If you are going to Guanajuato to see the Historical Center...
If you are going to Guanajuato to see the Historical Center and be near restaurants and shops, find a place close to the center. Especially if you are older or have mobility issues. There are many steps and hills to get almost anywhere.

We loved Guanajuato and would go back sometime.
We loved Guanajuato and would go back sometime. We were only there two nights as a quick stop on our drive home to the US. It's an amazing city with the mining history and tunnels carved in the mountain. The architecture in the historic center is gorgeous, many buildings are from the 1700 and 1800s. We loved climbing the hill to the statue for the view as well as just wandering and exploring. There are all kinds of restaurants and street food, music in the streets every night and lots of shops of souvenirs. We recommend spending several days here.

Small, wonderful, kaleidoscopic, walkable, and friendly city to visit and explore. Great range of activities available: art and architecture, museums and music venues and food options (from street food on up) and hiking in the surrounding hills. Speaking Spanish helps, even if at a rudimentary level like mine. Guanajuato is an easy to just be. And if you forget the sunscreen ... farmacias to the rescue! Enjoy your visit.

It is a beautiful city with lots to explore.
It is a beautiful city with lots to explore. It is more historic and lots of walking but we enjoyed. My kids enjoyed it even with it not being a lot of attractions geared towards children. Lots of street vendors and delicious foods.

The people were very friendly.
The people were very friendly. A lot of walking goes on with very little other transportation. There are definitely a huge number of people walking the street that usually come up from the tunnels. The tunnels being the major source of entrance into the city. The parks are usually full of people walking around and in the evenings they have lots of songs and and other activities.
Martin is an exceptional owner. He is clearly very passionate about his hotel and looking after his guests. He even took us into the centre of town and pointed some good places to eat etc... On the first day, he upgraded us to a larger room for a good rate and the balcony made such a difference. The hotel and rooms are very well kept and clean. There is a lot of space for clothes etc.
If you are staying in Guanajuato and want a nice and relaxed hotel to stay, then I could definitely recommend staying here.
The room has everything you need, like the kitchenette with lots of kitchenware, the very comfortable bed, the terrace with table and chairs.
It is quite close to the central area and there are Oxxo and small shops nearby so it’s very convenient.
The host Sra. Lupita was one of the nicest host I’ve ever experienced. Thanks to her, made my stay in Guanajuato one of the best memories traveling Mexico. She literally can help you if you are in need.
Thank you so much on everything!
I love that this hotel is in a neighborhood just uphill from Plaza Baratillo. Paulina is a lovely person and a fabulous hostess. Casa Azul is a rambling old house with loads of character, and lots of stairs. I'd begin each day on the roof terrace with coffee, listening to the roosters and church bells, and enjoying the incredible views over the city!
The location could not be better. The hotel is located on the main plaza where almost everything happens. The real highlight, however, is the staff. They were all friendly and extremely helpful, especially the young woman who supervises the reservations in 1850 and their sister hotel Sterling. My wife and I highly recommend Boutique Hotel 1850.
Perfect location! Right in centro, walk to everything within a few minutes. The hotel itself was absolutely beautiful, impeccably clean. Every staff member greeted us with a smile and a hello. They were available for anything we needed. (Tip: If you don’t speak Spanish, download Google Translate!)
Beautiful property. The breakfasts were outstanding - every day different and so good and filling and healthy. The doña de la casa and her staff are wonderful people and helpful with each and every matter. She’s also super knowledgeable about all of Mexico and fun to practice Spanish with.
I particularly liked that this hotel is unlike any other: distinctive decoration, distribution & shape of rooms, access to two rooftops with gorgeous views over Guanajuato… The hotel was relatively quiet, despite being a 3min-walk away from Jardin del Union.
The 1850 is located on the main square where all of the life of the city is happening! It is central to everything that a visitor might want to see. The hotel itself is modern, well furnished and comfortable. The staff is cheerful and very accommodating.
There’s parking at the hotel, which is quite difficult to find in Guanajuato. All the decorations are just incredible! I loved the terrace, and you can see almost the whole town from up there. At night the stars are magical.
Little nice boutique hotel with a very unique design in every room. It was clean; the owner is very nice, you can use the kitchen and dining room. It’s walking distance from downtown Guanajuato, a very nice walk and safe.
The host was lovely, great communication ahead and during the stay. The bed is easily the most comfy we had in our month in Mexico and the room is super cute. We were able to leave bags on check out day.
Accommodation is close to city center. Small but super comfortable room, they even set up a little tea place with kettle, glasses, mugs, few packets of tea and coffee (which is rare in Mexico).
Amazing place! This will be my top 10 in the world I have been. Atmosphere, host, interior, light games in the room. Comfortable bed, history and details. My top 1 in Mexico.
