Fukuoka is a pleasant surprise, with lots of attractions and great dining within the city.A balanced mix of cultural and modern destinations . The city had a number of temples , museums, beautiful parks while boasting of modern attractions like the canal city fountain show , the E-Zo team lab, the Fukuoka tower viewing deck and seasonal display on its building facade, and the largest moving Gundam in Lalaport. Many shopping places too. Food choices are plentiful, from hakata ramen and traditional Japanese cuisine to international options like Italian, Mexican , American . Lastly, the many varieties of cherry blossoms and tulips in Ohori and maizuru parks made our visit even more memorable.

Nice city.
Nice city. I'm a bit surprise that it's not overcrowded like another big cities in Japan that I've been to. Might not be the best place for shopping but it's about right to me. It's more local Japan to me. I see very few English signs. There are some nice attractions but I wouldn't plan a week long trip with just Fukuoka. There are other cities and attractions in Kyushu that should also be in the plan. You don't really need a car in Fukuoka. It's well covered by public transport but for Kyushu in general it'll help considerably if you like to drive though.
If I'd plan again, I wouldn't drive the whole trip outside Fukuoka. I rather drive in some areas and travel between big cities with train. It make more sense and can cover more areas and attractions.

Loved Fukuoka, it's an underrated city.
Loved Fukuoka, it's an underrated city. As long as you're not looking for a city like Kyoto with lots of traditional Japan, you'll find it to be a lively city with lots to do! The yatai's are a great way to experience food in Fukuoka!

It's not as busy as Tokyo or Osaka but is not lacking in places of interest and dining options. It's very easy to get around just as in other cities in Japan. The underground stations in Gion and Tenjin were a sight in itself. The interiors are not like typical train stations. There were intricately designed iron grills in the ceiling and there were lots of merchandise and food to check out.
It was fun dining at a yatai stall. The owners were very friendly and one of them patiently explained to us the menu that did not have any English translation. The food was fresh and really tasty.
One diner at the yatai stall who is a local suggested a good ramen place. It's Ganso Akanoren Setchan Ramen in Tenjin. She said Ichiran is expensive and "locals do not go there". There was a short queue when we got there around 11:30am the next day. We just waited for about 10 minutes to get a table. We were not disappointed with the food at all; taste and price wise. When we left at 12:30pm, there were about 20 people in line.
It was unfortunate that the Fukuoka Castle Ruins was closed for some work to prepare the place for the Sakura Festival later this month so we did not see it. We visited the Kusida Shrine, Team Lab Forest, Sanrio Characters Dreaming attraction, Ohori Park, Canal City. We went on a day trip to Hiroshima to learn more about history and we came out more educated.
The hotel was clean, comfortable and quiet. It felt like a peaceful retreat. The room was quite spacious and well-designed. The system for requesting housekeeping to service the room is simple and easy to understand and worked seamlessly. The staff was outstanding and was able to answer our questions and assist us with securing a taxi to the airport despite our inability to speak Japanese. The hotel is close to the JR Hakata station as well as the Fukuoka Subway and there are many options for shopping and dining in the area.
Great value for money hotel opposite from the Canel City Hakata shopping mall which is massive. The hotel itself is exceptionally clean and comfortable and definitely exceeded expectations. Very centrally located in the Gionmachi area and about a short 7min walk from the main JR Hakata Station or Gion local train station if coming via Fukuoka airport.
The rooms were relatively spacious and very clean. Equipped with fridge and mini bar
Staff were all extremely nice as well. Would recommend
This location is close HAKATA Station.
Near the hotel has a lot of conbini restaurant and department store.
Hotel is most value for traveller.
Cheap and clean , Staff know in English language.
Can leave your luggage if you check out and travel around then get it up in this day.
And can leave your luggage if you check out and check in again when you travel another city and get back to same hotel.
I like the location of the hotel, it is walking distance from hakata or tenjin station (approx 15-20 min walk to both destinations). I also like the onsen in the hotel, especially that they offer two kinds of onsen, one indoor and one outdoor. Size of room may be small, but good enough for Japan standard where you could still have a small walkway for a little of yoga stretching and work out.
The hotel is in an excellent location close to the subway station and a short walk from the main Hakata station. Also close to the main areas of Fukuoka. The room was modern, clean and spacious for Japan, including a full wardrobe which was nice. The bathroom was excellent despite the usual Japan style shower/bath in a plastic box. Comfy bed, and overall great value for money.
Great location near the subway. Fantastic bar down stairs, breakfast was included for guests, staff were genuinely helpful and did their best to assist me with my enquiries.
Also loved the artwork throughout the hotel and music downstairs in the lobby
I would happily recommend the Lively and will stay there again if I visit Fukuoka in future.
Absolutely bonkers view of Fukuoka, with a great location that's easy to get to from Hakata station. Beds were incredibly comfy, air conditioning with a spacious room and bathroom, just an all around amazing hotel. A touch pricier than other possible hotels,, but easily well worth the price point. Highly recommended!
This was a beautiful hotel and the staff was very accommodating. We loved that it is located right outside of Hakata Station making it very easy to get to and from the airport and other sites in Fukuoka. There was also a lot of food options nearby at Hakata Station. The price was also reasonable.
One of the best business hotel in Fukuoka with clean, comfortable and above average size rooms. Check in was fast and easy. Hotel staff are friendly and welcoming. It is conveniently located, a short walk from Hakata Station. Will definitely stay there again when we are in Fukuoka.
All good, location is next to the bus station to airport and next to Hakata Station which 5 mis walking distance.
Thear are 7-11 and Family mart around the Hotel.
Car rental is next corner with 5 mins walking distance.
there is parking lot at the hotel with 1500 Yen.
The hotel is in a great location, near Hakata rail and bis stations and not far from Fukuoka airport. The location is close to many of Fukuoka city's main attractions. The hotel staff are pleasant and helpful and having a spa facility is a nice bonus.
Staff were super friendly the hotel was easily accessed from JR Hakata the room was generous by Japan standards very clean. We did not participate in the breakfast option personal choice but it was available. Easy walking distance to canal city
I like the room because it is clean and comfortable. Nice location for commuting to Hakata and Tenjin station including Fukuoka International Airport Also there are many convenience stores situated not far from the hotel. I can cook sometime.
This was my second stay at the Oriental Hotel Fukuoka Hakata Station and the best thing about it is its location to the train station and the cleanliness of the rooms. The bed was quite comfortable and the breakfast buffet was excellent.
Great hotel base in Fukuoka, clean & comfort, great staff, complimentary 2 mineral water each day, laundry, ice and vending machines provided. Just a bit walk 3 blocks from Hakata station, anyway great exercise everyday.
The location is the best.
Next to a metro station which can take you to the airport in 3 minutes and to the rest of the city’s attractions.
The room was small but clean and well designed.
Big hotel with fully functions. Room space is too big, you can't find this big room easily in Japan. You can go shopping easily in both Tenjin and Canal city areas.
