    We highly recommend a visit.

We highly recommend a visit. The city is beautiful and provides a respite from the larger cities. The sound of the river seems to permeate the city. The flowering of cherry trees is magnificent during theSpring Festival. Some beautiful shrines and Edo period buildings, including a museum that provides an opportunity to walk through the living quarters and government administrative buildings and identifies the day to day functioning of a local government officials. There is a wonderful, ‘tiny’ bar near the Retro Museum that is a place to hang out and meet other travelers and converse with the owner. His creative cocktails are really delicious. Loved the outside and upstairs seating as well. This city knows how to welcome its guests with benches and a customer friendly attitude. Wonderful experience.

It is such a pretty picturesque city., feel of country life. A nice change to the hustle and bustle of city life. We went to the Miyagawa morning market and found great hand crafted items special to Takayama. We had the best yakiniku meal thus far on this trip. Wagyu beef was so delicious. People were so friendly and helpful despite the language barrier. We plan on going again next trip and stay longer than the day planned, a good 2.5 days would be wonderful for next time.

Takayama is a beautiful town. It has a well preserved old district with historic buildings. We visited during spring and took a day trip to the ropeway. It would look amazing during winter. The people were super friendly & enjoyed tourists company.

The walk up to the castle ruins and Hida no Sato were two favorites, but there was so much to see and do while relaxing that I’d encourage people to take it easy and not try to hit everything. Spend time in your ryokan or hotel stay, and relax.

Everything is within walking distance, there are numerous beautiful temples at the edge of the old town, lots of interesting delicious food - Hida beef the highlight - sushi, on skewers and in buns, mitarashi dango (savoury version in Takayama), warabimochi. Also, make a reservation in advance if you want to eat out and places close early here so be prepared (think it was 8pm) or you’ll find yourself getting dinner at Family Mart which was actually surprisingly good.

We stayed in a traditional ryokan room. If more than 2 nights I probably would opt for a full bed. It's a big hotel, but peaceful and quiet. The in house public onsen was magnificent. The shower room in the room itself is small, more comfortable to have a shower before the onsen. Facilities are great. Breakfast Buffet choices are similar every day which is fine. Good selection. Walking distance from train station but also has a shuttle service which is convenient. Would stay again.

quiet position, very near to the folk village. Great atmosphere. Host was super nice and helpful and spoke English (not a given thing in Japan). Room was BIG and in true Japanese style, even with a tokonoma. Lots of amenities provided (including Yumakata and jackets). dinner and sake (not included) were delicious. Private onsen was big and clean. Free bus for the station in the morning was very nice. Felt like a VERY good deal for the price, compared to the other ryokans in Takayama.

The best hotel we stayed in Japan (and all hotels in Japan are amazing!) Very clean, comfortable, quiet, veryyy nice outside onsen. The staff is lovely. The breakfast was good as well, had various selections (mostly Japanese food). The shuttle bus is very handy, the hotel is placed in a quiet place, surrounded by trees, near a river (amazing!) The price was very good! We will definitely stay here again, made our Takayama stay memorable!

Very old beautiful traditional Japanese Ryokan. You can really feel the hospitality from the moment you enter untill the moment you checkout. The included dinner was something I honestly was a little scared of (not knowing what you will eat sometimes is challenging) but they exceeded all my expectations. Everything they gave me to eat was absolutely AMAZING. i regret not having asked the recipe for certain dishes.

This traditional hotel (Ryokan) is a hidden gem among the snowy mountains of the prefecture. We had our private Onsen in the room, which was traditional Japanese style, and it was so peaceful and relaxing that we simply could not ask for more. We had the Hida beef meal course and in was delicious, prepared in detail and with love. The stuff was just amazing and friendly.

The ryokan is perfect for a Japanese experience. It is a 3 min walk from the station. The staff is friendly and can speak english. They let us choose between three different types of breakfast and explained everything perfectly during check in. The private onsen is indoor and good equipped (extra charge). Fantastic for a ryokan experience with onsen!

What a great hotel for a lovely break in Takayama ; far from the busy, overcrowded cities. The big suite is perfect for a romantic escapade, with a view on the city & the mountains, which is gorgeous at sunset. The bathtub was amazing, it was so relaxing! And we had a balcony to enjoy our even more. I highly recommend.
