We did a round trip starting in Madrid, further to Portugal and ended in Galicia.
We could not have done better.
Santiago de Compostela is a perfect starting point to explore Galicia and we greatly enjoyed staying there.
Please note, that Santiago is the target of many pilgrims seeking spiritual inspiration.
We visited Santiago in December - where only a few tourists and pilgrims were seen.

It is a great way to test your resilience, endurance.
It is a great way to test your resilience, endurance. Discovered lots of various scenaries, cultural differences with my own. Imporved my Spanish. Pilgrims are usually very kind and helpful.
I did not like the number of pilgrims, too many doing just the last 100km and forcing us to book too long in advance to ensure we have space in albergues.
In Galicia expect rain!
Great life experience

It's a great experience architecturally, archeologically, spiritually, and gastronomically. It is one of my favorite places in the world. You can just walk around the old city and see new things all the time. If you have a chance or a calling to walk the Camino de Santiago, I highly recommend doing it!

Santiago is a cultured city with a lot of life.
Santiago is a cultured city with a lot of life. THe University population keeps the city vibrant and lively. The cultural scene is tempered by the religious pilgrimage (now also an ADVENTURE destination). The local Galician food fare is delicious and needs to be tried.

Conveniently-located in the very heart of the old town, the hotel offers excellent service and ultimate comfort to visitors. No need to use any form of transport as everything worth seeing is within easy walking distance. Personal is amazing, doing everything possible to accommodate guests ‘ needs and make them feel at ease. Breakfast is basic but satisfying for the price paid.
A good valve for money. I definitely recommend this hotel to everyone visiting Santiago de Compostela for whatever purpose.
Buenas dias! Leaving santiago now. Pleasantly surprised, Santa Filomena is even nice than the citadines shinjuku tokyo!!! Newly renovated, modern, super clean, very comfy big beds, smart hotel & average size rooms. Just infront of the bus stop & few steps away to seafood market & restos & bars. Walkable to cathedral & old town square. Personally managed by siblings Avelino & Eva who are both very nice. Fully booked din sila. Thanks God, overall, had great stay in Santiago.
This property was fantastic for the completion of the Camino. Modernly renovated, spotless, and kind reception. Bed was the best we experienced on the Camino. Bathroom was large and shower had great pressure. Hotel served breakfast, but our flight was too early to enjoy it. Location could not be beat - steps to the Cathedral! Reception made fantastic dinner recommendations and even arranged taxi for our departure from the Santiago airport.
Everything from the first steps into the hotel was exceptional. Luisa and Christina were very helpful, hospitable and friendly. We had a Superior room with a lovely view of the back terrace area. Clean, very comfortable and the value for money was above expectations. A heartfelt 'Thank You' to the staff for making our time in Santiago de Compostela special. Looking forward to coming back.
We chose the location because it was close to the airport. We were surprised how pretty the rooms were. Our room was nicer than the picture. Very clean with high end towels and bedding. Elana speaks English well and offered to call a cab before we even requested it. She also made us a nice early (for Spain) dinner which was great since we were so exhausted from walking the Camino.
Great location near Santiago old town, everything within walking distance. On main road but our room was very quiet. Large room, fairly basic looking but very clean and comfy, nice views over countryside. Friendly staff. Good breakfast. Had a nice evening meal at Codex, cafe Derby does a grand beer. Airport bus goes past hotel.
Very good location for discovering everything in old town Santiago. The cathedral is about 250 meters from the hotel and Alameda Park (with great views of the old town and cathedral) is 150 meters away. The apartment was very complete (including a small kitchen), comfortable (including aircon) and modern. Very friendly host!
The hotel is very clean, comfortable and good value. There is a bus stop just outside to get to the airport and it only takes 15 minutes. The reception will book a taxi for you also. Very close to a huge shopping centre with lots of shops and restaurants. About 20 minute walk into the old town of Santiago
Lovely hotel in the perfect location for exploring the old town. Lovely choice at breakfast. Although it doesn't have a car park, the public car park is easy walking distance to the hotel. Would recommend for anyone looking to stay in Santiago de Compostela.
Best location ever, right next to the Catedral de Santiago. The hotel is amazing, beautiful and the decoration is so unique. The room for 2 ppl was great, had a lot of space in the room and bathroom. The staff was very helpful and friendly.
Absolutely THE most beautiful and comfortable hotel to stay. We walked Camino del Norte and spent three fabulous nights here the bed, pillows, bathroom and room was excellent. This is our 7th time in Santiago and we feel the best.
It is a spotless lodging with amiable staff. It is a very central hotel near the main Church of Santiago de Compostela. We fell in love with the area, with many places to eat and drink. Just a few steps away from the Alameda.
If you want to visit Santiago de Compostela, and you are not a walking pilgrim, you need a good value hotel close to the old town with its own car park. Stay here. Perfect location, good breakfast.
The staff at Rua Villar is unequaled! The hotel is in the best location imaginable in Santiago. The breakfasts were varied and abundant. You can’t go wrong with this hotel . Highly recommended.
lovely small boutique hotel in a traditional Santiago building in the old town (at the border but very near the Cathedral). Very helpful, attentive and friendly staff. Excellent breakfast.
I chose somewhere which had 24 hour reception, thinking it was more expensive than normal for Spain - turned out to be very nice indeed with bath and large balcony with views of the city.
Great location, right in the city center of Santiago. The cathedral is just 10 minutes walk from the hotel. Very spacious rooms, clean, and with sort of balcony.
