flawless.
Isolina - a staff member - was delightful and charming. She made our stay all the more memorable.
Intiyaya is located in the perfect place to experience Otavalo and the surrounding area. The Inn itself is beautiful with breath-giving views. We hope to return again someday.
The Aylluwasi is a lovely refuge from the bustle of Otavalo. Our room was huge, clean, nicely decorated with old photographs and quiet. Alberto, the owner, is a wonderful and thoughtful person who enjoys gardening by the number of potted plants in the common areas and rooms. We recommend La Cosecha restaurant nearby, great food, locale and service.
Beautiful Hostal!
If you are going to Ovatalo, you must stay here. The Hostal it is only 5 minutes walk to the la plaza del poncho. Many restaurant and supermarket are available near by.
The style of the Hostal is very traditional and very clean. Amazing staff! They helped me with any questions I had.
I highly recommend this place.
I had a wonderful stay at El Andariego. My room was very comfortable, the wifi was excellent (I work online and had no problems with video calls or using the internet) and the staff was so kind and helped me with everything I needed. The location is also fantastic (right in downtown Otavalo!). Highly recommend!
Diego was amazing! He picked me up from the airport, made sure I had everything I needed, drove me to my hike the next day, gave advice, and made my visit to Otavalo amazing! I loved the breakfast as well! The large curved wall of windows was beautiful and the room was spacious and had a desk.
We had a great stay at El Geranio. The hosts are very friendly and prepared us with information about Otavalo and the surroundings. The market is just in walking distance. Big and comfy room, perfect breakfast - and on the last day we even got breakfast-to-go at 6 am for the bus ride.
An elegant true Ecuadorian experience. Be sure to take the historic tour! The guestrooms are spacious. The dining room and breakfast room are lovely. The staff is always ready to please you. Many opportunities to sit in front of warm fireplaces, sipping a cup of canelazo.
Breakfast was tasty with eggs, yogurt, fruit and bread. Staff was super attentive and helpful. Big room with hot water in the shower. There is secure parking about three blocks from the hotel. The location is walking distance from the various markets and cultural sites.
The property is in a tranquil, beautiful, country like setting with abundant flowers and gardens.
It is a 10- minute walk from Iluman and a 20 minute bus ride from Otavalo.
The rooms are charming, with fireplaces and face a farm, natural area view.
Friendly staff and extremely helpful. Entire hotel has a great vibe with modern decor. It was nice having a personalized welcome. Felt as if we were in a colorful art museum.
