FAQs about hotels in Salamanca

An Ancient University Town with Fascinating Culture

In the south-west corner of Castile and Leon, the Spanish city of Salamanca is home to one of the oldest universities in Europe. Declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Old City is one of the most beautiful Renaissance cities in Europe.

Situated next to the border with Portugal, Salamanca has unique architecture including Romanesque, Gothic, Moorish, Renaissance and Baroque monuments. The Old Cathedral dates from the 12th-13th centuries and joined together with the 16th-century New Cathedral.

One of the most charming squares in Spain, Plaza Mayor is the heart of Salamanca and an excellent example of Baroque architecture. Enjoy a walk around the exterior terraces, savour an ice cream or relax in one of the picturesque restaurants.

Founded by King Alfonso IX in 1218, the University of Salamanca has more than 3,500 international students and teachers. Known for its Spanish courses for non-native speakers, the university houses a huge library with more than 150,000 invaluable volumes.

Booking.com offers a great variety of hotels, guest houses, hostels and apartments to choose from. Salamanca Airport is 15 km away from the city and is easily accessible by public transport.

Salamanca is a lovely city and definitely worth a visit. We stayed 3 night and were able to see everything we wanted without rushing. It is a walkable city. We came by train and left by bus. We used the local bus only once, and that was to get to our apartment. We were there during Easter weekend, so reservations are important. Great restaurants and food.

Brilliantly lit at night, it is perfect for late night tours. The city is safe, people are friendly, food is simply excellent! Didnt get enough out of my visit, will go again!

Salamanca has a very important role in the history of medieval philosophy, being one of the oldest continuously matriculated schools in the world, where Jesuits and Dominican friars debated about the universe and the rights of men, where Cervantes studied, and where inquisitors were honed. Well, a good background reading is a must rather than simply becoming a passive guest of this ancient city (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salamanca).

One of our favourite cities in Spain - magnificent historic centre with a fantastic cathedral and jaw dropping Plaza Mayor. The university student population give the city a buzzy feel and the wide choice of bars and restaurants are generally excellent.

Salamanca is a beautiful city for urban tourism. It has the right size to walk around, forgetting about cars and walking without getting too tired. The historical visits to monuments are numberless and the gastronomy very good. There are vegetarians options in many restaurants and several restaurantes with vegetarian tapas at very cheap prices.

Everything we read about this hotel lived up to expectations! From the moment we arrived (valet service, check in etc) up until we left was remarkable. The staff were exceptionally friendly and warm and every request we made was met. Nothing is too much trouble for them. The place is beautiful…it’s the perfect place to be if you just want to relax and escape from the busy City life. The breakfast was one of the best we’ve had in Spain and we had an incredible fine dining experience during dinner. Will definitely be back!

Had my share of 5 star hotels in the past, but Hotel Rector was off the chart. We felt really special and welcome during our entire stay. The comfort of the bed, the room were exceptional, the friendliness of the staff, ensuring everything (and I mean everything) was perfect... Really loved the experience and will be back whenever I visit Salamanca again! As a bonus, the parking place was great, really convenient with a charging cable to our car :)

We have stayed here many times en-route to Portugal as it is almost exactly half way for us. The hotel is located 5 minutes off the motorway and is a nice stroll to the city centre on a nice sunny day or 5/6 euros in a taxi if the weather is not so good. Parking is free around the hotel and there is underground parking if you want secure parking. The staff are really good and friendly, the food is good if you decide to eat in.

This hotel is located on one of the most picturesque streets in all of Salamanca. It is surrounded by palaces and churches from the 16th-18th centuries, everything in a warm sandstone. All the main sights were in easy walking distance, and there were abundant restaurants and bars close by. They let me drop my bags so I could explore the city until my train left in the evening. A great little hotel. I hope to stay there again!

A slick modern hotel right in the centre of Salamanca. Just 5-10 minute walk to the main square and cathedral. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The young guy on reception took time to explain how to get to the best photo spots. We were able to park our motorcycle in the secure basement garage onsite. The inclusive breakfast was the best we've had at an Ibis. We will use this hotel again.

Salamanca is a spectacular city worth spending time in, even during freezing February, as we did. The Puerta de la Catedral is wonderfully situated in the old town, facing the cathedral. It is very handy to break our journey when travelling through Spain - easy to get to from the motorway. Usually on street parking nearby, petrol station over the road to refuel before setting off again. And a short walk to the Roman bridge and the city for exploring and finding somewhere to eat. We had a lovely view from the balcony.
