FAQs about hotels in Cambridge

The Inspiration for Genius

Open-plan and open-minded, Cambridge is best known for universities dating to the 13th century. King’s College is the most popular, and its chapel choir is internationally famous. Although accessed from cobbled King’s Parade, it is best viewed from a punt on The Backs, the part of the River Cam behind.

Taking a flat bottomed punt in Cambridge is an institution and gives great views of Queen’s College Mathematical Bridge and the Bridge of Sighs at St John’s College. Upstream is Jesus Green, site of an outdoor pool and a fantastic beer festival. Next to this is Midsummer Common, a park home to the annual Strawberry Fair (and the occasional cow). Opposite are the college boathouses - get up early to see the rowers in action!

Cows also roam the Mill Pond meadow, where the river leads south to Grantchester, a quaint village with a lovely cafe. Places to eat in Cambridge include riverside restaurants and typical English pubs like The Eagle, drinking hole of DNA founders Watson & Crick.

Cambridge shopping options include a daily market (in Market Square), the Grafton Centre and the exclusive Grand Arcade, the latest addition. The Scott Polar Museum and free Fitzwilliam Museum are 2 of many fantastic Cambridge museums.

Stansted Airport is connected by train to the city’s accommodations choices on Booking.com.

Cambridge is a wonderful architectural town steeped in...

Cambridge is a wonderful architectural town steeped in history with one of the most prestigious universities in England. The centre of Cambridge has a surprising number of green areas and the streets are attractive, many with cobble streets in the centre. The market is thriving unlike so many in modern days and street food is highly recommended, there are a number of independent shops around as well as the expected high street stores but a new shop for me Soctopus was rather quirky. Cambridge centre is easy enough to get around on foot though can be uneven underfoot in certain places, particularly with the cobbles, however, do expect plenty of people to be around, especially in the summer when numerous tourists flock to the area. If you don't mind the variable English weather then I would definitely recommend Cambridge in the winter/ early spring months when there are far fewer people around. The great thing is that the punts provide blankets when it is cold and some umbrellas when wet, the fudge kitchen you can prebook to have a go at making your own, a definite recommend for something different to do and you get to enjoy your hard work at the end trying some delicious fudge. There is plenty to do with a wide variety of museums. I particularly enjoy the Antarctic Museum and the natural history and fitzwilliam museum.

The staff were very helpful and kind.

The staff were very helpful and kind. I felt the room was too small and the lighting awful ,and only one chair for two guests was not good. I also feel there should be a choice for breakfast as to whether you have it or not. I personally couldn't have it as I was having surgery that day and as its so near Addenbrookes Hospital, I am sure plenty of patients need to stay there overnight before their planned surgery.

Fascinating, beautiful city, full of history, architecture, culture, entertainment, learning, gardens, river with punting, restaurants, pubs, shops. Bicycles everywhere. Travel by car is problematic with difficulty finding anywhere to park and car parks proving hard to use and very expensive. Make use of the Park and Ride circling the city edges. Well worth visiting for a few days.

Thoroughly enjoyed walking around Cambridge, it was a lot busier than I expected but that was mainly due to the number of students. Plenty of food outlets especially in the market square. Our only problem was we had our dog with us who wanted to be everywhere so would suggest not taking a dog unless they are extremely placid and not pulling your arms off!

So much to see and do. The University and the Wren library were incredible. History and so much more. The Old Bicycle Restaurant was so amazing, fab menu, also the Eagle Pub, full of history and excellent menu. Transport options plentiful, although we preferred to walk.

We took the hop-on, hop-off bus tour of Cambridge and felt it gave us a good overview of the city. We particularly enjoyed the American Cemetery, which was uncrowded and full of history, and the FitzWilliam museum, a gem of a museum. We were disappointed to see how many of the colleges charged admissions to their properties. As singers we wanted to see the inside of Kings College Chapel, but found that we would have had to pay GBP 14 per person just to get into the grounds. Most of the chapel area was covered with tarps too (no discount for that or for 'concessions'.) We still found lots to see as we wandered around the historic area of the city.

Room very comfortable, appreciated heater on when we arrived so our room was lovely and warm. Very clean and comfortable, tea and biscuits provided. Adequate wardrobe and desk very useful. The hotel is literally just up the road from the Nuffield Hospital where I had to have my operation. Most convenient. Our evening meal was enjoyed very much. Staff were very friendly. Nice old inn to stay in. Also very near to park & ride and bus stops into Cambridge.

Beautifully decorated, clean and new hotel. Comfortable room with a really nice bathroom and more amenities than expected. Breakfast was amazing. We ate in the hotel restaurant both nights as the food was great and our son particularly loved the kids' buffet. Fabulous pool. Good location, lovely walk along the river into the city centre. Super family friendly. We would 100% recommend and would definitely stay again if visiting Cambridge in future.
