Merzouga is a small village located in southeastern Morocco, known for its stunning sand dunes and as a gateway to the Sahara Desert. It is a popular tourist destination for those looking to experience the beauty and mystique of the desert.
One of the main attractions in Merzouga is the expansive Erg Chebbi dunes, where visitors can partake in activities such as camel trekking, sandboarding, and camping under the stars. Watching the sunrise or sunset over the dunes is a breathtaking experience that many visitors cherish.
The village itself offers a glimpse into traditional Berber culture, with its mud-brick buildings and friendly locals. Visitors can explore the village on foot, interact with the residents, and sample local cuisine in the various restaurants and cafes.
Merzouga is also a popular starting point for longer desert excursions, where visitors can trek deep into the Sahara on camelback or in 4x4 vehicles, staying in traditional desert camps along the way. These excursions offer a more immersive experience of the desert landscape and its nomadic way of life.
Overall, Merzouga is a magical destination that offers a unique blend of adventure, natural beauty, and cultural experiences for travelers seeking a memorable desert escapade in Morocco.

We did the one night tour with the camel treck, staying in the luxury camp, and it was amazing. Everything was perfectly organised, Hassan was very helpful and every step of the tour was a pleasure, and the people involved were nice and accommodating. We also had a room for us to wait before the tour start and afterwards when we came back. Booking was quick and simple and everything went smoothly. Highly recommended

We did eat at Kasba Planet Sahara, Food was great, local, well prepared by the lady cook, just a bit too big portions :):):) Excellent!
Outdoor meal was in the desert - grill - local type - wow, we all enjoyed!
Additionally, was easy to walk arround and to have a drink in some local caffee shops - very nice.
Avoid ..!? to short stay to avoid anything, just add few more days.

Merzouga is a desert town principally set up to offer a desert experience and trips into the Sahara. There are limited food and 'tourist' shops and a number of restauarants (although we didn't use these). Our hosts at Auberge Les Roches catered for all our needs and desert experience.

The highlight of my stay was definitely the camel ride into the desert. The views were breathtaking and the experience was one I'll never forget. The hotel also arranged for a delicious dinner under the stars, which was the perfect end to a perfect day.
We really loved our stay at sahara Merzouga Sahara luxury camp. We went there by camel, lovely ride during the afternoon. We were warmly welcomed in the camp. The tents were warm due to the heating in the tent. We stayed two nights what i really recommend to fully enjoy the desert experience. We did a quad ride, booked via the camp (the quads come to the camp where you start) and sandboarding (boards available for free in the camp).
Delicious food, lovely lunch spot on top of a dune.
Would 100% recommend this luxury desert camp
this was for sure one of the best experiences we had in Morocco. All the staff was 5*.
- we left the car in a free and safe park
- we had a 2 hours camel ride at sunset which was magical ( not included in the price of the room but totally worth it)
- The food and the room was very nice
- We got to sing and dance to Berber songs and we talked with Mohammed for like 2 hours ( there are a lot of Mohammed’s here) 😁. He was incredible and answered at all of our questions about the Berber culture, Merzouga, the desert , etc
Everything was perfect, we felt like home, surrounded by the desert and our new Berber family.
Addi was taking care of us and was very helpful with every request we had.
Wi-fi was (most of the time) good enough for video calls, but Maroc Telecom has 4G coverage in that area, so we were able to stay online quite comfortably.
Breakfasts and dinners were huge!
We spent 6 nights here, and will come back again for at least month, Inshallah ❤️
Best experience in Morocco so far.
Tanmert!
We had an amazing stay at authentic Desert Luxury camp, we rode out on camels at sunset, then ate a delicious four course meal. Our tent was really plush and the staff took great care of us. In the morning we got up to watch the sunrise then had a massive breakfast before showering and heading back to Merzouga by jeep. The trip was lovely, the camp is very well equipped and not too hot at night even in Mars Definitely try the camels! I highly recommend 1000%
Probably the prettiest room we stayed in Morocco. Property well maintained, clean and impeccably decorated, including the outdoor dining space. Dining - both breakfast and dinner were outstanding. The location is a short walk to the dune for sunset. I also booked a camel ride ( you could probably do ATV too) by simply walking a short ways to where the camels are kept. parking at the hotel is shaded. I highly recommend staying here.
We stayed with my little family at Riad Les Roches Marzouga, it has a great location on the edge of the desert, good facilities and the pool was very welcoming during the heat of the day. The owners were also very helpful - we went on a night excursion to the hotel's desert camp which was a nice trip - there was dancing, singing, Berber music and we also enjoyed the atmosphere and stargazing which we enjoyed very much.
Riad Jouba is a true gem in Merzouga. While maintaining all the traditions of Morocco, they still offered all the comforts of a luxury hotel. Each room was a different theme which makes me want to return just to have a new experience. The staff were welcoming, providing everything I needed and more. I’ve traveled Morocco extensively and Riad Jouba is my favorite. Wonderful dinner and breakfast. Thank you Riad Jouba!
The Desert camp trip was excellent. We had a very good time and for all the amazing things we did in Merzouga I think the price was very good. The Hotel is very spacious with lovely seating outside where you can have dinner, breakfast or lunch. We had to change rooms several times during our stay due to electricity issues. But the manager was very helpful and immediately gave us a different room with no problems.
Hassan was amazing. As usual we booked our trip to the Sahara desert at short notice. Once we booked Dar Lola and made contact with Hassan, he was very calm and arranged every thing else for us. What a star he was. My whole family had a great time and loved our desert experience In Merzouga!
The hotel had a real family and homely feel to it, and it is right next to the dunes, which was great!
First time for me in the desert with my family and it was a magical experience. We arrived at the Dar Aytma and it was Ali who took care of us from start to finish, offering us a tour of the city and the main market of Merzouga. The next day we spent the night in the desert camp , the comfort, the view is just magical. Thank you for everything, it’s a trip I will never forget.
Exceptional doesn't begin to describe our time at this luxury camp in Merzouga. The attention to detail in the camp's design, from the plush furnishings to the gourmet dining under the stars, exceeded our expectations. The warmth of the staff and their dedication to creating a personalized experience made this stay a highlight of our journey through Morocco."
The hotel is located in the desert and the view is amazing! The tents are very beautiful and had everything we needed. The staff was so kind and friendly! The food (breakfast and dinner) was the best we had in our whole stay in Morocco, very tasty and with a big variety! In the night they provided traditional music and dance by the fire!
Desert camp erg chebbi was our camp in Merzouga desert, the desert start in front of the tent, the dinner and the breakfast were the best we had in Morocco.
The camel ride into the dunes for sunset was great experience.
And all team of the camp were nice people, the camp was comfortable!
Thank you for everything.
Azawad Luxury Desert Camp is an wonderful desert experience. The camp is well run by an efficient staff, the tents are comfortable, and the food is great. The camel ride to the camp was amazing, and they planned the route to maximize privacy and beauty. We can highly recommend this camp and its excellent staff.
The room was very clean, quiet and cozy. Beautiful view on Erg-Chebbi desert from the terrace. Big and delicious breakfast. Very kind and hospitable hotel owners helped us to organize activities at exact time at the desert which was convinient for us at this short stay in Merzouga.
This was our first experience in a desert and it was amazing. In Morocco the are a lot of tour operator that can bring you into Erg Chebbi (merzouga) or Zagora. Zagora is not like Merzouga! If you want to find high san dunes (up to 150 mt) choose Merzouga
we stay a night in the camp and picked up with 4x4 by Ahmed from their hotel in Merzouga village passing all the dunes and staff in the camp were great and served us all what we needed .
highly recommended for a real desert experience
We took the bus from Fes to Merzouga to get to the Hotel. We arrived at 6 in the morning. Ali was already there waiting for us to make sure we could get a couple hours of sleep before our trip in the desert.
Excellent dinner, the best one in Morocco. The camp itself do not need any presentation. Pictures and services are real..really luxury stay in the middle of desert.
