Guatemala is a very friendly country, filled with incredible Mayan ruins, exotic birdlife, and stunning volcanoes. We spent time in Flores, Tikal, Antigua, Xela and Lake Atitlan. We also spent several days hiking, including volcano treks and staying with families in homestays, properly experiencing the local communities. Our hike up Acatenango and a night spent watching Volcan de Fuego erupt was one of the most incredible experiences of my life.
We were nervous about the reports of crime but we felt safe the whole time albeit we remained cautious and alert. We travelled on the local buses, and people were always helpful getting us off at the right stop and on to the next correct bus.

Guatemala is just a unique and diverse country, filled with new experiences waiting for you. Unless you take the time to get to know some Guatemalans, it won’t be a complete stay. From Atitlan lake to colonial Antigua, to the coast and up into the Mayan ruins of Tikal, you won’t find a more interesting and friendly country on earth! Traffic is tough in the capital and a bit curvy in the high mountains. Food is always fresh and delicious with beans, rice, corn and fresh fruit always. Check out Santo Domingo in Antigua for the nicest colonial ambience and wedding destination from around the world.

Antigua is a must see when you're in Guatemala.
Antigua is a must see when you're in Guatemala. It's just an hour away, and it is best if you go for a tour guide as they give you a very complete feel of the Guatemalan culture that is mixed of Mayan and Spanish culture

Fantastic place to visit.
Fantastic place to visit. We got to see most of the main sights during our two weeks but it was very busy...I'd suggest taking a little longer to see the country (as there's a lot of mini-bus travel) or booking in a few relaxing days at the end of the trip.
I have stayed several times in Zone 10 in Guatemala City at some of the better-known named hotels. The Inmaculada beat them out easily. The hotel is in a quieter area of Zone 10, still very safe, and about a 5minute walk to the popular Oakland Mall. The staff was friendly and helpful and the room was large and comfortable. There was a small issue with hot water which is not unusual in Guatemala.
The breakfast, which came with my room, was excellent. There were many choices and it was cooked to order. I will definitely stay here again.
The hotel lobby and common areas were really pretty. The room was larger than I expected. The staff was very helpful. They were able to satisfy every special request that I had. One evening one of the staff even walked with me to a nearby restaurant to make sure I got there ok. This part of the city is very safe, or so it seemed to me. There is a good restaurant directly across the street serving a mix of Italian and French cuisine, with some new style flair. I would recommend it also.
We had a 30 minute wait to check in as our room was not available at 3pm. We were offered a room upgrade at an extra charge which we accepted. The upgrade was beautiful. the panoramic view was perfect, room was clean, spacious, bed was comfortable. The hotel is located in Zone 10 which is a safe zone of Guatemala city and everything within walking distance. The airport was about a 10 minute drive from us as well. I would definitely stay there again.
Very Impressed with Hotel Clarion in Guatemala City. Located in Zone 10 (best district) Filtered drinking water in the rooms, Comfortable beds, Great crew. The sidewalks in this district look like Jade tiles. Great restaurant with good food and drink selection. The breakfast is located in a jungle setting with draping vines, tropical plants, Rock caves and and a waterfall. Best place to stay in Guatemala City. 5 stars.
I needed a place to stay close to the airport for an early flight and didn’t want to get into the center of the city. This was the perfect place, at walking distance from the airport. The flat is well equipped, calm and clean, and the communication with the owner was smooth and easy. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a place close to Guatemala Airport!
My flight was a very late arrival, the shuttle driver met me at the airport, and the hotel staff was very welcoming. The room was really comfortable, and breakfast was very pleasant. As an exhausted traveler, Hotel Mariana was bright spot in a very long journey fraught with delays. Looking forward to staying with them on our next visit to Guatemala City.
A great guesthouse, held by very nice landlords who are very helpful. There is a very nice terrace and the neighbourhood is very peaceful. The house is very close to the airport and the owners can organize a free shuttle for you. It is the best place to stay for everyone arriving to Guatemala City in the late afternoon or evening.
This is a family hostel / hotel located in a gated residential part of guatemala City. The hosts were really nice, kind, and attentive. My room was kinda upgraded when I complained about the shared bathroom not having a hot enough water for me to shower. They did their best to accommodate, which is remarkable.
Excellent big size studio with large windows and a very nice view of Guatemala City and landscape (14th floor). large bed, large TV screen, couch and a small kitchen. Very comfortable and luxurious. fast internet. absolutely fair rate even considering below negative aspects. This kind of studios are worth it.
Very well placed in Zone 4, the hostel has everything to make you have a great stay in Guatemala City. It is very close to many restaurants and supermarkets and the city center is only 30 minutes far on foot. The receptionist is one of the most helpful I have ever met.
It's a very nice, cosy apartment in the middle of Guatemala City. It gives you a lot of comfort and silence within such a big and chaotic city.
Everyone's very helpful and they really want to make your stay nice and comfortable.
Shuttle service to the airport; most hotels in the city do not have this service anymore. Also, the reservations staff are very helpful, easy to reach and quick to reply. Contact-free checkout is a great idea these days.
Beautiful hotel close to the airport and a great location to walk around the city. The breakfast was delicious and the pool and hot tub was wonderful. Highly recommend. Was able to check in early for an extra fee.
Stayed for 2 nights on the nights we flew in and out of guatemala city. Both nights the rooms were clean, the staff was really friendly and helpful. For the price, it was perfect.
I was in Guatemala City for a week long conference. The AC Marriott proved a comfortable home base, situated in the Cayalá neighborhood (with good options for dining out).
