A darling of Shakespeare, beautiful Verona is the literary home of Romeo and Juliet. The medieval families of Montague and Capulet immortalized in the tragic play did actually exist and some buildings relating to the Montagues are still present.
Sorry to disappoint, but the place purporting to have been Juliet's house in Verona was not actually where she lived. However, it’s still worth suspending reality for a while and stepping out onto the balcony to see if Romeo turns up.
Another of the must-see Verona sights is the Arena, a largely intact Roman amphitheater which is now the spectacular setting for outdoor summer operas. Smaller Roman relics include the stone bridge that crosses the river by the Roman theater whose remains are partly beneath a house.
The city’s narrow streets house many cafes and restaurants which have cheaper fare than the touristy ones by the Arena, although admittedly the views are less impressive. Life in Verona is laid back and elegant, so expect to see some well-heeled Italians on a post-dinner passeggiata.
Verona Airport is a little out of town, so you’ll need to take a bus to get to your Verona hotel, apartment or B&B. Book with Booking.com for the best choice.

Obviously very popular with tourists but for us it was not about doing the usual tourist things but just walking the streets, finding places to eat away from the main tourist hub and just taking in the atmosphere of the place...its really a great place to just hangout!

Verona is a beautiful Italian city.
Verona is a beautiful Italian city. This was my second trip and I fell in love with it all over again. It is quite small, so two to three days would be perfect. We stayed right in the heart of the old town, on Via Leoncino, which is a short walk from the delightful Piazza Bra and the Arena. Almost everything is within walking distance, and I particularly loved sitting at one of the many outdoor cafes in Piazza Bra with my aperitivo, just watching the world go by! The city is full of wonderful cafes and restaurants - the problem is 'which one to choose' but one of our top recommendations is La Taverna Di Via Stella (on Via Stella), a short walk from another delightful square, Piazza delle Erbe, where we had a wonderful meal on our last night in Verona.

A wonderful city to visit.
A wonderful city to visit. I loved the pedestrianized old town nestled in the bend of the river. So much to see and wonder at on foot - the architecture, the extraordinary Piazza Erbe, the silent duomo, the river and museums, and the stunning Roman arena. The only waste of time was Juliet's balcony, though I think we have to be impressed by the skill in having taken something fictional and turning it into a very successful tourist goldmine!
It was my first time in Verona and I loved it. Not as overwhelming as the "big 3" (Rome, Florence, Venice). Though humming in the daytime, it was relatively quiet at night and very navigable and safe - which was important for this solo female traveller.

Super stunning city.
Super stunning city. I came as a solo traveller (29F) and felt very safe. It’s a romantic city but not as overtly as I feared which was nice. Sadly it rained a lot while I was there - Verona isn’t great for rainy days as there’s so much to see from walking but I still had a good time.
Shopping was surprisingly great there - better than shopping in London. Just a nicer experience. As with everywhere in Italy, everywhere you look it’s pretty. Every street and building. Again v different to London lol.
People weren’t keen to speak to me in Italian. I don’t blame them, my Italian is terrible but they could have humoured me for like ten seconds
Will def come back - but not in Feb. This isn’t somewhere to go for crazy nights out but it’s so well connected by train - Venice, Florence, Milan… even Rome in three hours. Can imagine it’s beaut in the summer.

This is a very traditional B&B in a great location . there are only 2 rooms and we were the only ones staying there so had the place to ourselves. It was the family home however they no longer live there so was more like an Air B&B but very lovely. Breakfast is help youself to continental from the fridge and our host brought in fresh bread every morning. It would have been nice to have some fruit available with the yoghurts and cereal.
There is a lovely little roof terrace off the dining area. The bedroom was big with a comfortable bed and lovely view.the ensuite was modern with everything you need apart from a full length mirror!

This is a beautiful city in a really nice part of Italy.
This is a beautiful city in a really nice part of Italy. Verona is a 1 or 2 day break with enough to do to cover that amount of time. We bought a Verona card which meant we could visit all the sites free of charge and jump the queue which was worth its weight in gold we loved it. The city itself has beautiful buildings and piazzas and we went on Valentine’s Day during their festival which was a fantastic experience including dancing live music and other activities. We recommend doing a day trip by train to Garda, Venice, Bologna or Milan which are all within 2 hours approx and the trains from Verona station are so easy to use and cheap!
Lovely building in a great location, it was nicely decorated, clean and spacious. We really liked the room and the mini bar was a nice touch and cheap! The city centre was about an 8 minute walk right to the centre so absolutely perfect. The hosts were very friendly and gave us some great advice on getting to the hotel from the airport. There was ample space to hand and store clothes and cases and the shower was lovely as well, powerful and nice temperature. The room itself was nice and clean with everything we could need for a short stay.
Modern room, big bathroom, comfy bed, amenities available, excellent breakfast (consisting of pastries such as various crossaints, american pancakes and etc), choice of eggs, different kind of salami (including turkey), fruits corner, very tasty coffee from coffee machines.
Note to everyone, check in and breakfast is in a nearby hotel for this venue in particular (located one next to each other). However, do not let that discourage you in booking here as it will meet all of your expectations during your stay in Verona :).
It is located right between the train station and the historic center, so not a long walk on either direction. The hotel is simple but it was a comfortable stay. The room was clean and had a good size, and the staff was helpful. The bed is a bit too hard for my taste, but we noticed this to be a pattern in this region of Italy, so perhaps just a local pattern and a matter of individual preference. Great staff, very friendly and helpful!
We had been staying in the Dolomites for a week and then just finished our Italian trip staying just 3 days in Verona so that we could go to see the Opera Rigoletto in the open air Roman Arena. The boutique hotel was really lovely with stylish furnishings. The bathroom was modern and fully fitted out. We had breakfast that included really delicious pastries made on the premises by a very pleasant lady who also served us our breakfast.
The room was very large and had everything we needed. It actually had a few American outlets which would be nice if you needed it. Most rooms in Italy do not which is why I am noting that. It has that old Italian charm vibe. An amazing location for shopping and sight seeing. Staff let us late checkout and keep our car in the garage after checkout so we could do some more shopping.
The location was superb, the room was small but pleasant and the breakfast was the best I have come across in Italy as besides the usual continental breakfast it included scrambled eggs, small sausages and bacon as well as fresh fruit and yogurt.
When my laptop could not connect to the hotel wifi, one of the employees let me connect to her mobile phone as a hotspot!
Verona is the most beautiful city in Italy, and the Hotel Porta Palio is great value for the price. It has a free private parking garage on site. The staff was extremely nice and helpful. The hotel is just an 8-10 minute taxi drive from old town Verona (8-12 Euros). The hotel breakfast was great, and we enjoyed our stay.
For 10 days traveling in Italy, this was the best place getting through the booking. I am so pleased with this place. beautiful bedroom design make me speechless. Verona it is 2 miles away you can park your car and visit beautiful city . if I come back to Verona I will make sure to rent this place again thank you
This stunning small hotel was a highlight of my Italy trip! Decorated in modern Italian, antiques and kitsch with a lovely breakfast spread. The bed was so comfy I did not want to leave. Staff was welcoming and fun as I tried to use my basic Italian-- they, of course, spoke perfect English. Verona is a sweet town.
Perfect apartment for a trip to Verona! Everything in the apartment is at a 5 stars hotel level., decorated with love for details and hand picked items. Andrea takes time for his guests, sharing valuable insider tips for exploring the city.
We will definitely come back, so happy to have found this place.
The apartment is like a 5 star hotel room. It is elegantly decorated, spotlessly clean and located in a quiet neighbourhood a short walk from the arena. The host, Daniel, is so welcoming and helpful - he knows everything about Verona!
Alberto was very helpful and friendly. Went out of his way to make our Verona stay and the rest of our stay in Italy amazing! Marco was very welcoming, even getting in after midnight after a very long travel in.
Quirky and fun hotel. staff outstanding in particular Matt and Roxana. Great location 10 min walk from centre and 20 min walk to bus and train station which has superb links to explore more of Italy.
The hostess were very kind and helpful which was rare in italy. the way of how they designed the hotel, parking and garden were magnificent. Really I enjoyed the stay in Verona because of the hotel.
Large room, perfect location, free parking, good breakfast. Unlike other people's complaints, the shower in my room was great 👍 memory foam bed. friendliest staff in Italy.
The welcome by our host to a beautiful apartment in lovely Verona. We will recommend visiting Verona and this apartment to all our friends visiting Italy.
The staff was very helpful and friendly. The room was quite big and there was air conditioner -it is a must in Italy while travelling during summer! :)
