We enjoyed a cocktail in the bar, which was made and served by Ken. He was attentive, polite and very professional. Breakfast was excellent and all the staff were friendly and helpful. Overall our experience at St James was great and we would be happy to stay again in future.

The waitress at breakfast was a delight, Very pleasant and accommodating. Unfortunately some of the breakfast was dry due to being overcooked or left to one side, which spoiled the experience. There weren't any Decaf tea bags in the room but the receptionist found some for me in the onsite bar. We felt a little let down that the on site bar didn't do any food in the evening apart from pizza, which meant that we had to go further afield for something to eat.

Famous for its association with Robin Hood, Nottingham is in the very heart of England. The outlaw’s legend lives on, with many city streets and buildings named after him and his Merry Men. A Robin Hood statue sits at the foot of Nottingham Castle, on a small hill with historic pubs built into it. Also cut into the rock are visitable caves extending under the city.
The Old Market Square is the largest in the UK and becomes a city beach in the summer, with rides and a small pool. Permanent fixtures are the impressive Council House with its Exchange Arcade shops, and the several Nottingham hotels with parking in the surrounding area.
During the 19th century, Nottingham was an important lace-making centre and many Victorian warehouses and buildings remain in the Lace Market area. Neighbouring Hockley is home to the National Ice Centre and independent shops, while the biggest shopping centres are Broadmarsh and the Victoria Centre.
In the western suburbs, by Nottingham University, Wollaton Park surrounds an Elizabethan stately home, while east of Trent Bridge cricket ground is the National Water Sports Centre in Holme Pierrepont. As an older traveller I found the city centre a little daunting (I lived there in my 20s). I think it has was is called a "vibrant" atmosphere. Lots of different cultures rubbing shoulders which was lovely, and tons of students. Nice to go back for a visit

Very clean and pleasant traffic free city centre.
Very clean and pleasant traffic free city centre. Some nice high quality shops, with several empty unoccupied shops as in most city and town centres. It is over 40 years since my last visit and I feel sure it has improved since my last visit.

I'm a quiet person so I don't enjoy loud and busy streets. Too many dark areas and alleyways.
Plenty of places to eat though, varied selections.
Nice areas to walk as well with historic monuments.

Visiting Nottingham is a way to dive into real Middle England. It has a lot to feel a history, traditions, and people of England. Beautiful nature, and surrounding villages, informative and attractive museums (Museum of Justice and the Castle first of all), great Universities, full of students from all over the world, nice pubs with local beers and ales. All these create an unforgettable atmosphere of old England.

We went to rock city- affordable and great venue,
We did pit and pendulum, great gothic bar - prices mad reasonable compared to South. Proper cocktails.
Alchemist- great experience.
Loads of good shops,
Museum of curiosities,
Feel like the city is built on an underground history, so many basements and creepy places underground. Really good, and cheap compared to london/kent. Friendly people, users everywhere.
The location, perfect for a theatre visit with lots of local choice for pre theatre meals and after theatre drinks. We were upgraded to a premier double which was really comfortable. Clean, roomy, with a huge bed! And the best night's sleep in a long time. Breakfast was substantial and relaxed. Hotel staff were very helpful and friendly. Midday checkout meant no rush, and once parking was paid we could have as long as we liked to explore the city centre before picking up the car later. Really good value for money.
Clean, beautiful building with character, tastefully renovated throughout. The simple but large, comfortable room was very quiet - there is next to no road noise thanks to it being on a dead end street. The bathroom fittings, water pressure and temperature were great, which adds so much comfort. Parking is great. Last but not least, the staff are intelligent, polite, kind and courteous; they clearly care about their jobs, the hotel, and the guests’ experiences.
The property was freshly decorated and very clean. All the bedrooms were a decent size with comfy beds. Kitchen was well appointed with all you're likely to need and the outside toilet was a welcome addition as there is only one bathroom inside. Having the parking permits was also very welcome so we could park directly outside. There's a lidl and several shops nearby and walking into the city centre only takes 10mins.
very warm and surprisingly welcome . I had noted to the hotel that I with my fiancé Hanna visit Nottingham and she is visiting England for the first time , and the hotel surprised us with very nice and romantic room designed without extra charge . Also , quiet area , access to the public buses easily and near to city centre and good size of the room .
Location was great for my visit. Good facilities across the road including pubs, cafes and shops.
On the main bus route in and out of the city centre.
Parking immediately outside the hotel with room for about 10 cars plus nearby street parking.
Very friendly manager/owner who had only recently taken over. Informative and upbeat.
This is a lovely hotel, with really helpful friendly staff, our room was perfect, nice comfy beds, huge television and nice and clean with plenty of phone and electric sockets for devices room service and breakfast also first class. Will definitely be returning when we stay in Nottingham again.
It was a late finish for me and I did not get to the hotel until after 11.30pm. some road noise from the M1 and the bed wasn't very comfortable. Staff were friendly, place was clean and modern.
The retro Raliegh pictures throughout the property are brilliant.
location was great considering the value for money, only a 10 minute walk into the city centre. the whole system of a code to get into the building and rooms is really efficient. i would definitely stay there again if i were to be back in nottingham.
The Friendly Welcoming Staff at Reception.
The Absolute Cleanliness of the Rooms
Better than some Big Budget Name Hotels.
Quirky Bedroom Names lol.
Excellent Value for Money.
Couldn't Ask for More with the City Centre Location.
It was in a great area for shopping, groceries and food. Bus stop right outside so to catch the bus to the City Centre which was only about 15 mins. Even though it was right on a busy roadway the sound of traffic was no bother.
Great location in the city centre with nice views from the room we were given. The staff are helpful and the reception area is nice. Parking isn't cheap, but the discount from the hotel makes it a little better.
This lovely boutique hotel is across a walkway from the train station. It is charming. This was my third stay. Very quaint with a lovely tea room. I would not stay anywhere else in Nottingham.
Comfortable hotel. Great location for getting around and about in Nottingham City and near the Castle.
