Overlooking the tranquil waters of Lough Leane, colourful Killarney is a top Irish tourist destination. The UNESCO-listed Killarney National Park surrounds Muckross House, a stately home sitting in large grounds with a traditional farm.
A tree-lined lane leads to Muckross Abbey, a former Franciscan monastery whose cloisters enclose a tall yew tree. Celtic crosses line the cemetery and beyond is the lake, at the centre of which is a tree-lined outcrop, home of the historic Ross Castle. This 15th-century stone fortress once housed the O’Donoghue clan, one of whom reportedly lives at the bottom of the lough.
More legends envelop the Ring of Kerry – a scenic drive starting from Killarney and supposedly the last place to spot a leprechaun. Gushing Torc waterfall is just one of its fantastic sights.
In Killarney itself, horse-drawn carts roam narrow streets whose Irish pubs offer great nightlife. Impressive St Mary’s Cathedral has a towering spire and somewhat dark interior. The local gaelic football team play at Fitzgerald Stadium, and more sports can be enjoyed at Killarney riding stables and the nearby golf and fishing club. There is also a popular racecourse.
Accommodation in Killarney on Booking.com includes 5-star lakeside hotels, B&Bs near the train station and town centre guest houses. All with that trademark Irish hospitality.
We had a great time. Went to a Fureys concert, did the Ring of Kerry, visited the Tralee museum, had a super Indian meal, the Guinness was super. It's my 8th visit to Killarney. I'm finding the prices are getting much higher in town.

Nice dining in Killarney. Beautiful surroundings.
Nice dining in Killarney. Beautiful surroundings. Muckross Abbey an House are beautiful
Ring of Kerry is nice but if you dare take the Ballaghbeama Gap road. Breathtaking views. Not sure if it is doable in the summer because the road is small but I recommend it

Killarney is a beautiful town, and it's best to visit outside of tourist season. We enjoyed the parks and the shopping area, and the whole town is easy to walk about. We rented a car to drive around the Ring of Kerry, and I would have taken more than one day to drive it, or would have taken a bus just to hit the highlights.

Killarney and the surrounding areas are picturesque.
Killarney and the surrounding areas are picturesque. We have been travelling to Killarney for many years and can honestly say that County Kerry is one of the most beautiful areas in Ireland. There are many places to visit as well as many restaurants for all ages.

The town itself is quite touristy which was positive in that it was still lively in late October, but perhaps doesn't offer an authentic Irish experience! However, it’s great fun, with lots of shops and pubs and bars to visit.
The best bit of Killarney though is the wonderful National Park which is right next to the town centre. It is home to red and Japanese Sika deer, it has lakes and castles and walking trails for all abilities. Definitely worth a look!
The town is also a great base for exploring the Ring of Kerry, and the Beara and the Dingle Peninsulas.
Staff is amazing and I think that is what really makes the difference between a 5 star and a 4 star hotel. We stayed 1 night just after the reopening in June and everything seemed under control, we never felt rushed, and although the hotel was fully booked, we never felt like there was too many people there. We cannot say the same for other 4 star hotels in the area that we found quite chaotic in comparison...! Beautiful spa (probably one of the best in Ireland), very talented chefs in the restaurant. We will come back for sure!
Of all the places we stayed in our nearly 3 week trip in Ireland, the Killarney Lodge was our favorite. The location is excellent as it is steps away from the entrance to the national park, rail station, shops and restaurants but it is not in the noisy and congested city center. The hotel’s grounds and its interior decorations and furnishings were impeccably clean and attractive. The staff was vey knowledgeable and helpful. And breakfasts were filled with healthful and flavorful options. Would definitely come back.
Absolutely beautiful property that sits right outside the town centre. The interiors of the reception, room, and restaurant/bar were sophisticated, and well kept. Our room exceeded our expectation in size and it had everything we needed. The staff was just so lovely and hospitable. They let us use their lounge prior to check-in and after check-out so we could work, and gave us great suggestions for our trip. I would highly recommend this hotel, it was truly a wonderful experience all around.
Clean, comfortable, well-appointed B&B on a quiet, residential street. Breakfast was piping hot and delicious. Mary made sure to check in with us daily about our stay and how we were enjoying Ireland. On our last night, we had pre-booked a taxi for the morning, but in the morning, it said none were available. Mary got us straight with a local taxi right away.
This was the most beautiful and unique hotel we stayed in during our two weeks in Ireland. The attention to detail was unparalleled, such as fresh flowers throughout the lobby and beautiful decor. The pool was a hit with my son and the bar and breakfast rooms had easy, lovely meals. Staff were extremely friendly and attentive.
Great value option for a Killarney stay. The lobby area is stunning, excellent friendly staff and service, rooms very comfortable, with nice little touches, shower pressure was excellent. Location is close to the National Park - just opposite the Lake Hotel- with views of the mountains, and a short drive from the town centre.
Fabulous hotel set in gorgeous grounds, with beautiful walks around the hotel and nearby. The room was spacious and comfortable and the breakfast had plenty of choice to suit all tastes and expectations. The staff were warm, polite, friendly and professional. A short walk to the town centre (15 mins stroll)
Nice hotel with excellent food, nice to have a bar too. Was a bit further from the town centre than I would have liked especially on rainy days. The staff were very friendly & helpful. Had a problem with a group holding a party in the room next door at 3am on the first night but that was dealt with.
Rooms were bright, clean and comfortable. The breakfast was excellent and served with a smile. Location was perfect for a short walk into town center. Declan was an exceptional gentleman and outstanding host. Their attention to COVID precautions was the best we experienced in Ireland.
in town centre and staff were really nice, the night porter i didn’t catch his name but he was the one unlocking the door at night and letting guests in he was very friendly and cracked a few jokes with us reminded me of the night porter in the hotel i work with myself 😃
Sandra and John were wonderful hosts. Very pleasant and helpful with directions, recommendations, anything we needed. Short walk to the downtown area with all the shops, restaurants, etc. Yet quiet area. Would stay again if ever back in Ireland. Definitely recommend.
Everything…. Room was very comfortable and clean. Staff were very attentive and had very calm demeanours which leant to a very relaxing environment. Hotel location is very near the town centre, walking distance but no noise that would match town centre location.
room was amazing, location great, walking distance to town centre and national park.
Had dinner in their sister hotel on 2 nights great food abd very reasonably priced. Spa facilities were also excellent.
Great value for money. Excellent facilities for a small hotel/guest house. Lovely breakfast and staff were welcoming and friendly. Great location, quiet but within walking distance of the town centre.
Lovely room, breakfast, and hosts! Only a few kms from town centre, so was in a nice quiet area but still convenient since we had a car. And minutes from Muckross House and various hiking trails.
All the staff were very friendly and warm. The decor is very ornate. Breakfast service was fast and watching the team work was a wonder. Location okay, 10-15 minute walk from the town centre.
We were central of the town centre, as soon as you walked outside the hotel there was plenty of places to dine, plenty of shops and pubs around, less than a minutes walk from national park
The location of the hotel is ideal not far from the town centre and national park, a view of the river.
Highly recommend eating at the pub at the hotel fantastic food and service.
