Most museums were closed and so we had very few options to do. Most shops were also closed. We still enjoyed checking out the historical architecture... the old town was really sweet, lots to admire. Roman remains, Renaissance buildings, Fire Tower, good coffee and good food :)

Sopron is a pleasant relaxed city.
Sopron is a pleasant relaxed city. We appreciated the relative quietness of the place and that we could wander around without bumping into crowds. The old town is charming, and the 'Healing Pit' (Gyógy Gödör) is a great pub/restaurant. The food and drinks are delicious and the service is very good.

I use this hotel every time I am in Sopron on business, average two times a year unless it is fully booked up. It is under new management ( I have used it for 15 years ). The one criticism of the hotel is that checkout is at 10AM whereas most hotels of this standard checkout at 12, and that was the case before the new management took over. Beware!

Nice town close to Austrian border.
Nice town close to Austrian border. The center is very nice, and there are evident signs of a great past (starting from Romans). There is not a lot to see, besides the walk around the walls and some visits to the Tower and the historical landmarks in the Fo Ter. One full day, for the center, is enough in my view.

I can recommend Sopron as the place for various activities.
I can recommend Sopron as the place for various activities.
Historical monuments - the town has nice historical centre with many old houses (in course of renovation), churches and town walls.
Wine and Gastronomy - Go to the Tourist Information Office and ask for the guide: there are very good tips for restaurants with traditional Hungarian cuisine. For wine there are 2 very nice winebars or you can taste the wine in wine cellars.
Nature - the starting point to visit Lake Fertö National Park
SPA - I would recommend the thermal spa in Hegykö (15 minutes by car from Sopron)
Sopron is beautiful and this guesthouse in a very old building with a cellar sits close to its historical center. The interior courtyard is amazing as well. The room was large, clean, decorated with tasyeyand we also had a free upgrade actually. The staff was responsive and helpful. We could park the car in a free payment place near the guesthouse, even if we were told about this the second day at breakfast and not initially. Breakfast was one of the best we had in 8 nights stay at similar price in Hungary.
Very centrally located and convenient to reach the main square (~5mins walk). The apartment is very well equipped and just super nicely designed. We really noted the attention to details.
We had everything we needed and we felt very comfortable. We would highly recommend this place for your stay in Sopron. Parking is right in front of the building with park payment machines available. Hosts very welcoming and made everything to make our stay a perfect one :)
The owner is very nice! We didn't manage to activate the electrical stove and the owner and his wife came within 5 mins to help us get it working! The rooms are very clean and big enough for all the luggage and there's a small balcony which you can sit there. Few minutes by car from Sopron center. Enjoyed the stay in here, thank you Peter!
Nice hotel, friendly stuff, Breakfast and dinner with good variety.
We especially liked the very nicely designed children's playroom :)
Location is also very good, easy to reach from the mainroad with parking possibilities, but no real noise to be heard in the room. New and nice SPA area on the top floor with sauna and jacuzzi.
I actually stayed in their other hotel in the city, Hotel Palatinus, because I received a message the day of my arrival that the Civitas had heating trouble. However I was given the same type of accommodation. The room was nice, recently refurbished. Parking on site in secure location. Breakfast was good.
Most of all: the friendliest staff I ever met! Excellent Hungarian food, and even people with gluten allergy are being taken car of. I liked the spa very much too. Wonderful environment and comfortable rooms for a very reasonable price. Nice, quite hotel, ideal for families and the elderly.
I would like to thank to Karmelita Boutique Apartment because it has beautiful garden, comfortable apartments, fresh air and water, wonderful and kind treatment of the owners and their hospitality and tourism management system. This apartment is the best one in Sopron,Hungary.
Almost everything, with a few little additions this apartment could be absolutely perfect for a few nights' stay in Sopron. Dimitry is an amazing host, flexible, knowledgable and funny as well. Excellent location, comfortable beds, sitting areas and some amazing artwork.
Great selection of fresh food for breakfast, and also for dinner. Very helpful and nice staff.
Nice location, starting points for adventures right at the corner. Very silent hotel, really great for relaxing and sleeping.
Teapot and tee in the room was excellent.
Lovely large apartment in Central Sopron. Very quiet with tasteful decor and many thoughtful extras. This made it a super comfortable place to stay for our nine days.
Krysztina was a great host and made us feel very welcome.
We will return for future visits.
Beautiful and quiet locations outside of the city. Hidden gem ! Felt like a brand new hotel with Gothic charm. Dinning was excellent! Dinner and breakfast included with stay. Exceptional staff, friendly and courteous.
Very nice facilities, great staff. Breakfast was varied, nicely served, excellent coffee and warm dishes. The hotel is new, very pleasing to the eye. Great basement where we could taste wine.
The bathtub in the room is a nice plus, and the wellness area is very nice and clean. The staff was nice, everyone speaks English and they are generally open to please your needs.
