Edgy and eclectic, Palermo is a symbol of all that Sicily stands for. From buzzing Vespas to the bustling Vucciria market, it simply brims with life.
Wonderful Palermo Cathedral glows radiantly in the Mediterranean sun. Nearby is the city’s last Sicilian Puppet Theatre, and opposite is a palm-filled park housing Roman mosaics, though the best are in the archaeological museum. At one end is the Norman Palace, a government building home to the fabulous Cappella Palatina whose gold mosaics are absolutely breathtaking.
Equally magnificent are the gold mosaics lining 12th-century Monreale Cathedral on the city’s outskirts. Wander the cloisters and note the varying columns and capitals – each pair is different.
Palermo also has fascinating churches: 2 of the oldest are 12th-century San Giovanni degli Eremeti and San Cataldo, each with red, Islamic-style domes. Gesú Church has an incredible Sicilian Baroque interior, while La Martorana’s frescoes are awe-inspiring. A street away is Quattro Canti, a crossroads with a fountain at each corner.
Other attractions include round Teatro Massimo, Mondello beach and Monte Pellegrino mountain overlooking the sea. You get fabulous views of this picnic spot as you fly into Palermo Airport before heading to your Booking.com accommodation.
During the day we walked all over Palermo without concern.
During the day we walked all over Palermo without concern. I saw only one other person with a camera but almost everyone had a smartphone. Therefore, I put my "real" camera away and used my phone as a camera instead. At night, we joined the passeggiata on Via Maqueda where there were a lot of restaurants offering "tagliere" (antipasto severed on a wood plank, i.e. charcuterie board). There are seafood too, which we were looking for. There is plenty of opportunity for "street food" (arancini, Sfincione, spremute) in the street markets (Ballaro, Capo, Vucciria). It is one thing to expect a mix of architectural styles and another to see how a Greek temple was transformed by the Byzantines, and then by the Norman Swabians and then by the Aragonese Spanish. Layers of history, right in front of you.

Palermo is a beautiful combination of the past and present...
Palermo is a beautiful combination of the past and present colliding into a fantastic bouquet. This area was once one you would not want to visit on holiday. However, the crime is now controlled, the young people bring their positive energy to the streets, people are kind, and the market is bustling.

It is a great place to visit, so much to see.
It is a great place to visit, so much to see.
Great seafood in the Copa market, excellent food and locally grown vegetables
We enjoyed all the cathedral and churches. We visited Izis castle, it was great to see the inside but getting there walking was not fun, there was so much trash every where and hard to walk around, the park around the castle was really in the bad shape.
I wish local people and others place their cigaret buds in the trash rather than dropping them any where, Overall the city has been ignored and so much trash on the walking area. There were so much dog popo around and it was very hard to walk around the dog droppings.

Traffic is INSANE and there seems to be little organization to it. Plan on walking alot. Trains are inexpensive but only run every 30 minutes, so make sure not to miss it. The trains are very crowded and everyone just shoves there way on. You can buy allday pass for train or train and buses.
We did the old market one morning and the Capuchin catacombs that evening. Hire a guide for the catacombs for the best experience. Would have liked to spend 4-7 days here, but due to travel issues we only had 1.5 days.

There isn't much we liked about Palermo.
There isn't much we liked about Palermo. We booked a nice apartment with a very friendly host. The Marina was nice (but tiny), and a few cafes (Teco, Morettino CoffeeLab, Bar Vabres). Apart from that, it was a rather unpleasant experience: dirty, noisy, rainy (that's probably bad luck) and with many unfriendly people. We did not expect that.

So much history to Palermo.
So much history to Palermo. It's a gritty city and driving is the craziest I've ever experienced (but I loved it at the same time). Driving in Rome is simple compared to Palermo---but that is also the vibe.
We had a great tour with a great city historian and were fascinated to learn so much about all the past cultures of this city.
Quick trips to Monreale and Cefalu were great excursions. A longer trip to Agrigento was well worth it. We are so happy we decided to stay in Palermo.
The location of the property is amazing! One of the main steets is like a few minutes walk and despite of that the street of the apartament is calm, so you can have a good night sleep. Additionally, the property is very clean, comfortable and it offers delicious italian breakfast. The terrace gives you breathtaking views of the Palermo. Furthermore, the host ir very professional, hospitable, it seemed like you can ask Alessandro everything and get the best advices about the Palermo and all Sicily. Would definitely stay again!
Benny and B&B Tivitti saved me when I ran into an issue at my other accommodations. I called B&B Tivitti and spoke with Benny and he met me at the B&B five minutes later. As a solo traveler I was so grateful that he was so attentive to the issue I was experiencing and was able to get me a room so quickly. B&B Tivitti is perfect… clean, beautiful, the yummiest breakfast like one of the best breakfasts I’ve enjoyed in Sicily and Benny is super accommodating, helpful with recommendations, and just a wonderful person to know
One of the best apartment hotels I ever stayed in Italy. The location is great, right in the center close to most of the attractions. The apartment is newly renovated was very clean with attention to details. In the kitchen they had everything needed- a lot of coffee, salt, olive oil. The check-in was very easy - the guy responsible Valerio was super nice and very helpful reachable by phone all the time. Our coffee was finished and Valerio and his colleague was so nice to bring more for us ( they didn’t have to at all).
This is the great apartment in the middle of old Palermo. It is spacious and stocked with all the necessary things, including washing machine, espresso machine and even espresso capsules. The host was extremely friendly, helpful and gracious. It was my best stay in Sicily and I really enjoyed it. The location is very convenient to everything. The only reason I didn't give the maximum points for location, I reserve those to the ones with the sea views.
The staff were amazing. They helped organize our taxis upon arrival and for day trips. Massimo and Alessio were very informative and gave tips of different places to visit throughout Palermo. They were extremely kind and welcoming! And the location was perfect !!! Close to the train station as well as in the city centre near all the action. The B&B also had breakfast every morning which was delicious and classic for Sicily.
- Best location in Palermo: Safe, quiet and clean;
- Amazing and lovely host. Helped us with lots of tips and information for our trip. Thank you, dear Eleonora!
- Excellent breakfast: homemade delicious and typical recipes, great variety of foods;
- Best cappuccino of Sicily;😊👌🏻
- Beautiful place with everything you need: shampoo, conditioner, hair dryer….
This B&B is highly recommended!!! Don’t look further
Located in Ballarò (downtown), next to one of the oldest street markets in Palermo, the most lively one and surely picturesque of Sicily. Nice room and bathroom, with the best breakfast in town (and the best I have tried in Sicily). And all thanks to its host, Mariella 🌞. She is a wonderful human being who makes you feel at home. I cannot describe anything else, just try it.
Great location in the center of Palermo's Historic Section. Lots of restaurants nearby. Best homemade breakfast we had while in Italy. The owners were extremely helpful with advice, directions and info on the history of Palermo, and helped us find parking just outside of the restricted area. Will happily stay in this hotel if we ever find ourselves in Palermo again.
Hard to think of something. Sicily is horrible. I have been in at least 50 or 60 countries in the world. This is only comparable with a poor 3rd world forgotten country. So sad.
Even my 5 star hotel bedroom.was smaller than my bathroom. And the whole hotel had a rancid smell. Can't they spend on some deep cleaning? Does all the money has to go to their pockets?
Considering this is my second time around on an extended stay to Sicily and having stayed at several properties, Valero was by far one of the best host I've encountered. Out of the many features to highlight, the thoughtfulness of having lockers for luggage storage (at no cost) was greatly appreciated. I look forward to returning multiple times over!
Good location, I mostly walked around Palermo from the hotel after taking a taxi there from the train. The bed was by far the best bed I slept on in Italy. The shower was fancy with many spouts. They also gave me a sheet of tourist recommendations and advised on what is in walking distance.
Modern and comfortable apartment right next to the Palermo Train + Bus Station. Very convenient for any train or bus travel to other parts of Sicily or to and from the airport. 10-15 minute walk to the main tourist sites and busy restaurant and nightlife areas of Palermo.
It was the best bed I had in Sicily!
Very comfortable mattress, good size room, friendly staff, very good breakfast, they even have Oat milk!
You have to ask it from the waiter, they have Soya too.
The airport bus station is right there
It is just on the bank of the sea, quiet area but close to the town (20min by bus) , clean and comfortable appartment, nice hosts.
The beach is much cleaner than the rest of Palermo.
It was not a luxury hotel but we loved it.
Thoughtfully curated boutique hotel in a great area of Palermo. Rooms are nice, modern, with the amenities you’d expect. Breakfast in the courtyard was wonderful each morning and the restaurant within it was terrific.
The house and gardens were beautiful and well looked after. Monica was a very attentive and helpful host. Breakfast was very good. Proximity to the airport and great for exploring Palermo and the west of Sicily.
The location is great! Service is good, room is tastefully decorated. It is the best we have stayed in Sicily. And we feel like we have been pampered and so far the rest of the hotels are not as nice.
The hotel is perfect for one-night-stays if you arrive at the airport and travel to another city in Sicily. You can explore the city of Palermo by foot and try to relax in the crowded pool.
We loved our stay here! It was a true boutique oasis in the heart of Palermo. The staff and owner were incredibly helpful and friendly , and the hotel stunning and comfortable!
This is a charming boutique hotel right in the centre of Palermo. It has a lovely central area and breakfast room and the staff were exceptionally helpful
