FAQs about hotels in Cambridge

The Inspiration for Genius

Open-plan and open-minded, Cambridge is best known for university colleges dating to the 13th century. King’s College is the most popular, and its chapel choir is internationally famous. Although accessed from cobbled King’s Parade, it is best viewed from a punt on The Backs, the part of the River Cam behind.

Cambridge punting is an institution and gives great views of Queen’s College Mathematical Bridge and the Bridge of Sighs at St John’s College. Upstream is Jesus Green, site of an outdoor pool and a fantastic beer festival. Next to this is Midsummer Common, a park home to the annual Strawberry Fair (and the occasional cow). Opposite are the college boathouses - get up early to see the rowers in action!

Cows also roam the Mill Pond meadow, where the river leads south to Grantchester, a quaint village with a lovely cafe. Places to eat in Cambridge include riverside restaurants and typical English pubs like The Eagle, drinking hole of DNA founders Watson & Crick.

Cambridge shopping options include a daily market (in Market Square), the Grafton Centre and the exclusive Grand Arcade, the latest addition. The Scott Polar Museum and free Fitzwilliam Museum are 2 of many fantastic Cambridge museums.

Stansted Airport is connected by train to the city’s accommodation choices on Booking.com.

It's a lovely town with a lively centre, and lovely old buildings. The river is charming, and it's very relaxed. People can go punting on the river, or eat / drink in one of the pubs and restaurants that look onto it. All the high street shops are here, and there's a market in the central square. Prices are high enough here, as it's constantly busy, so you don't really get last minute bargains. Therefore, book early!

Cambridge is a very pretty place with lots of charm & historical interest. We filled each day just discovering its magic! We watched the heron just standing in a stream. We saw huge swathes of blue windflowers near to The Backs. Delightful!

    What a beautiful city!

What a beautiful city! Lots of lovely walks, beautiful architecture, friendly people, delicious coffee (tried Hot Numbers and Bould Brothers) and vegan food spots (Chai Walla is fully vegan and Venezuelan stall at the market had delicious option), shopping, good transport links. Would also highly recommend punting, you won't regret it, especially if you are lucky to get good guide who tells most interesting facts of colleges and bridges. I booked directly online with Rutherford's Punting, that's probably cheaper than buying in person.

Like all the old university cities, Cambridge is brimming with quintessential British charm. Every central street is a new adventure, and it is easy to navigate on foot. I would go during the university holidays but not during the school holidays or the summer, when it gets very busy.

Cambridge is a wonderful architectural town steeped in history with one of the most prestigious universities in England. The centre of Cambridge has a surprising number of green areas and the streets are attractive, many with cobble streets in the centre. The market is thriving unlike so many in modern days and street food is highly recommended, there are a number of independent shops around as well as the expected high street stores but a new shop for me Soctopus was rather quirky. Cambridge centre is easy enough to get around on foot though can be uneven underfoot in certain places, particularly with the cobbles, however, do expect plenty of people to be around, especially in the summer when numerous tourists flock to the area. If you don't mind the variable English weather then I would definitely recommend Cambridge in the winter/ early spring months when there are far fewer people around. The great thing is that the punts provide blankets when it is cold and some umbrellas when wet, the fudge kitchen you can prebook to have a go at making your own, a definite recommend for something different to do and you get to enjoy your hard work at the end trying some delicious fudge. There is plenty to do with a wide variety of museums. I particularly enjoy the Antarctic Museum and the natural history and fitzwilliam museum.

This is an old inn used for travelers since the 1600’s. It is beautifully restored and our room certainly met our expectations. The staff was pleasant and helpful. We enjoyed the full English breakfast, which cost an additional £15 each. Lots of meat!!! Plenty of parking and well lit. The church next door was a fun treat, which we visited the morning we left. John took us through the church and proudly told us about it. What a great start on the day. We stsyed here while visiting nearby Cambridge.

The staff is very friendly and helpful from check in to check out. The gym with access to sauna and jacuzzi is far better than your average 'hotel gym' that you see at so many hotel chains, to include two Peloton bikes. The rooftop bar is an excellent place to enjoy a drink with very friendly servers. Valet parking is required due to the location, and they are very proactive on bringing your car when scheduled. This will be my must stay location in Cambridge from now on.

The hotel is located near the station (although it's a longer walk into the centre of Cambridge). The room was small but comfortable and there was an actual bathtub, not just a shower. The breakfasts were very good. The staff were lovely and so helpful. The man on reception when I arrived called a local restaurant to book a table for me because the hotel restaurant isn't open yet and then took my case to my room.

Hotel had very good facilities and staff were very helpful. The breakfast was lovely too and there was a great choice. Town was a bit of a trek but taxis are available but can be expensive. Local bus is the best, a short walk to the bus stop and takes about 15 mins. Very reasonable price aswell. We did enjoy our stay and Cambridge is a great place. We will definitely visit again.

The Summerhouse was clean, furnished in good taste, and had most things we needed. Our host was helpful and friendly. He provided us with the milk of our choice on arrival and a change of towels during the week. Girton is close to Cambridge city centre, so it is easy to get anywhere.
