The district I stayed in reminded me of Kerala/India. I had great walks and have seen so many interesting places besides Dutch Fort. I ate at Seagalle Hotel & Restaurant with good food, very nice staff and low prices (milk tea: 250 Rs, veg. Noodles: 650 Rs).

Coming from a young Country (New Zealand circa 1840), but aware of Sri Lanka's varietal Dutch, Portuguese, British, Colonial Histories, I found the Buildings left behind by the long ago passing presence of these Nations, amongst the reality of present day life within the confines of the Galle Fort, an alluring, appealing and enticing cocktail of fortuitous personal experience, and would encourage all who might be so disposed and contemplating a visit, to definitely list Galle as a Priority, Not to be Missed...

I visited Galle for the Literary Festival and not as a normal tourist so it would be unfair to judge it as a tourist destination. However it is a historical town with beautiful colonial architecture, enchanting hotels and a lively atmosphere and with many bars, restaurants and plenty of shops. Probably one of the unique places on the island.

Our room was not very big but very nice. Wonderful bed and pillows. The bathroom was by far the nicest we've had in Sri Lanka. Our stay here was especially enjoyable due to the kindness and friendliness of Malika who is a perfect and very professional host.

Breakfast was delicious: a big plate of fresh fruit, eggs, chicken sausage and toast. They also have other breakfast options as well. Before we left I enjoyed my tea on our private patio. This is a little oasis in the middle of Fort Galle and an excellent value.

Rooms are very large and very well decorated, especially the bathroom, which is just amazing. It is super comfortable and very clean. The swimming pool is great.
