A small but beautiful city.
A small but beautiful city. It was a fishing village but has been transformed to a tourist town. The main street -- Ave. Charles Darwin, is full of life, literally -- sea lions, iguanas, pelicans, etc. It's an adventure like no other.

It's a nice, friendly town.
It's a nice, friendly town. It's got plenty of ATMS, several grocery stores, and a lovely oceanfront walk. The fish market is a must see in the morning. There are sea lions who hang around waiting for scraps. I also saw iguanas and pelicans waiting for handouts. There's very nice bars, restaurants, and market stalls. It's a little spendy, because you're on an island. There's things you can do for free, on your own. There's also TONS of tour companies running day trips to all the nearby islands. You can walk most anywhere, and there are cheap taxis as well.

The touristy part and the harbor to the Darwin research...
The touristy part and the harbor to the Darwin research center was full of shops, restaurants both cheap and expensive, street food, and travel agencies. People are friendly and it’s clean and safe.
Los Kiosko is an intense street where people are coming at you with menus trying to get you come to them - at the same time. But they have specials for $5 lunch or dinner plus a regular menu with cheap meals too. Great Ecuadorian food! We ate ice cream everyday! There was a little froyo place on Baltra and a gelato place down the same street closer to the harbor that was excellent. We found pan de yucca at a street food vendor that was magical, though not always open.
Sea lions are everywhere near the water (not in the same capacity as San Cristobal but still).
You can watch blue footed boobies diving into the water all the time and the frigits are out in mass as well!
Everyone is happy.
Also we found our favorite travel agency with the Galapagos Living Travel Agency. They were fair priced and hilarious. Lots of laughs and planning of epic next day adventures.

We liked the laid-back feeling when the main road was closed in the evening and the music of the street musicians. We also liked the accessibility of shops, beaches, wildlife, information centre and harbour,
Above all, we appreciated every smiling face and helpful citizen in town.

Diving with Macarrons was fantastic.
Diving with Macarrons was fantastic. Burgers at Golden Prague are amazing. Head to the fish cleaning spot in front of Macarrons in the morning to watch some entitled pelicans and cheeky seals hassling the fishers. Plenty of cheap laundromats in town so no need to bring everything you own. Pizza Italia is great value.
Room was nice and clean. Loved the balcony and the inner yard (safe, calm and hammocks). Staff spoke English. Breakfast was ok, nothing special and sometimes we had to wait quite long time to get it. Wifi did not really work (common in Galapagos Islands). Lots of restaurants and shops on the same street. Near the ocean and about 10 minutes walking distance from the dock where the ferrys to other islands as well as boats for day trips leave. You will get free water from the front desk. Good hotel to stay in Santa Cruz!
Very friendly and helpful staff. We stayed there twice when we were traveling from Santa Cruz to Isla Isabela and from Isla Isabela to San Cristobal. Both rooms were very clean and spacious. Hot showers! The accommodation is somewhat further located from the center of Santa Cruz than other hotels, but all within hiking distance. Due to the location you also see how locals live (markets, restaurants, etc), while Santa Cruz center is profoundly focused on tourists.
The location was right next to a nature preserve, so it was peacfully quiet with only the waves of the ocean and birds making noise. The hotel was gorgeous and rustic. The owners were exceptionally friendly, and truly cared for the wellbeing of their guests like family. La Fortaleza de Haro is the epitome of what hotels should be on a holiday get away.
The hotel was very clean and located in a central area. Also , we left in mornings for tours very early and Elizabeth woke up extra early to make a wonderful breakfast. She helped with tours, even took us on one , and showed us fantastic hospitality by taking us to an authentic ecuadorian restaurant for dinner. She make the trip so much better!
We loved the creative and artistic touches throughout the space. Elena is a kind, warm and helpful host. The quiet location is perfect for exploring the beautiful beach and just a few minutes walk to central Puerto Ayora. Our room had a lovely flower- filled porch. Breakfast is fantastic at the cafe in the lower level.
Our trip was short and we only did a one night stay at the hotel, the owner let us leave our things at the hotel so we could explore around after out check out time. He was very nice to us and even offer to call a taxi so we could explore the turtle ranch and the beach.
The staff in this hotel was so nice. They helped us to organize all our trips on the Galapagos Islands for the cheapest prices possible and even stored our luggage for days. There is a huge and very clean kitchen that can be used and the rooms are huge and convinient.
The hotel is situation in an excellent location, just minutes walk to the Seafood market, Darwin Station and the many restaurants and brew pubs that exist in Santa Cruz. The hotel had a beautiful, quiet property and the rooms were comfortable and spacious.
Amazing location in Puerto Ayora with the nicest owner you will ever meet. Josy went above and beyond to help make my stay amazing - especially helping to coordinate tours and Covid restrictions. Definitely the most gracious host I have ever stayed with.
Gorgeous, peaceful and quiet yet minutes from the bustle of Puerto Ayora. Spacious accommodations and the host Pilar is so loving, compassionate and helpful. Fantastic experience, I wouldn’t consider looking for other accommodations on Santa Cruz.
Great hotel in Puerto Ayora, only 5 minutes on foot from the pier. Nice breakfast, enticing pool with a pool bar. The staff are very friendly and always helpful. We appreciated laundry service. I would definitely choose this hotel again.
A hidden gem in Puerto Ayora. Clean room, solid breakfast, and the location is central and most importantly quiet! Pedro the owner is a wonderful host and enthusiastically assisted with all queries and requests. Highly recommended.
Its in the town of puerto ayora but in a quiet street. You only can hear cats and dogs sometimes in the night. The owner are very friendly and helpful, you get water for free and the daily room cleaning is also good.
Ruben is a fantastic host. He was a great support on recommending activities at the galapagos islands. The location is great, close to everything. Would def. recommend the hotel to solo travelers.
The staff was very friendly and there was water you could take. There are stores around the hotel so you can grab some food there since the hotel doesn't serve any.
