Only stayed here for one night, as we were planning to take the government tourist ferry from Alleppey to Kollam. However we were told that the ferry stopped running over 2 years ago and their website has not been updated to reflect this.

We were only interested in discovering the backwaters and we were not disappointed. The town was very hectic and in the humid heat we found it too much to walk around. Alleppey beach was disappointing. It’s cast and has no shade. The sand is very hot. The overnight houseboat trip was the best thing.

Our first experience in kerala and on the boat house...
Our first experience in kerala and on the boat house unfortunately it's just a commercial scam for the locals around, the so called captain and his assistant of the boat were so untidy certain parts of the boat was in a terrible condition not even toilet paper in the toilet
Once in the village of the back waters the captain forces you to use his recommendations for kerala massage as he gets his commission etc you not free to do as you wish they all make money of you , after your massage he instructs you to tip the staff at the parlour
Word of caution not all massage parlors along backwaters are medically approved or recognized they just have the title ayurvedic Dr etc
Prices vary at different clinics they don't like tourists going around
We found them charging us double the rate per person because we tourists
Our main reason for visiting kerala was to have my wife's leg treated after an accident
They made her leg worse and hurt her during the massage
The kitchen on the boat was filthy and unhygienic they expected us to eat in that condition
The owners of the boat should do something about this its bad for tourists
We didn't spend the night even though we paid full
After a kerala massage you need hot water to shower the house boats don't have hot water
No one advises tourists of these situations

Alleppey is perfect as a getaway from the humdrum of the city - far from the madding crowd, if you need a day or two to indulge in being lazy and laidback. Best to canoe around the backwaters, or take a shikara-ride (which comes @2000 INR for three hours) every other day and relax. Feel the calmness of the place, and allow it the tactility of it to seep in. As we floated around the backwaters, we did not even feel like talking for those three hours....coming from a metro, for me, it was pure bliss to experience the silence of the place and its lush greenery.

Avoid the city center if possible, and find a homestay located in the outskirts/backwaters to make the most of tranquility and beauty of this region. Do take an organized canoe or boat tour, but also give yourself some time to walk around/explore the backwaters by yourself...government ferries run often and can bring you to boat jetties at different locations around the Alleppey backwaters...Kainakary, Kavalam, Thattasserry. Rajapuram Toddy Parlour, located next to a government boat jetty in Kavalam, is an especially nice place to sip toddy and eat fish curry while taking in the beautiful scenery.
Nothing.
The property is not ready for stay. SO we could not stay. Plus the location shown on the Bookings.com website is far from the actual location. No reception for the guest. We were sent to another hotel as this hotel did not have water supply.
The whole process took almost 2-3 hours to find the actual location and then going to alternate location as asked by them and ultimately we had to search for hotel for our own, leaving whole family in extreme discomfort.
Bad experience
The hotel is having specious clean rooms with balcony, bathrooms and ample parking area. The staffs are found polite and helpful every time. A great place to stay for those looking for privacy and peace with approachable major tourist attractions as well as local market.
Recently they have started in-house restaurant with limited breakfast and dinner options but the test is very good. Overall, it is a good budget friendly option for those who don’t want to opt houseboat in Alleppey.
A wonderful homestay property with a highly recommended host (couple). They did everything they could to make us comfortable and well served. The property itself is perched on the banks of the river with very nice touches. I was presently surprised to see the kayaks and we did enjoy a short outing on a beautiful sunset evening. Listening to the bird songs in the morning was totally worth it, and so was watching some lazy cruising boats on a not so busy water channel (thankfully).
It's was great staying at Kalappura homestay, the owner is very friendly and took time talking to us about everything. The room was very spacious, clean and he even gave us a better room than we booked! The breakfast was great too. It's really close to the city centre of Alleppey, but in a quiet neighborhood. We really enjoyed our stay, will definitely come back here if we ever will be back in Alleppey!
It was a great experience for us as this was the first time visiting Kerala..And we were hosted in Dune Homes in Alleppey which seems to be highly hygiene n comfortable for us .We experienced the dishes of Kerala, which were provided for us, with great love n affection...
Hope this homes will provide all the guests a homely atmosphere, who will visit Allephy
.
I've had a perfect stay at Venitia. It's located in a peaceful, lushful and friendly neighborhood in Alleppey. The whole family are very nice and gave me a warm welcome. And the food there is amazing. The mom is a great cook, believe me !
Also the room was very clean,
When I come back to Alleppey I will definitely stay there again.
Recently I came to visit this place. Ambience is so calm and peaceful. Excellent service and very friendly staffs. Rooms are very clean. This place is just 100m away from alleppey beach and railway station is near by. There homley food taste is excellent . Definitely i will back to this property
Absolutely loved our stay here in alleppey
Staff are friendly, welcoming and will attend to any of your needs.
Beautiful views of the famous backwaters. nice
place to relax and adjust to the country
Tell the staff what you would like to eat in advance and they will kindly do their best to supply
The resort is at a scenic location by Punnamada lake in Alleppey. Houseboats go up and down in the daytime. The boats do not ply a night. However the place is not easily accessible due to its rather remote location.
The room was was clean with fresh bedsheets and towels.
Awesome place, awesome family and the breakfast they serve is the best food I had eaten in complete 1 week trip of Kerala..
Very near to the Beach, like 5 minutes walk…
Budget friendly as well…
Do checkout this place if you’re coming to Alleppey…..
Everything was perfect, the restaurant attached to the hotel was up to a very good standard, we ate there for every meal whilst in Alleppey and very reasonablely priced. The waiters were very attentive.
Loved the charm of Johnson’s. You can imagine the relaxed pre-Covid vibe. Johnson was charm personified and took a personal interest in us as a family and our stay with him and in Alleppey.
Never book here. I had bad experience with this. If you don't trust my comments, then you will regret staying here why you didn't listen to me. Only good thing of this is near beach.
The place is cleaner than a hotel. The host is interesting to talk to, and is extremely knowledgeable about tourism in Kerala. He helped me tailor a suit and find a wedding gift.
This hostel is new hostel! Price, Location, Staff are amazing. In particular, Manager and Jin will help you in case of trouble. Have a great journey in Alleppey!
