FAQs about hotels in Bristol

From Brunel to Banksy!

Britain’s 4th most popular visitor destination, Bristol boasts Brunel’s magnificent Clifton Suspension Bridge spanning the River Avon. More Brunel handiwork is in the harbour where his SS Great Britain steamship is moored. Pirate walks here detail the city’s underground naval history.

Further north in Clifton is the world’s oldest zoo outside a capital city. Other Bristol attractions include At-Bristol Museum and the Grade I-listed Corn Exchange with its 4 "nails" outside where money changed hands. Also worth a visit is St Nicholas Market, in a Georgian square home to several bars and a Slow Food Market on the 1st Sunday of every month. Other Bristol shopping options include shopping centres at Cabot Circus, and Cribbs Causeway on the outskirts.

As a student city, Bristol really comes to life after dark. The live music scene here is fantastic and has given way to several internationally known bands, but for something more alternative head to Eastside.

Another option for alternative-seekers is the work of hometown street artists Banksy. Just like Booking.com’s Bristol accommodation, his work is spread throughout this fabulous city.

This Gateway to the West Country is served by Bristol Airport and Temple Meads train station. The old Bristol to Bath railway line is now a cycle route and makes a great day trip.

This was our second stay at The Bristol Hotel, and it was just as amazing two years on. On arrival we were greeted at Reception by friendly and helpful staff, but throughout our stay every member of staff we passed in the corridor asked how were were and if we needed anything. Impressed with the efficient and welcoming staff team. Our Classic double room had a coffee machine, nice toiletries, comfy kind size bed and good shower and we were thrilled to be allocated a bedroom looking out on the waterside. The breakfast in the morning was outstanding, the standard of food was high, with big selection of lovely Danish pastries, banana bread, croissants: my husband had the fried breakfast which he said was great, and I ordered porridge which was made especially, and this came piping hot , the gentleman serving us remembered I requested honey on the side. We had a lovely break at this hotel, and recommend this hotel to anyone that wants a family or romantic break, it is in a great location right by the waterfront and is near all the bars and restaurants, Bristol Hippodrome, The Bristol Beacon (Music Venue). Look forward to our next time and a thank you to the staff for making our stay so welcome and relaxing.

We only stayed two nights - one full day- as we were going else where, but found the city compact enough to visit 3 attractions on foot while enjoying walking round the central area. 6 Hrs total including cafe stops etc. We could easily have spent another day.

So much to do and see.

So much to do and see. I loved the whole vibe of the city - very vibrant. Loved the docks area and floating harbour. The M Shed was an amazing experience. I like the way Bristol is very open and honest about its past and link to the slave trade. The Old Vic was fantastic and the bars/pubs around there were great - went to a great jazz session. Cathedral beautiful. The Blackbeard to Banksy walking tour was so enjoyable and our tour guide really engaging and interesting. While I didnt go onto the SS Great Britain on this trip I loved the fact that you could use your ticket to come back to it throughout the year - never came across that before. Loved being on the Matthew. Loved just wandering around. Suspension bridge was a highlight and the Visitor Centre there. Will come back here again.

I did like the variety of pubs and places to eat.

I did like the variety of pubs and places to eat. I particularly enjoyed visiting the SS Great Britain, Brunel's ship that is in permanent dry dock. There is a small museum full of original parts of the ship and containing information on the recovery and restoration of the ship before it came back to Bristol. There is a stair case and disability lift that takes from street level to the base of the ship which is fully enclosed and climate controlled for preservation reasons. You can walk all the way around the hull. Afterwards you can access the deck and even find your way into the heart of the ship where you will discover how the ship's crew, passengers and cargo spent their time at sea. There are mannequins, artificial smells and audio to keep you entertained.

The staff were amazing- all so friendly, flexible and helpful and went above and beyond to help us out. I was checking in and out on my own with young children and it really made a huge difference. Best hotel staff I have ever come across. The hotel is really well located between Cabot Circus and Temple Meads station. Rooms are well kitted out and clean. There are also interconnecting rooms for families. I will be recommending this hotel to any family/ friends coming to visit Bristol!

Our family absolutely loved the room and surely the hotel. It was a big, comfortable room, just perfect for a family of four. We liked as well the fact that it was just 6-7 mins walk from Bristol Temple meads station. Very near to the hotel, just accross the road, there was a bus station, but as we prefer to walk, the city centre was accessible in just 10-15 mins walk, perhaps less if you do not have small children. The breakfast was very good as well. We had a very pleasant stay 😊

Breakfast was excellent as on my previous visit. I was ill during my stay with a virus and had difficulty getting any sleep which is the reason I have been slow to respond to this request to rate the Clifton Hotel. Consequently, not able to comment fairly on whether the bed was comfortable, although I suspect it was very much OK Had a problem with booking in which was satisfactorily resolved and thought all staff helpful. Clifton location is excellent for visitors to Bristol.

My family and I really enjoyed our stay at Bristol Marriott Royal Hotel. We had a lovely spacious, clean room with a welcome gift, the cutest ascot teddy bear and a box of chocolates with a personalised handwritten note with well wishes for my son’s competition. That was extremely thoughtful. Thanks to Sylvie at the reception for her great customer service and to Hrishi for sorting out our car park. We will definitely return when visiting Bristol again.

Breakfast was good with a varied choice and very appetising . location is superb, a short walk through the park to Clifton centre and a bus stop opposite to take you to Bristol city centre. Couldn’t have been better. Clifton is lovely with boutiques, bars, restaurants and near the suspension bridge - what’s not to like

The room was huge and so was the bathroom. Great touches such as a bathrobe (only one but you can request more) slippers (one pair!) Complimentary bottles of water, biscuits. We happened to have a balcony, these are not as standard only corner rooms but lovely bonus even though it's overlooking very busy and noisy road. Hotel is very well located ,super covinient to access central Bristol.
