It's just as described - a small private room with shared toilets (close by in my case) and downstairs is the small onsen with showers. There was never anyone else there at the same time as me. The onsen (men and women separate) itself is small but relaxing - one small outdoor wooden tub an an indoor pool that is bigger. The TV in the room was modern and the aircon worked well. The mattress was softer than I expected though. I think there's normal seating in the communal area, I've never used it though. Owners and staff are very kind and polite. Very good location and great value for money.

Please receive a receipt from the taxi driver and submit it to Iwatakan. Free on-site parking is provided. Guests sleep in traditional style, in futon bedding atop a tatami (woven-straw) floor. Each room is air-conditioned and includes a TV. Toilets are shared, and guests bathe at the hot-spring baths. You can use one of the free-use bicycles to explore Takayama, or check your email at the free-use internet PC. Minshuku Iwatakan Inn is a 15-minute walk from Yatai Kaikan, which exhibits elaborate, ancient festival floats. The Miyagawa Asaichi Morning Market is a 10-minute walk away. Old Town Takayama is about a 15-minute walk away.
