Hotel Centrale Europa, hotel in Catania

Set right opposite Piazza Duomo in the heart of the historic centre of Catania, Hotel Centrale Europa boasts a welcoming atmosphere and picturesque views of Piazza Duomo and the Elephant Fountain.

Hotel has an "antique atmosphere" and only stairs to the upper floors. Room was comfortable, quiet if you close the windows, bed was good. Television and wifi was working, there was a fridge in the room. Location is the best, right in the old centre of Catania next to Piazza del Duomo, 2 minutes walking to the fish market and 5 minutes walking to Borsellino bus station to take Alibus to the airport (buy ticket on the bus) or Interbus to Syracusa (buy ticket at the ticket office). Eateries, bars, shops and night life are all around. Other attractions such as Castello Ursino and the Greco-Roman Antique Theater are only 5-10 minutes walking away.

Hotel Villa Romeo is just a 2-minute walk from Catania Train Station and the bus stop to visit Mount Etna.

We liked everything, the room was impressive in terms of the design and clean, the location is convenient if you use the train and buses to move around. It’s also very close to all the main view points (10 min by feet). The breakfast was also good, even though not much variety, but for us it’s totally ok - there was all we needed. We really enjoyed the stay.

FAQs about hotels in Catania

A Perfect Combination of Ancient and Modern

Located on Sicily’s eastern coast, at the foot of Mount Etna, Catania is the island’s second largest city. This charming destination features unique Sicilian Baroque architecture, large squares, avenues and a very important port.

On the northern side of the Cathedral Square, the historical Palazzo degli Elefanti houses the Town Hall of Catania. The Elephant Fountain is the city’s symbol and the entrance to the main shopping area. Surrounded by stunning Baroque buildings, Piazza del Duomo is a popular meeting point for tourists and locals.

Dedicated to Saint Agata and built over the Roman Baths of Achilles, the Duomo has an impressive facade that is one of Gia Battista Vaccarini’s masterpieces. The cathedral’s dome dates to 1802, while in the vaulted interior is the grave of the well-known composer Vincenzo Bellini.

Facing the Ionian Sea, this beautiful seaside place is one the hottest Italian cities during the summer. Mount Etna is an active volcano and a nice place for skiing in winter or a trip to the solidified rivers of lava during the rest of the year.

With the busiest airport in Sicily, Catania-Fontanarossa Airport, Catania is easily accessible by numerous European destinations like Munich, Rome and London. You can stay in one of the Catania hotels, guest houses or hostels Booking.com offers.

Catania is a nice city .

Catania is a nice city . The market, the food, the Monasterio Benedictino. We wanted to go to the beach so we asked how were the beaches near the hotel and got recomendations for the public beach you can acced with the local bus. It was not a god experience, very dirty, ruined, and bus took ages to arrive

Catania history center was quite shocking.

Catania history center was quite shocking. Dirty, garbage on the streets, nobody cleans after the dogs, abandoned buildings, impressive old palaces uncured, decaying, facades ruined... However, the easygoing way gets under your skin in just a day or two. Lot of small eateries and bars where you can enjoy your food, coffee or drink and kind citizens, always ready to answer any question a tourist could have, beat the flaws. Palaces and city structure with long wide streets show the splendour this city had in the past. Pitty it doesn't apply for the present. It has so much potantial, and not only for tourism.

The city of Catania is an exceptionally dirty city, where the strong influence of past poverty is strongly felt. It's one of the uglier cities we've visited in Sicily, but it's definitely worth seeing and experiencing.

Catania is nice for a couple of days. You feel unsafe when you walk far from via Etnea. The main street is fantastic, the food is not expensive. A lot of churches to visit. If you can, visit Taormina and Cefalu. Magnificent places for one day tour.

Exploring the main sightseeings of Catania could be done within a day. If a tourist is more detailed and interested in spending time in museums, then they could easily do it in 2 days. Catania is a good accommodation base from where tourists can organize visits to other sightseeings in Sicily. Driving in Sicily (especially in Palermo and Catania) could be quite challenging for people not used to driving in an environment where there are rules which are not very much obeyed by the drivers.

Great city, quite industrial, good logistics. We travelled to Syracuse, Taormina, Aci Treze, Aci Costello, to the beach. There is a good market in Catania and a lot of shops. We cooked at the accommodation. Good drinks with red oranges in the bars, great ice-cream. We enjoyed the stay

The location was good, a few blocks from Piazza Duomo where restaurants and cafes are so at night had some movement but the hotel was far enough that you didn't hear any noice. The room was big in size, the bed super comfy, bathroom well ventilated. Small shower but with good water pressure. Serena, the host/manager was very kind, helpful and spoke very good English...which I found is not common in Sicily. The room also had a water kettle and some coffee/tea/sugar for you to use. The bathroom had some toiletries too.

First of all, I liked Martina and her hospitality (100/100). Secondly, the facility itself was very clean and lastly of course the location. It was my honeymoon stay/base and it was the best decision. Martina helped us with useful suggestions/bookings/tips. I particularly enjoyed the fact that breakfast is served at the location and you get quite a variety of options. If you are looking for a comfortable, cozy and central location while in Catania/Sicily this is your best choice. I will be coming back!

It has a pool, is clean, has working AC, very good and varous breafast, staff speaks english! All the above is not obvious in Sycylia, and in Catania center. My wife and I had to stay in Sicily for an extra day because our flight got canceled. The airline didn't help us out with a hotel room, so we had to scramble and find a hotel close to the airport. We were pretty stressed and tired, but we lucked out when we found this gem of a hotel. Even though we rolled in super late, they treated us so well that we completely forgot about our flight hassles. I'd totally tell anyone to stay there!

The owner (Francesco) is super lovely person, met us at the airport and brought us to the hotel, never met such hospitality before, told us about all the good restaurants and asked his friend to help us get to the railway station the next day. If you want to know what is Sicilian hospitality and what a kind people live in Sicily - you should stay at this hotel

Absolutely gorgeous place. Don't let the outside fool you. Italy has so many old buildings Sicily too But the long winding steps ( a lot) no elevator was worth it. Maria was an angel I checked in early and she carried my heavy suitcase for me!! Only thing I didn't like was they sent me two text stating if I lost a key or did something (can't remember) id automatically be billed 200 euros Uh I don't think so

We liked the close proximity to Catania airport as we had an early morning flight. Our room was a good size, clean, fresh and still like new. There was a very good pizzeria (Simpsons) close by, would recommend the rucola, best pizza I have had on my 12 day stay in Sicily. There is also a good bar around the corner for coffees, drinks and sweet & savouries food.
